That guy's JO is sick. Player's name is Shiroi (trans: white)

Hitstun Data. PO's Frame Data. PO's 6HS, Slidehead & Giganter are all level 5 moves which means the best you can get from IB'ing them is 14 frames. Unfortunately, 14 frames is more than enough for Giganter loop to commence/continue, so you've got to reversal backdash that shit, like Render has previously stated. Also: Shouldn't this be in the Potemkin matchup thread?
-
I'm with Render on this one. I have never understood why so many players sit and do nothing while getting giganter looped. Instant block, backdash, whatever, just do something. Alternatively, you can find some way to force Pot to use up all of his tension. IIRC, he has to have ~25% to even start a loop from a slidehead.
-
So where is the sweet spot for this match up? The place where you can become a nearly unswattable fly. I'm thinking it's right outside his 5HS, since he cannot touch you with anything other than 6HS, hammerfall and slidehead. From this distance you can: -Slashback/Backdash*(*Not tested, yet) his 6HS, Dash in and 2D>Coin if he chains into slidehead -Dash in and 2D>Coin slidehead, for free, all day, every day. Or dash in, 2K, f.S, mist finer After testing out 2D's properties for another thread, I noticed just how bad an idea it is for Pot to do a uncombo'd slidehead in range of JO's Dash>2D or Dash>2K. It seems to me that it's possible to eat Potemkin alive this way. Am I missing something other than 6HS FRC>Slidehead?
-
Just tested this in the US AC release. Johnny's 2D is immune to slidehead very late in the recovery frames (as he is rising from 2D). It's a very small window, 2-3 frames, even. Not very useful, IMO. Edit: Also, Potemkin is cheap. ):

I think A3 pretty much nailed it with his descriptions. Though, I must say that I really can't stand watching DC play anymore. The coin is awesome, but I think you should at least hold on to one or two until your opponent is at 30% health. He also doesn't seem to place his coins with much thought. Also, bonus: Watch any video of DC vs RF on youtube and you can see RF disrespect the shit out of him. On Omito: He's a great player with awesome combos/resets, but it seems like he chokes when going up against certain players (N.O, for example). One of my favorite players, for sure. Suzume: The smart version of DC. Locks down with minimal coin usage. Places his coins wisely and in holes where locked down opponents think there's an opening... only to end up hanging themselves. SICK MC combos and probably my #1 favorite competitive JO player. Hiro seems to be the newest JO around AFAIK. I've been pretty impressed by him so far. Also has the best player name, since it ties in with one of JO's win quotes. ------- Why has no one mentioned Wise(Waizu)? He's pretty damn fun to watch and has a very... aerial/fast paced play style.
-
You are using level 2 MC, right? You've just got to get used to pressing 3 buttons a few frames apart. It's not as hard as it sounds, I do it on a pad. And yeah, MSY's MC stuff is somewhat hard to do. So many variables. I bet some of those combos take him 20+ tries. Knocking her down three times in succession and then IK'ing her? I've done it quite a few times versus the computer, but I'd imagine it wouldn't work well on an opponent who has a burst and knows how to properly use it. I've also seen an obscure japanese JO pull it off in a real match, even misted her at the end.

Wow, I guess no one else has the time to DL your video and respond. Well, I will. Combos look more varied, trickier, etc. (Also: I lol'd at "It's a tricky situation") IMO, I'd say if you keep on that mind track you'll be set. The only other thing I can say is to find some stuff to inspire you, old I-no combo videos, match videos, new combo videos ("Seventeen" would be an awesome place to look). Brainstorm and think of stuff "Man, that'd look cool. I wonder if it can work." then test it out. Go through the basics of I-no's gameplay and see if you can twist/rework it into new things or things you had forgotten about.

I'm looking for a Johnny CM called "Black Feather" Does anyone know where I can download it (besides nicovideo) or the link to the player's homepage?
-
Marlin is an unstoppable force of nature.

Take everything I say with a grain of salt, I've only been playing I-no for about a week. I'd like to see: 'Trickier' stuff* More P-Dive/D-Dive antics (CL, frc, D-Dive, etc) Start some combos from frc'd CLs** A combo or two that leave you in the position to catch a tech, not just stuff like air combo into VCL, land, c.S, delay (tech), airthrow. Meaning, you're in position to throw and recover right as their window for teching opens.*** *Things like: (air combo) VCL, FRC, P Dive>Combo... (air combo) P-Dive, HCL, frc into combo... A few CL combos that aren't just FRC>airdash... consecutive HCLs in an air combo. **I.E: VCL, frc, 2k, c.S>Air combo ***Stuff like (tested on PO) [close] HCL, frc, c.S, 5HS, forward jump, j.HS, P Dive, air dash, j.S, j.HS, HCL , FRC, H Dive... land>air throw as he techs
-
Yeah, you can do this all day. But you got to remember about block stun. You've gotta give 'em a couple of frames to twitch/try poking for the MC into OD to turn into an "oh shit" moment. Come to think about it, being close and attacking Johnny when he's got 50% tension is almost always a bad idea.
-
Two basic ones for any beginner JOs (pot buster range) 5HS, coin, 5K, 2D, Mist (counter hit) 5HS, coin, dash c.S, 2D, Mist [c.S can be switched with 5K, obviously]
-
I'm fond of buffering an OD after mist cancels and during dashes.
-
I lie and wait. And when my Johnny sense tingles, I'll stuff them with a 6P, 5K, or coin. If nothing else will work, backdash.

Hey guys, I'm playing Venom again. Currently using this combo to practice my FRCs, charging and generally learning to combo with Venom again. In corner: (String) 5HS, Dubious Curve (S) [1], FRC ]1[... -S Carcass Raid, dashing 6P, 6HS... --Dubious Curve & Return to pressure --Attempt to charge a carcass raid and continue the combo (Still very bad at charging from 6HS) -Stinger Aim, FRC, 6P, 6HS (...whatever combo) Note: upon 14th hit, 6P>6HS is techable (but perhaps you want that?) Also: we don't have a Venom combo thread..?
-
So how far have you ever gotten in Survival Mode?
Kadius replied to Blade's topic in Guilty Gear General
XX: 530 something, Johnny. AC: 255, Zappa... I've only played survival once in AC. -
Level 3 mist finer isn't really something I aim for, to me it's bonus opportunity for Johnny. I tend to look for reliable double coin opportunities. I.E: [on Dizzy] 2D, Coinx2. lvl 2 MFM [in corner], Coinx2, Jackhound. Or KJT, KJ, land, 2P, 5K, Coinx2 [on Pot]. Hmm, I tend to use level 3 as a punish, maybe I should play around with using it offensively as well. Here's a pretty fun match video of Suzume putting the hurt on an Aba player after he gains level 3.

We need need a normal hit->coining guide somewhere. As in: 2D into coin works on who and at what ranges, who you can combo after it. Actually, maybe I should do this... Also: Johnny's dash being cancel-able into an attack should be mentioned somewhere in one of the guides, if it isn't already. It took me forever to figure this out. Edit: I just got back from starting Zappa and Ky. If any one wants to volunteer to help on this guide, I'll be much obliged. Obviously, we'd be spitting the load.. or whatever you felt like doing. What I'm noting: Throw->coin->1 hit/knockdown *This is the major concern* 2D spacing to connect with coin, combo possibilities, etc.

In the combos I posted, you're actually hitting them with the fire portion of Ensenga. You see, if you keep your opponent and ensenga close enough to the ground, it's untechable. That being said: Alot of characters can tech the second coin before your TK ensenga hits (it's a tiny window, but techable). I haven't thoroughly tested it, but KY, JO & PO can't tech this. Which is fine, since I mainly use it against Ky. Other than that, I haven't seen a character that can tech a single coin into TK ensenga. I like it because I can't do the coin ->IAD into 1-hit to save my life. I dub it, the Lazy JO Combo.

So, uh. MFM corner combos. I know they suffer from alot of prorating (with two lvl 2 mist finers or jackhound), are distance dependent and require decent execution, but sometimes it's a good option (I.E: Ky) to lead into an air combo/lvl 3 mist trap. Basic: lvl 2 MFM, coin, (optional 2nd coin), jackhound*, mist. lvl 2 MFM, dashing 6HS, jackhound, 5k, (5 HS), coin. lvl 2 MFM, dashing 2S, 5HS, coin Into air combo: lvl 2 MFM, coin, dashing** 5HS, lvl 2 MFH, air combo (~200(?) damage with KJ FRC combo) *You can combo into a lvl 3 mist finer, but it's not worth much due to the prorating. Lay the mist and THEN use your lvl 3. **Dash not always needed here, can cause your opponent to crossover during your air combo. Dash when you're out of 5HS range or not sure if you are. Edit: Recoin & tensionless knockdown: (All in corner, obviously) lvl 2 MFM, coin, (optional 2nd coin), TK Ensenga (2nd coin is techable for light chars) lvl 2 MFM, coin, DBT~DB lvl 2 MFM, coin, coin, forward jump, j.HS (Tested on Buri, hard timing) Sexy. I'm digging the TK Ensenga into knockdown, keeps you at a nice distance instead of being point blank on wakeup (Jackhound). Cheap too, I wonder why the hell I've been wasting my tension on jackhounds for this, for so long.

Oh, come on guys. Quit complaining that KJT isn't auto JI. Jump installing in AC is braindead easy. Just try it. I've been doing 5k, 8, 2D, KJT>KJ, frc... or 5k, 8, 2D, DBT>DB... And it works. On a pad, at that.

Anyone know the full quote that starts as "Honmono no me..."
-
My god, what an awesome combo video. Very stylish. I thought "This is how you play Johnny." Also, red Johnny ftw. I'm a little ashamed to admit it, but I didn't even know you could link: throw, j.k, j.s, d.j, j.hs

Favorites: Pot, Slayer Basicly anyone I can outpoke and land PHAT COMBOS. Loathed: Buri, Sol, Ky I hated Sol so much for a while that I learned how to ib/punish most anything he did. ib'ing his guard string and then catching him bandit revolver and airthrowing Sol into the corner, apply some mist... feels good. I got so good at the JO vs Sol match up, my friend pretty much quit him. But I still hate playing vs Sol.
