I'm not great at figuring out combos but I'm pretty sure it's just knowing if the hitstun on a move is longer than the startup of the next move you want to go to in the combo.

Q&A about Joystick Building, Parts, and Purchasing
7heTexanRebel replied to mr.mortified's topic in Hardware
So I'm not sure if the PS3 version of this controller is just outright bad or I got an exceptionally good copy of the 360 version (xbox one still works perfectly fine, had it since CS1 came out) but my stick has been acting up recently. (I got it about a month before the US release of CP) It'll hold directions for several seconds, preventing input i.e. input a qcf and get stuck walking forward. It also occasionally delays button presses by a noticeable amount but other times it's completely fine. I'm considering buying a more expensive hori stick but I'm worried that it wont be compatible with the PS4, forcing me to buy ANOTHER fight stick for that when Xrd comes out (and any other next gen fighters). I've seen something about being able to run sticks with 2 boards or something so they work on ps/xbox, would that sort of thing be possible with ps3/4? Also, are the more expensive sticks for PS3 compatible with PC cuz I haven't been able to get my cheap one to work. (xbox one does though) -
TheTexanRebel on PSN. Live in the DFW, Texas area. Started playing fighting games with BBCT and feels like I'm only just now getting a basic understanding of fighting games, but haven't really been putting much time into it. I'm really having fun with Izayoi despite losing most of the time and my fundamentals have gotten much better since starting to main her. I'll put up some more videos once they're not all like this (http://youtu.be/OuDWLa_ZKfQ) and I get a capture card. I actually figured out that Valk's dropkick is an overhead and not a low after he hit me midscreen for once instead of constant corner rape and I saw the red "!". If anyone can tell anything from that match other than "get better at everything" it'd be nice, but I wasn't able to do much. (The previous matches were much worse) PS: Sorry for the crappy recording

So I watched a bunch of my replays and noticed a couple things: I drop combos online that I usually have no problem doing I do blockstrings on hit I try to do combos on block I have terrible oki Overall it seems like my defense isn't as much of a problem (most of the time I block way more of their stuff than they do mine), it's when I try to get offensive I cant hitconfirm into damage or safely pressure them. As for uploading replays I'll have to get a capture card unless I want to record trashy quality videos of the TV with my phone. 90% of the time vs the CPU I seem to get CH's because they're constantly attacking and hardly ever block (especially if they've got a DP). I tried setting the CPU on random block and I think I've found my problem... I'm going to need A LOT of practice at this, even with 3-4 hits/blocks I'm still autopiloting into whatever random thing my hands feel like doing. Thanks guys, pretty sure lack of hitconfirm-ability was my main weakness.

No I don't have a sparring partner, just playing randoms. Yeah, never thought about watching the replays. Off the top of my head it seems like most of the times I get hit it's from trying to get in and just getting out-prioritized or trying to reversal unsuccessfully/

I've enjoyed playing Blazblue since CT, and it was what got me playing fighting games in the first place. I started off having issues even doing the inputs for specials but now I can block and combo pretty well. Nobody I know IRL wants to play me in BB anymore because of the skill gap. So now I'm having a really hard time getting better since none of the matches I play online are even remotely close. I think I've won 6 entire matches since the US release of CP despite playing several hundred games. My neutral game is just awful and playing the CPU is less than helpful considering they'll just 1F input a super on reaction to a fullscreen 5A. I can usually hitconfirm into a combo or end with a safe move on block if I can actually get a hit in but I just cant react to 90% of the stuff people do online. (only time i manage to tech grabs, for instance, is if I happen to be trying to grab them at the same time they go for one) How am I supposed to get better? Is the answer to just get bodied more and learn that way? Cuz my blocking is certainly better, I just cant actually get any pressure going to set up some damage of my own.

I'm having an IMPOSSIBLE time using Phorizer as a reversal, what am I doing wrong? Most of the time I get 236C, just normal 5C, or sometimes nothing at all despite having no issues doing it in combos or just throwing it out there hoping they push buttons. Do I have to input the entire thing in 1 frame after getting out of block stun? I'm seriously having more luck using 6A than Phorizer as a reversal.

I'm having a horrible time with literally every character just rushing in and mashing while everything I do to break their pressure ends with me getting CH. Missed 623B/C's are a huge thing, I really wish the hitboxes were bigger or they had some sort of meaningful I-frames. Heck I'd take a big damage nerf to NM just to give me some sort of defensive options. Maybe a 623D Aegis Blade that doesn't give you stars but is F1 invul and doesn't cancel into anything? Seems like it would be good without being broken. As she stands now it seems like all the other guy has to do is just go ham right from the beginning and you're already dead. Maybe I'm playing her wrong but I've been trying to stay outside in normal mode and throw sabers and use CS to call out their air/ground dashes and it usually works except for when I miss 623B because of its single pixel wide hitbox and then I'm basically dead since the only thing I've been able to get to work for me is 6A but it feels gimmicky at best. Gain Arts is fun though. Almost every time I've been able to get into it with some stars I win, it's just that most of the time I don't get there.

I liked playing around with listening to the character voice clips in the audio portion of the other games galleries but I can't find it in Chronophantasma. I saw there's a location test audio portion in CP's gallery but after unlocking some of them its just a 3 sec audio file of the VA's saying "oh a location test hurr". Am I missing something? Has anyone unlocked/found the old voice clip mode? Do I have to unlock more or did they just take it out, cuz that would be a bummer.

Is this game worth picking up this late?

BlazBlue Official Art Thread and Directory
7heTexanRebel replied to Chaoschao222's topic in Zepp Museum
I'm going to put this here since I don't want to necro the BB sprite thread. I can't for the life of me find any of the sprite files for Hakumen's counters (Drive, Yuki, or Aku) do they exist anywhere? I DL'd Circ's rips and I cant find it there or online. I know the center part is from his meter but that's about it. -
Q&A about Joystick Building, Parts, and Purchasing
7heTexanRebel replied to mr.mortified's topic in Hardware
I did some searches and didn't really find much in the way of an answer. So I guess here is the best place to put this. I have a Hori VX fight stick for 360 but I recently bought a PS3 in anticipation of BBCP's release and I'm thinking about just getting the PS3 version of the stick, I have 2 worries though: 1) I'm going to have a stick that will only work with my PS3 copy of CP since it's probably not going to work with PS4 (unless I somehow mod it.) and I have most of the other fighters that exist for console on 360. 2) The deadzone feels massive but that doesn't seem to be a listed stat on any sticks that I've seen making it hard to compare sticks without other people's input. Apparently you can mod this, but I'm not sure how great an idea that (and console compatibility modding) would be with a relatively low end stick like this. The deadzone isn't really a problem with most inputs except super jumps and dashes but I seriously was able to do some combo's with like 5 minutes practice on the PS Vita version of EX that I never got with hours of practice in the console version with the stick just because the little thumbstick on the vita doesn't move as far. So, is it realistic to mod a ~$50 PS3 stick to work for PS4 or am I just going to have to shell out for another stick when I decide to go next gen? And: How are the deadzones on fightsticks? Is the Hori VX pretty standard and can I mod it relatively easily to have a smaller deadzone for stuff like dashes and sjumps? Or is it just better for me to specifically practice just dashing and jumps with the stick I have now? Thanks in advance. -
It's either a tweak to the AI, or just me having gotten worse after not playing for a long time but I remember AI Tager being a lot more predictable. 5A spam used to make him randomly 360 even if he was way out of range. I'm trying to get good as Hakumen since my Ragna is/was incredibly braindead (100% offense with my entire neutral game consisting of dash 5B and j.C). I'm not really good at pressure with Hakumen but I'm trying to hitconfirm with 2A and 2B. It just seems like he blocks my first hit and if I try to continue hitting in order to push him away then I eat the throw (probably just bad blockstrings) and other random shenanigans.
-
I've been trying to practice against Tager in training mode and it's getting ridiculous. (Mainly because he keeps wrecking me in score attack and I got beat a couple of times by one online) 1 frame 720's from neutral and it seems like the CPU reads inputs, which doesn't seem to be as much of an issue with most other characters, but Tager's moves have a lot of invulnerability and the CPU is godlike at using it. Basically the way the CPU plays Tager is cheap and nothing at all like how I've seen human players play him. I've enjoyed the challenge of trying to block the entire rest of the cast with CPU on 100 but his command grabs do so much damage and he perfectly knows when to do the AA grab if I jump or ground 360 if I don't, it just feels impossible to defend. As for offense if he blocks my initial attack and I'm close enough to have combo'd off of it I'm forced to jump out or eat a 360 or jump out and pray he doesn't AA me. Is there any point in using the CPU in training mode for Tager? How should I practice vs Tager?

What's the purpose of Haku's drive now? It seems like they keep getting nerfed. How does he play in CP vs EX cuz I've been planning on switching mains from Ragna but if Haku plays way different in CP there's no point in practicing him in EX while waiting for CP US release.

What is your playstyle? (Poll)
7heTexanRebel replied to Grimsley-San's topic in BlazBlue Online Play
I cant block for shit so in your face. Usually ends up with me landing a couple of big combos and winning or dropping said combos and getting whittled down by a 2bar playing haku or tager spamming 6C or 360s -
BlazBlue Question Thread - Ask your questions here!
7heTexanRebel replied to KayEff's topic in BlazBlue Gameplay
I didn't think this deserved it's own thread so here goes. TL;DR: Want to get better at game, defense specifically. Who should I play? BBCT was my first competitive fighter. (Came from Smash) I settled on playing Ragna after I failed hard at Noel (drive spams that weren't even combos) and Hakumen (6C spam). Thing is, the most I've done with other characters were some their easier challenges in CS->EX and got a feel on how they match up with Ragna. Right now I feel like my offense is pretty good, I can pressure decently, I know most of his combos and can usually get a good amount of damage if I get a hit in with and without meter. Unfortunately I have absolutely no defense other than basic blocking and I fail at blocking low/high correctly a lot. I mostly just spam DIVIDAH! if I get knocked down and that doesn't always work out well. I cant tech grabs reliably at all, even the blue ones. I would play against human players but it seems I never get to the game early enough in its life to play against more than like 1 guy an hour since everyone was playing extend by the time I got online in CS and now that I have Extend it seems everyone's on CP. I'm thinking of switching to Hakumen to learn some defense and more calculated offense but I'm having a lot of difficulty with him since 6C spam + Random Yukikaze/Shippu still seems to work better for me against the computer and my irl buddies than any attempt at combos since I drop them all the time (could probably be remedied by long hours in training mode). Haku just seems to have a lot of different options, idk if that makes him harder or easier but is it a good idea to just stick to him and try to learn it all? Or should I pick someone else? (not Tager, not a fan of grapple fighters)
