  1. For more information about getting around UCI, here is an excerpt from http://forums.shoryuken.com/discussion/133137/university-of-california-irvine-tuesday-night-casuals: The following link contains the Student Center map. http://www.studentcenter.uci.edu/files/Directory-letter.pdf
  2. sorry for like the quadruple post, but OP has been updated with the FB event and start times/room location for the tournament this saturday: https://www.facebook.com/events/502226603175698/?ref=3 Also, as I now work on Saturdays, Valin will be running the tournament so sign-ups will be done through him or evilragnarok (I'll still be entering though, just won't be there early). I'll still be happy to answer any questions or concerns though. Hope to see you guys there!
  3. Hello, last update before tomorrow: Tournament start time is 4PM PST. Which means if you sign up at 3PM or before, your venue fee is $1. Also, as a reminder, any chance of getting a free flight/entry to CEO2013 is dependent on turnouts. If we do not meet the requirement another prize will be determined at a future date.
  4. Hello everyone. An update about the ranbat on Saturday: First, doors open at 12pm pst for all games and casuals. It will be held in the Newport Beach A room in the student center. Please refer to the original post for maps. Second, there will be some new rules in place for the ranbat season. First, there will be early bird discounts and late fees for the venue fees. If you sign up an hour before the game is scheduled to start, venue fee will be $1. If you sign up less than an hour UP to 10 MINUTES before the scheduled start time, venue fee will be $3. If you sign up later, venue will be $5. For example, if marvel starts at 8pm, sign ups 7pm and earlier will be 1+5 for pot, 7-7:50 will be 3+5 for pot, and after 7:50 will be 5+5 for pot (and you also risk disqualification). Telling me you will be late does not void this penalty... I will only consider you signed up when your entry fee is paid (so feel free to pay for your friends). There will also be a BYOC(bring your own controller) rule. You are responsible for being prepared to play when your match is called. We will not delay your match because you forgot your stick or someone else is borrowing it for their match. If you need to borrow a stick from FG@UCI staff, it will cost $2. This isn't some fast way for them to make some cash but to penalize irresponsible players. Here's how it will wok: When we call your match and you do not have a controller, you will be forced to immediately borrow someone else's stick or rent one for the fee above. Keep in mind if you borrow someone else's stick and their match is called, the penalty will apply to them. So don't be that guy... I saved the most important for last. It seems scheduling is very open for P4U, so I will leave it up to you guys to decide when you want this thing to start. I was very lenient with delaying start times last time, but since we are an official game now it will start on time, so please think carefully. We can start anytime after 1pm PST as long as we can finish before 11pm. Please let me know by the 29th 7pm PST so I can tell the FG@UCI heads. If no time is chosen I will decide one and update you here by that time. I will probably default to 5pm PST. As an FYI SSF4 starts at 2, KoF starts at 5, and Marvel starts at 8pm. See you all Saturday!
  5. Due to UCI screwing us again and to better coincide with NCR, season schedule has a slight change. There will be back to back ranbats on April 13th and 20th, then the biweekly schedule will continue starting May 11th. Sorry for the inconvenience to those with scheduling conflicts There are a few more updates as well, but they aren't terribly important (show up on time and byoc incentives) and I'm not in the mood to type it all out on my iPhone so just check back the night of the 29th
  6. Thank you Jebailey! I hope we will be able to take advantage of your generosity =O
  7. I have updated the OP with information and will continue doing that for each ranbat. For this particular upcoming one on the 30th, I will be super last minute on getting out specific information such as start time and room location as I will be in Japan from the 14th-29th. So I highly encourage those interested to join the FG@UCI Facebook group (instructions can be found on the SRK thread as it is invite-only), since each tournament will have its own Facebook event.
  8. Thanks everyone for coming out and congratulations to Tloc for first. So basically due to scheduling conflicts with the school, we will be able to do something awesome (I hope) for the P4U community. P4U is now the official 4th game of the UCI Ranbats, and the first official ranbat will begin soon. It seems that all rooms on campus were booked on the 23rd of March, which if I am correct, would've been the next time Super Arcade was going to host a Saturday session. Instead, FG@UCI decided to start running the next 6 ranbats of the season on the 30th of March (the saturday after), and continue the bi-weekly schedule. I believe this means that we will never clash with your events at Super Arcade! Also, the end of the season prize is still up in the air. However, I was told that if I am able to consistently get 24-32 man brackets for P4U, the prize will be a free flight and *probably* free entry to CEO 2013. Right now SSF4AE2012 and UMvC3 also share these prizes, so Jebailey is well aware of the situation (we'll have to probably re-ask him for P4U entry though). If there are any problems please let me know, but I will continue updating this thread for each ranbat as the events are created on FB. I'll be late for the one on the 30th since I'll be in Japan until the 29th, but feel free to join the FG@UCI facebook group to keep up to date with all our events. Let me know if you guys have any questions! For those that have played in the first 2 side tournaments in P4U, you do not get any ranking points for your performance, but the results will be used to seed the tournament on the 30th.

  10. I will be heading out to UCI soon, so any last minute questions please post on the FB event page linked in the OP. There will be someone monitoring it In the mean time I did one last update to include links to maps of the neighborhood and the Student Center itself, as well as which room we will be playing in.
  11. While I don't post on DL like.... ever... I am familiar with some of the Rebel Up guys and I won't judge anyone for anything. Quite honestly I'm more concerned about this one Sunday event than FG@UCI's master plan with the ranbat season. If P4U is streamed on Sunday (either on Offcast's stream or TLoc's stream), I would be totally OK with a shoutout to the biweeklies at Super and probably would encourage it if anything. There are only a few goals I have: - Get P4U at FG@UCI - Continue growing P4U exposure - Help everyone level up for EVO I do not believe any of the 3 goals above require an ultimatum of "everyone in SoCal DL must go to one venue or the other". We've had a few regulars at the UCI sessions and various other smaller tournaments playing P4U so if it continues like that, that's fine. I just figured to post here because P4U is competing in a popularity contest, so hey grab bodies where I can. And I'm sure there are a few people on the forums who don't attend Super regularly and a regular tournament in Irvine would be convenient/ideal for them. Grabbing those people instead of grabbing regulars from Rebel Up is infinitely more preferable imo. And if the FG@UCI heads go "hey, this is pretty dumb that a bunch of people showed up on Sunday and aren't coming regularly anymore" well then, that's their call. I'm not the type of person to make anyone feel guilty or responsible or whatever the hell. In fact I just told one of them about the fact that there will be bodies on Sunday who won't show up regularly afterwards if they wanted to take that into consideration, and he said any entrant will be a count towards the popularity vote so as long as we have more, we are good to go. So for everyone planning on continuing to attend Super biweeklies on Saturdays, at the very least there will be a tournament with pot prizes this Sunday at UCI that, if you are available and have no conflicts in your schedule, I encourage you to be at =)
  12. Hey Watson, This is pretty much poor planning on our part, since we didn't have a set 4th game due to this popularity contest. If P4U wins out on Sunday and secures a spot for the rest of the ranbat, then yeah obviously it will be up to the community on where to go. I myself and I'm sure all the FG@UCI leaders who have met you respect you and everything Super Arcade has done, so we don't want to step on anyone's toes either. If the regulars at Super Arcade want to go to Super Arcade, that just means smaller tournament at UCI, not a problem (and honestly I'd probably default to Super Arcade if I was in their position). We'll still run P4U as normal. Again, this is all assuming P4U is the 4th game after Sunday anyways. Full schedule is as follows: Ranbat 1 - February 23rd Ranbat 2 - March 10th Ranbat 3 - March 23rd Ranbat 4 - April 6th Ranbat 5 - April 20th Ranbat 6 - May 4th Ranbat 7 - May 18th Ranbat 8 - June 1st Sorry for the inconvenience =( Let me know if you need anything else to help make this situation easier for you or the community.
  13. Hello all, I will be updating this thread for each ranbat at UCI: The Fighting Gamers @ UCI (SCR, Fight for Relief, Curleh Mustache West Coast Edition, etc) will be hosting their FINAL of an 8 session ranbat. The official 4 games are AE2012, UMvC3, KoFXIII, and Persona 4 Arena. Because the first 2 ranbats were used to figure out the fourth official game, the season has concluded. It will be hosted in the (TBD) room in the Student Center. Maps are linked below in this post. Doors open at (12:00pm PST) for sign-ups and casuals, and the tournament for P4U begins at 4pm PST (may be delayed if SF4 runs late). Entry fee per game is $5, and venue fee is $3. So one game is $8, two games is $13, etc. Pot distribution will be 70/30 to 1st and 2nd respectively. Official end-of-season prize TBD (more on this later in the thread). Tournament format is double elimination, and challonge.com will be used to generate brackets with seeding based on season points and overall skill level if it's your first time. While we will be likely able to provide at least one set-up per game, it is encouraged to bring a set-up. There is also a monetary incentive to bring a set-up as your venue fee may be waived, and more information about that can be found on the FB event page. There will be some new rules in place for the ranbat season. However, if our tournament is delayed for reasons beyond our control, such as SF4 running late, then we will probably waive the late penalty. In regards to the end of season prize, we unfortunately were not able to hit the 24 man mark in the first ranbat, and thus the flight to CEO will no longer be offered. However, there will still be an end-of-season prize and it has not been determined yet, so if anyone has any suggestions/preferences please let us know! So far the only suggestion has been offered by Richard Nguyen: "waifu pillows for top 3" If you are interested in any other games, feel free to enter those as well! Rule set for P4U: Basically, EVO rules. http://evo.shoryuken.com/evo-player-guide/evo-tournament-rules/ Game Settings: Versus Mode, 2/3 Rounds, 2/3 Games (3/5 Games for Grand Finals ONLY) If the players do not agree on a stage within 15 seconds, the match will be random stage select. No bracket cap for P4U, although this may change if we suddenly get a bajillion entrants Ranbats will be bi-weekly starting March 30th. Due to scheduling conflicts and NCR, there will be back-to-back ranbats in April, and the season finale will be played on a Sunday. Full schedule is as follows: Ranbat 1 - February 23rd Ranbat 2 - March 10th Ranbat 3 - March 30th Ranbat 4 - April 13th Ranbat 5 - April 20th Ranbat 6 - May 11th - POSTPONED UNTIL MAY 19TH Ranbat 7 - May 25th Ranbat 8 - June 9th (cancelled due to conflicting tournaments) Ranbat points will be distributed as follows: 1st - 8 pts 2nd - 6 pts 3rd - 4 pts 4th - 3 pts 5th - 2 pts 7th - 1 pt Current standings: KaoticDragon - 27 pts Kanji West - 14 pts Valin - 10 pts AS|Reynald - 8 pts InfiniteImage - 6 pts TLoc - 6 pts Shtkn - 4 pts Yogse - 3 pts Akihiro - 2 pts 4 Leaf - 1 pt Toki - 1 pt If there's a tie, we will probably play a tie-breaker match. The following link contains the campus map for your convenience. It is color coded to show you where we will be located as well as where you are able to park. http://img838.imageshack.us/img838/4308/ucicampus.jpg The following link contains the Student Center map. http://www.studentcenter.uci.edu/files/Directory-letter.pdf For more information, you can check out the following links: Find Fighting Gamers @ UCI Facebook Group: tinyurl.com/ucifg UCI SRK Thread: http://bit.ly/fightinggamersuci Stream for official games will be done by Offcast: twitch.tv/offcast , youtube.com/offcasts If you have any questions feel free to use the resources above, post on this thread, or msg me on twitter/facebook (kaoticdragon). If I can't answer a question I will direct you to someone who can.
  14. Hey DL, This has been out for about a day now so I'm sure most of you probably already know, but for those that don't, EVO has put up a Facebook voting page for the games you want to see at EVO 2013. It's not an official voting system as it's primarily more for seeing who's interested in what, but it certainly won't hurt. Putting this in the P4U general discussion but GG, BB, Marvel, and pretty much any and all games fighting game players play (including non-fighting games) are voting options. Also, as of right now, super smash melee is beating EVERYONE. Which is pretty dumb. I mean really, #freejiyuna should be beating smash. https://www.facebook.com/questions/10151203340569383/
  15. Aquapazza was interesting, am definitely going to spend some time learning this game just to figure out cool point/assist combinations. dunno how seriously I'm gonna take it though, considering I have a long ways to go in P4U PS: Lolimaiko played Aigis in the danisen
