As for a router, it's what allows 2 or more computers to connect to each other or share the internet connection. Type 192.168.1.1 and Enter on your browser's URL bar. If some sort of Username:______ Password:_______ screen pops up, you've a router. If not, no. Here is what a router also looks like in physical form.
Should you have one, it should be located either in your garage, or an easily accessible room somewhere in the middle of your household.
