Well, let's talk about it and speak to each other about it. We all understand the concept of venue fees and we all understand its contribution usually goes into the thought of providing and expanding the scene. However, it seems as from what I've been reading, many Dustloop people just bail after the tournament, not because they want to, but because they're forced to. If they're paying for the venue fee as a service, but do not get the luxury of using the venue freely, as they paid for as a service, then I can understand why the value of paying the venue fee is belittled: they just believe the payment and service in exchange is not fair to standards. With that being said, if one cannot get permitted space and service they paid for and are only paying the venue fee for just the tournament, maybe you should waive the venue fee for them and just allow them to play the tournament and just pay the tournament fee. I understand both create the incentive to win, but, in all honesty, you should really only be betting real cash in a real fighting game, where you actually hate/fight each other and view money as the real incentive, like Mario Party 1-5 and try to make your bet back from that. Cough-John-cough... On another topic, I am going to assume it's the same people who play in the tournament at TGZ that migrate over to UAT, plus maybe couple random people outside the Dustloop community. The Dustloop community is already familiar with each other, so I really don't know if adding cash and costs has tremendous meaning. I am pretty sure the Dustloop community still goes out for food with each other still, so everybody putting in $5-$10 in a pot just to feed someone else's mouth might not really fly well with some people in this community. Zing! Overall, for the argument that it's an incentive to get better, if you're not already implementing that in casuals, what are you even doing? You should constantly be trying to improve yourself, not using cash as the only incentive or using the fact it's "casuals" as a scapegoat for your laziness. Note: I don't go to TGZ or UAT, so this is based all from what I've thread in this thread and heard from Facebook and in person.
