Allow me to clear up this misunderstanding. As Spirit said earlier, at the last NCI all games were streamed (Melty Top 4, GG/BB Top 8, and various games in between) and archived. Since the PS3 is capable of using the older PS2 cable, it's possible just to switch the cables from one system to another to switch games. At the last NCI I had planned to switch between each game in order to get as many high-profile matches in as possible to make the stream more fun to watch. Unfortunately, due to how the brackets were spread out according to Aginor, the majority of those matches for BB were in the top 8 - which is why there weren't any pre-top 8 matches on stream. The only issues that arose from playing BB on the tube TV we had were: 1) "It hurts my eyes." and 2) If, by any chance, there was any lag on the HDTV they were originally using, they had become used to it already. So taking that chance in the top 8 matches was somewhat of a concern. However, we remedied this by just running a video cable to the HDTV as well so they could just pick whichever TV they liked. tl;dr: We did exactly the opposite of what I just quoted at the last NCI. Just think about it logically using crunchyroll as an example. They offer simulcasted (or really, really quick afaik) subbed anime. Piracy will always be a factor so long as media is offered digitally. But what about the viewers who a) are too lazy to torrent b) prefer streams because torrents are too slow c) don't have the space d) don't want to wait for fansubs. This small portion of the viewership is being cut into deeply by streaming sites like the ones you promote. Admittedly torrents aren't much better, but I'd still put them a step above random people making free money off of streaming sites while at the same time reducing the userbase of proper streaming sites even further. implying you can always saturate your connection from a dedicated ftp server without doing exactly what BT does and split files into parts to facilitate multiple connection downloads implying that download speed isn't directly affected by how fast/much you upload The first part is a blanket statement you made seemingly out of spite. Then you go on to try tie in the negative aspects of private trackers into public trackers when, in fact, it works the exact opposite way in that seedboxes provide parts at an accelerated rate which increases availability and thus overall distribution effectiveness and download speeds. Only if you either a) have shit internet or b) are torrenting something that should probably not be torrenting eg: random old videos on a poorly seeded torrent. So, in a public bit torrent setting, you're saying that the reason why torrents are slow is because they have seedboxes on them? You're also implying that, because something has the capacity for all varieties of low-end computers, that it's somehow designed solely around that. FTP vs. BT in (bandwidth) efficiency is really not even an arguable subject. Take for example a release that has 5000 initial downloaders. On a standard seedbox with a 100mbit connection you can upload at most at 12.5MB/s. Split among 5000 people all downloading from the same FTP you will get about 2.5KB/s if my math is correct. Efficient my ass. Maybe if you had 10 initial leechers and you all took turns and assuming the server doesn't just die from being hammered by that amount of connections.
