Uhm, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OTEC54vopAE&list=UUjfSTUTiCkmmlI7htOp8sVg&index=2&feature=plcp -
Most burst baiting comes from knowing your opponent, player specificity. If you play against people enough, you wouldn't need to waste 50 heat trying to bait a burst, you could just use DS, 2C or 5C..or any other JC moves. You'll also learn thier bursting habbits. Don't try too hard to bait a burst though, otherwise you'll find yourself dropping combos for no reason, if you get too predictable. ^ This. I also don't see it. His damage output is moderate. Maybe it's because he can deal moderate damage, so often, in any situation? To be honest, most of you are right when you say it's just salt, but it's a combination of bad match-ups too, that give people a reason to complain about ragna. I mean, do you ever see a valkenhayn or mu player ever complaining about ragna? no. (Well maybe sometimes, but the main complaints come from people that are salty about bad match ups involving ragna).

I'm having the EXACT same problem to be honest. From what i have been testing so far, there seems to be no safe way to approach Valk..certainly not by air with J.C, that's a no-no. I see a lot of people using HF to approach him when he's in wolf..although that may be a good thing sometimes, as KayEff said, people can adapt to that easily. That also doesn't get rid of the problem of an airbourne Valk. My 6A got beaten clean by Wolf cannon MANY MANY times. Although i HATE to say this..i don't think there is any safe consistant way to approach Valk. The only thing i can think of doing is trying to out poke his air game with J.D/J.A. Allowing Valk to approach you is also a bad thing..because of his guessing game mix-up =( You could try to keep distance from Valk so that they waste wolf meter on jump ins/approaching e.t.c...block mix up (Which is highly unlikely) then punish accordingly. Other than that, playing footsies, staying on the ground and patiently running in is probably your best bet.

First time playing EX, still need to get the game.. But anyway, i would like you guys to comment on my gameplay etc. A lot of my combos weren't working..figured it was because of some being character specific? Especially those HF > 22C combos..can't seem to pull those off for some reason. Any tips? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DjwK1vjz9aw&list=UUn8Co62H8G_V4r51XrzgkRw&index=9&feature=plcp (Me with ragna @start) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LmoZbtJHSTY&feature=related (Me playing Jin @start, and me playing ragna against my bro @ 23:00) Any comments on how i should play against Valk? Valk has always been a problem to me since CS. Just don't know how to fight against his superior mix up. Also it's like they have added extra gravity to ragna, he feels really heavy and stiff from the jump of CS2 to EX. Anyway i hope you guys enjoy. -

Sorry, i like watching videos of people's ragnas, so i'll always comment in this thread. =3 Your pressure is looking much better than before, so keep that up. One thing i wanted to point out is that D inferno divider cross-up he landed on you in the corner. Most ragna players will look to fish that out, if they just do 3C into 22C without the cross under..why? Because that leaves them in an unfavourable position..with their back to the wall. Plus the P1 of the DID is 100...so... So just look out for that, especialy if they have heat. get ready to block it on reaction. Not even going to lie, i purposely don't do the Cross under JUST so that i can do that cross over too. Be sure to look out for it. The random GH and BE was..uh..idk what to say, just be ready to rapid that if you do persist to throw them out randomly. But you shouldn't be doing that anyway. Also i think you could use a bit more MEAT in your combos. Try to find ways of optimising your combos for maximal damage. That is what ragna is all about, after all. Remember that those 22C --> Dash 5A combos work against Ragna. On a side note, am i the only one that LOVES the ragna vs ragna match up? -

I always did wanna see your Ragna, Mash. =) There isn't really much to say after watching that, but one thing i could suggest is that you instant block more. You made some pretty nice punishes on tsubaki, for throwing out drives, But i reckon you'd be able to get better punishes with like 5B (maybe), instead of 2A, now that tsubaki's Drives have become disgustingly unsafe on block. Other than that solid Ragna man! -

Hmm..that is one good Jin..i thought that was me playing at first because of the colour and the combos..anyway.. Ok what i would say about this is that, you tend to start most of your blockstrings with 5B..which is quite bad for starting pressure. You have more options if you start with 2A or 5A, because you can then go to implement things like frame traps, e.t.c. What i've noticed is that with your pressure, one just has to "Block low and just wait for 6B and react to it, either by dp'ing which is unlikely, or block high." I think you could add more options when you are pressuring, like going for throws/tick throws, GH, jump cancels etc. Because one could just literally sit there blocking low all day, and just block all your 6B's. (6B is very easy to block btw). So just try to mix it up a bit. Try 2A, 5A throw. Once you've conditioned your opponent to try to break the throw after your 5A, throw out a 2C instead of a throw (2A, 5A, 2C), so you can get a fatal counter. Just one of many things you can do. Also your anti-air combo goes like this: 6A, 5B, 5D(2), Dash 5B, 5D(1), DS, Dash 5C, HJC, J.C, J.D, DID(2) into axe kick Damage: 2872 Heat Gain: 34 Instead you could do: 6A, 5C, 5D(2), Dash 5B, 5D(1), DS, Dash 5C, HJC, J.C, J.D, DID(2) into axe kick Damage: 3016 Heat Gain: 35 You get slightly more heat and better damage. Overall nice stuff man. So i saw that reset @ 0:47.. and i was i like.. ._. Then i saw the reset again @ 4:41 Then i was like.. -

^ Pretty much. I won't comment on the random rapid because it happens to everyone, especially online. Want i would say is that you may be pressuring Haku-men a bit too much? You only got hit by a counter twice, but better haku-men players will punish you even harder and more frequently, because there were quite a lot of flaws in your pressure..like the 6D, JD, 2B. The JD was not delayed..plus haku-men instant blocked the JD. @0:41 safest way is to just do a delayed JD into 5A. Also after your 2C..you did DS, then into 5B..which you got punished for. @ 1:09 1. Sometimes it's just best to wait after 2C..especially against Hakumen 2. Sometimes it's just best to wait after DS, just to see what your opponent will do. That's where conditioning plays a role. Also if anything, you can just rapid the DS into high low mix-up. Note: You can cancel a blocked 6C into Deadspike, if you TK the Deadspike. Just incase you didn't know. I did like how you were making use of slow starter moves like 6D and 6B on his wake-up though. Nice ragna man. -
Those were some great matches. That Ragna has really good hit confirm. To be honest, that time out into tager victory was kinda expected. The burst was even more so.

I think a lot of people forget this. I myself forget sometimes too. These days it's difficult to get someone to BLOCK 5A whilst pressuring, because most people have adapted to constantly blocking low, and just reacting to overheads. -

I knew i got it from somewhere. Nice video Mash. Ok maybe doing it after a 2A starter is not the best of ideas. I usually do it after a J.A starter, or something with moderately high P1. As previously mentioned, 6A into cross up ID is pretty predictable. Also if you're going to go for that, i'd rather spend the heat on a D ID rather than a C ID. -

I kind of know what you mean Seo, there are times that i feel as if i'm not improving, or my ragna is becoming stale..i guess that's why we are all here as a community, to help each other. Well, along with what Tong mentioned, i noticed just a few other things, nothing major though. For the combo you started at 1:24, instead of following up the Berial edge with 5C, you could have used TK gauntlet hades > 5B > 5D (1) > DS > C ID, then into usual 22C Pickup or HF. This would have been more favourable than ending the combo in axe kick, and gives you better oki potential. You follwed up Berial edge again with 5C at 1:55, that could have been another TK GH. Too bad i don't have a video of me doing this saved, so can show you. But basically, if your opponent gets lunged into the corner with Berial edge, but you are still quite far from them, use TK GH. When mid-screen, sometimes i like to go for oki. You can hit-confirm into 3C, then jump cancel. For opponents that tech immediately, you can land then hit with 2B, 6B, or even air dash into JC > JD. It's your call. You can probably even Barrier block to bait reversals. If they don't tech immediately, just go for a 2B reset. Also, this is player specific. That particular guy you played, i've noticed, likes to jump around lot whilst you're pressuring. A 2C > 6C gattling will sort that out. Also, if i'm not mistaken, i think you tried to go for 5B > 6A > Instant air dash > cross over D ID? Well, most people have noticed that anything ragna does after 6A is unsafe (especially my bro Kiba) or have just gotten used to attacking Ragna after 6A so i'm not surprised you got poked out of it. Try replacing 6A with 3C, might do you a whole lot of good because people see 6A too much If you really want that D ID starter, with it's good P1 of 100, try going for something like this: @ 0:40 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8-EpFV8BDFU&feature=feedu_more With that comes conditioning your opponent to neutral tech quickly though. Also it's quite hard to master at first. If you end up dashing past them whilst doing J.D (Because that sometimes comes out whilst i do it), don't worry, as it puts you in a good position anyway, because they'd still be in the corner. Also if they back roll when you dash back, you can catch them with J.C FORCING them to block on their wake up..you can then continue pressure, putting them on the defensive. Also try IBing more, would get you better punishes. Dat rage burst at 2:19. lol. Overall nice ragna man, i always loved playing you. -

3C > BK: If they Emergency tech, Use DbD If they don't tech, use 22C. Could it be this one... Never thought of using 5A as an anti-air. Thank you for the help though, much appreciated. -

Yeah everyone was saying that alot, i guess it just didn't cross my mind at the time. Was getting angry by the amount of Platinum BS i was getting hit by. I thought about this one. I wasn't too sure if that would take out all her health. Alternatively, i guess i could have done 3C > CS, then rapid 5D > 22C if need be..but sometimes i mess up the 3C > CS. DBlanks was going to do 3C > Bubble. I instant blocked the 3C and punished the bubble attempt with 5B...it was on purpose. If she doesn't cancel 3C into bubble, you may have to Dash and do 5B, depending on how far she is using 3C from. Hmm..i always did have problems fighting Haku-men. I find it really difficult to approach him, which is why i do empty jumps to try and Bait drives. I have to say that i was air-bourne a bit too much actually. Don't start pressure with 5B all the time? This could be why i always feel as if my blockstrings are dull/the same, no matter what comes after it. Thanks for that one! My reasoning for using BK outside combos are for specific scenarios: 1. Will do it on someones wake-up or mine, just to see what my opponents is going to do, and use the BK invincibility as a kind of option select..and punish accordingly 2. IB > into BK. did that against hakumen only because i thought he was going to follow up on some attacks. I do find myself wasting heat due to avaliable bursts that the opponent has, and just wasting health in general. This is advice i need to heed. Ohh. 2? really? 6A and what else? Thanks to you guys for the responses. -

Hey all. Quite new around here, so i'm still quite new to this. Well, i have been Using Ragna for a REALLY long time now, since CT actually, so i'm quite familiar with him. I already know that i'm decent with him, but i feel that there is much more i could learn. I feel as though i've hit a roof with Ragna, and the more i research, the more i realise how basic my ragna is. I was wondering if anyone had any tips for improving my Ragna? I would really appreciate it if i could have people comment on how i play with him and what i could be doing. The first video is against a Hakumen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tzvoDDlLb-s&feature=channel_video_title The second is against Platinum: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YNbWi1kb1Pc&NR=1 And the last is against Another Ragna: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5ptF46bEYo&feature=related Overall, what i can say is that there are a few 5C's that were meant to be ID's, which cost me some matches. So, any thing you guys can reccomend? also enjoy the match videos =)
