  1. I went to Foonzo a couple of weeks ago and I was very surprised at what they had done to the establishment; all the stand up arcade cabinets are pretty much non existant and replaced with sit down cabinets that are frankly unplayable. It's quite unfortunate this is the decision they decided to make as I firmly believe that it was the regular's and each respective scene that kept Foonzo going when they were in financial difficulties or just could not attract new customers. They are starting to move on from the fighting game bar stigma they had to a more actual 'Bar' where there are tables in the middle of the room and a few couches for groups of people and no real cabinets to speak of. It is my belief that both these demographics (the hardcore fighting game enthusiasts as well as the casual's who would not necessarily play on the cabinet) make up Foonzo the brand / establishment. I started going to Foonzo around a year ago and found a place that i absolutely adored, pretty much video games + alcohol is a pretty damn good combination; along with people who just absolutely love fighting games. to see it very suddenly shift like this, with far less emphasis on the hardcore fighting game crowd is definitely a tough blow to take. Also knowing a lot of the staff I knew and met at Foonzo have moved on seems like Foonzo is going an entirely new direction (Kirbster) UMAD 2014 was absolutely amazing at Foonzo and I will never forget it; I can still see myself going to Foonzo once in a while but its clear they have chosen the demographic they want to cater to: with their menu being constantly changed to be more "Bar" like (removing dumplings and bubble tea and etc) as well as the complete remodel of the cabinets and infrastructure itself. It seems like a good time to finally be more apart of the scene as UMAD 2014 was my first ever tournament and i absolutely adored it. If you guys eventually do find a new HQ or what not ill definitely see if I can come by for some casuals or something. I wish all the best for Foonzo regardless of the choices they have made. Hype for GGXRD and P4A Ultramax!!
  2. This was my first UMAD and the hype and atmosphere for all the fighting games was just absolutely amazing; i was blown away. A few shoutouts.. (am i doing this right?) - Shoutouts to the ridiculous hype Zidane and St1ckbug were bringing in the crowd; those constant BURST and USA chants were just awesome - Shoutouts to the entire Montreal Foonzo crew for putting on an absolutely phenomenal event; ended up buying a sweater and T-shirt and loved all the casual stations and the vast multitude of games. - Shoutouts to Blazblue in general; probably my favorite fighting game ever, i ended up going 1-2 but was very happy about winning one match! my goal next time is to make it on stream :P - Shoutouts to Rurouni being a beast at just finding everyone that is needed to be found and getting them to their games; he guided me well! Also shoutouts for him being a fantastic individual and a great friend (also could have easily been the bouncer for that night) - Shoutout to Kirbster for playing extremely solid and getting 3rd place. Practice up for EVO i know you can get your revenge! - Shoutouts to LordKnight for just being a 2D fighting game God. your blocks against Psykotiks Carl were absolute pleasure to watch. I was blown away - Shoutouts for entering Gundam with Rurouni and LIVING UP TO OUR TEAM NAME (how do we play this game?) but in all seriousness the game was fun and i would like to learn it. - Kaeru for being an overall really nice guy and giving me some solid tournament tips! I will heed your advice! - shoutouts to the pretty fun 15-20 matches i played VS Livewire in BB casuals. - shoutouts to Zidane annihilating the top 8 of guilty gear. it was tough to watch lol :P - last but not least, shoutouts to everyone who came out from different provinces around Canada and the USA. made the event that much more hype. ILL BE BACK NEXT YEAR! =D
