I was wondering what are the Chie specific combos? I saw some videos where AT guillotine is done and found out that it is used specifically for Chie, but I'm not sure what it actually adds to the combos.

Yep there is a gap and it can be anti aired or DP, but it would depend on whether it can be countered on reaction. From what I've seen in training mode, the J.B seem to come out pretty fast despite the gap. And since most people expect you to 5AA or 5B from the 5A with maybe a mix up of IAD AT to safe jump most DP, maybe it will work. I haven't used it extensively to see how effective it is. I think it's just another mix up to keep the opponents honest I guess...

well from what I tried out in practice mode, if you do this setup in point blank, it is better to do the Tsurugi A because the J.B will knock back the dummy into the range of Tsurugi A. If you do tsurugi B, the meaty 5A will put the dummy in the range of tsurugi B first, but then the J.B will push it back to the former spot and tsurugi B will miss. And yea, I really need to get in habit of doing 2a starter more. I tend to mess up a lot when I try to do 2A > 5B by doing 2A > 2B instead >.<. I usually have a habit of trying to confirm the 2a by doing another 2a before I do the bnb too. Need to practice that more in real matches because I'm fine with that in training mode.

I got a variation of Eshi's oki set up that I think might work. I tried it out only a few times in net play and I got it working one time Sweep > Tsurugi A[Hold] > dash 5A > J.B > Tsurugi hits Basically the same concept of using meaty 5A and IAD for crossing up, except that J.B from the 5A cancel should cross up and hit then combo into the Tsurugi. If the opponents manage to block the cross up J.B, then you got the tsurugi covering up for you to do your next mix up. Depending on the distance, you can use the A or B version of tsurugi. I haven't seen anyone do 5A cancel to J.B for cross up in any videos. Is there anything wrong with that? I tried it a bit and it seem to work really well as mix up which gave me the idea to use it on oki too.

Cool guide. One thing though, do you have any setup under green axe? I think if I get hit confirms in yellow/red axe in corner, I would be more tempted to just go for damage instead with omc or omb.

oh wake up super jump? lol I actually never seen anyone do that to me yet. I didn't think you can jump your way out of 5C since it kinda also hits high. Most people just do regular jump back and end up being knocked down.
-
Well sweep > 214A into 5C at least is only vulnerable to wake up supers. That is the case with any other approaches though except for rolls.
-
What I meant is that when I do the standard bnb (5a > 5b > sweep), the initial 5A doesn't usually connect at point blank in most situation for me which results in the sweep landing a bit far off. I think I tend space the 5A in order to avoid getting out hit by the faster 5A. But I think I get what you are saying. Maybe I can skip like 5B if it means that I can land sweep closer for example or just try to hit more meaty with my starter.
-
Got it, I'll only try meaty 5A or roll for DP punishes. But this still feels not that great because there are many times I don't land sweep point blank range >.< Since Labry's 5A is a bit slow compared to others I only seem to land it when I have a slight distance. Is backhop (9 > AT > 6) a decent alternative to rolls? I think you can safe jump most DP with it.
-
OK, I guess I misread what the setup was. I thought it was like knockdown/tsurugi > sweep > Tsurugi hits > Meaty 5A > mix up. Then when people start blocking sweep to 5A, I can just go for straight into meaty 5A and cross up using held down tsurugi.

I honestly think 5C is a better oki option. It beats rolls, jump backs, DP and only loses to some wake up supers. After that it is 50/50 with the sweep or guillotine for overhead (people can still react to guillotine, but still...). Obviously you lose lot of potential damage because one hit of sweep/guillotine doesn't do much damage. But I think it builds momentum due to better success rate. This is like the only time I've been successful using oki with labrys.

In the past, when I try to do the oki, people either, jump back, roll, or DP. It's a guessing game that I've lost majority of. I really want to take away the jump back and roll. I wish the people would just sit back and block for once lol, so I can at least try doing some mix ups. Based on Eshi's guide, doing a close sweep after tsurugi (I'm doing B version), would make my opponents think twice about roll or jump back. Honestly think maybe it's the lag + spacing because I try to sweep as soon as possible, but all the people I played against simply jump away or roll... I really don't have any answers to this other than my execution is bad I guess.
-
Well, the sweeps I think I've done were not point blank range and that's probably the problem. In the past, I couldn't land a 5a/2a or throw in those cases and I thought a sweep would be able to land better. I did practice with dummy and it seem to work. But I think combination of lag and my split second slowness in execution is probably the problem. In any case, I haven't had any real success with Labrys' oki so far.
-
I've practiced the oki setup quite a bit for past couple of days and decided to try it out on net play. I was playing someone that would roll on wake up all the time, but my sweep wouldn't land >.< There were some lags in those matches, so I don't know if that could be an issue or not. Either case, I haven't had any success landing the sweep against rolls and jump backs with my oki.
-
Yep, I've been practicing this setup. Mainly focus doing backhops (9 > AT > 6) in the blockstrings in the oki pressure. Something about doing backhops in blockstring I can't quite get down 100% with hours of practice at the moment. I can do it well when I'm on right side, but not as good on the left >.<
-
Yea, it's definitely an execution fault on my part. I only tried it on Aigis as the dummy. I don't know about anyone else. My distance was done at point blank range in training mode. I'm still bad with execution with this game >.< I tried to spam sweep as soon as I execute Tsurugi and that seems to work; it is just not consistent for me yet.
-
So, I was playing around with the setup a bit in training mode. I set the dummy to jump and noticed that I can only get the sweep to connect once in awhile. I try to sweep as soon as possible, but still miss it sometimes. Hopefully I don't have that issue against live players.
-
OK, thanks for the explanation. I got a bit confused and it sounded like to me that I just do straight off 66 5A into tsurugi in certain situations. Gonna practice this in training mode and see how it turns out in my matches.
-
OK, just so that I really understand the whole sequence... it is: bnb with tsurugi B hold > sweep > [tsurugi B hits] > 66 > 5A > mix up (IAD, etc)? And I should be able to do this regardless of the first sweep from the bnb hitting point blank range or far off? Though if I can hit the first sweep from bnb point blank range, I don't have to hold my tsurugi and just dash meaty 5A? Sorry if it sounds like I'm repeating myself, but I still wasn't sure of this.
-
Sorry, I didn't quite get it... when I'm far off, I should sweep > tsurugi (do I use B tsurugi and hold it?) > sweep? But this won't win against rolls and jump back? If that is the case, I'm not sure how it will work for me since most people I play against rolls/jump back most of the time against the oki. And to clarify, does TC's guide meant that I do meaty 5A at point blank and not sweep after tsurugi? I was getting a bit confused from reading it since it was stated always sweep at point blank range.
-
Just a quick question, so I can't really do most of these oki setups if I can't land the sweep point blank range? There are many instance where I land my bnb not really at point blank range, so the sweep I land is a bit far off as I mentioned before.
-
wow thanks a lot for this guide. I could never get anything going with Labrys' oki. Felt like I was losing the guessing game most of the time and this explains it lol. I noticed that most people just jump away and I try to do IAD air throw for those cases, but doesn't always work due to some spacing/timing in addition to not guessing right. I did try the meaty 5A, but sometimes my sweep lands a bit far off and there is a good amount of space that I can't even land the 5A when people just jump away. Anyways, I'm gonna practice the oki listed here and see if it helps in my matches.
