Perhaps you're right. I don't know. I live in Japan and of all the fighting games I play (DOA5U is not one) including BB, UNIB, AH3LM and P4U2 I never have trouble getting matches. These are still relatively new games, I know. However, given that the object of a fighting game is to be able to "test your might" against other players and given that online, while not perfect by any means, is still the standard way most people experience this... not having online from day one is just incompetent, foolish, misguided etc. After all, it is the casuals who pay the rent. Tournament level players are cool, fun to watch and take games to new heights. But they are few and far betwen.

Thanks for that!

After checking out the wiki, I"m still not sure about a few things regarding exclamation points and blocking. Throws I understand. I also understand that blocking at the wrong "height" will get you a !. But what does the blue exclamation point mean?

Don't mean to sound rude, just blunt. But really, updates without online play? Seriously, who even cares anymore? Is it just insufficient resources, man hours, no money? Lack of netplay is really holding this game back. I mean, it's not as though it's ever going to be a super star and its time has more or less come and gone, just a flashy footnote in FG history... let it go out with a glorious bang and not a whimper

So does anyone know how the color advancement is determined? Number of matches * grades * types of victories/win-loss ratio... or something to that effect? If this has been answered elsewhere, pleae point me in the right direction!

Well, if anyone can help that would be great... however, I just tried substituting 5C for 3C and it makes the timing a lot easier. Actually no it doesn'... you can't go 5B, 5c, 3c, 5c... sigh
-
Ok, so I can reliably do: 2C, 3C, JA, JB, JC, 6B, 623C But when I do the full version: 2A, 5B, 5C, 2C, 3C, JA, JB, JC, 6B, 623C I can only sometimes get the second hit of the 6B to connect which is necessary to get the 623C as the ender. There is obviously a timing change in there but what/where/when in the combo should I be focusing on? Otherwise doing fine with Hyde, just puzzled I can't get this...

Thanks for all the feedback. Really useful. I got online last night but nemesis was nowhere to be seen. Been hitting the training room hard recently to hit combos more frequently (so I can punish without thinking, rather than "oh! an opportunity, umm, what... ahhh!) and it paid off last night. I'm also finding the Love arcana and its love laser (is it me or does that sound like a 70s funk song?) very useful. Got a few dirty victories with the arcana blaze love ball distraction into a throw. Sure, it's shenanigans and likely not work much again... but was still fun.

So I'm a new player (new to arcana but not to FGs). I've more or less got the basics of the game under my belt. Currently playing with Weiss because she seems relatively familiar/straightforward. I was online the other day and pretty much got zoned out by a Catherine player firing missiles constantly. I was maybe to impatient/reckless trying to get in but had a really hard time getting in. Once I was in, it was fine and I could run my BnBs for days on this dude. So, question: what are the best ways of dealing with Catherine's projectiles? Does it just come down to patience and not letting her get out of range? But what to do when that happens?

Totally agree. I'm a fan of the game, warts and all. As it stands, offline or in the arcade (I'm in Japan) it's basically fine (well, broken bits aside) but the console port feels rushed and incomplete. FKD seemed to have their hearts in the right place, got off to a good start and really made things happen but with such a small team, scale and scope eventually seemed to have caught up with them. Whether it would have taken off or not, IMO the absence of netplay really harmed the game's potential reach to a wider audience. Too soon for a RIP, then?

I too sincerely hope for an update. Perhaps it is premature to say - it feels like FKD shot their wad with this one. It is what it is and will always be that way. Kind of like a kid who showed promise but disappointed her parents by turning out differently than expected. She's not bad girl, didn't do any thing wrong... just things didn't work out and everyone gave up on her. I'd love to have some real confirmation from FKD on the status of this game. Are they just out of money/resources/man hours? Or are they just done with the game?

As a Kuma player. I am loving this. Being able to drop out of the air into an AOA is so cool. Also, I'm starting to get the hang of double item drops into triple drop super. Things get hectic fast. I haven't been on DL for a while. Anyone here actually playing the game? If you're in the Mikawa area in Aichi, there's a competition on January 26th. Drop into M's in Kariya (on route 155, near the Meiho bookstore).

You do yourself a grave disservice. I play Kuma and had a play of the Shadow version earlier this week. At first I was thrown off by the lack of burst but it forced me into a more offensive, aggressive playstyle. Plus, being able to carry meter over to the next round is such a huge deal. When I went to the gesen yesterday, I played regular Kuma. Although the tweaks are abundant he still plays very well. I guess I see regular/shadow moves as two sides of the same coin which allow you to experiment with a different play style. Yosh! Nesica card registered, P4U2 guild name registered, 1.33 hours until I can blow this popsicle stand and kick ass at M's in Kariya. Anyone nearby?

Where are you playing? Who are you playing? I'm interested in this game and so far my experiences with other games when playing Japanese players are fine. I only occasionally have lag and it's usually when playing someone in the US or wherever. Anyone here playing it in Japan?

Glad you said it cos I was just about to. A true combo can't be blocked after the first hit. The attacker can mess up timing and eat a reversal or whatever.
