Core Skills That Every Great Player Has Mastered
Guilty_X replied to thekiyote's topic in Guilty Gear General
That's basically where the word prodigy comes from, which is just an insanely talented kid. Probably didn't even need to practice that much to get to that level. Same reason why I am way better at smash than anyone I know even though I don't play it that much. I could pick up the controller right now after not playing in a year and still be as good as I was after a couple games. I can just really feel the game and I just understand how to play it very well. That's talent. Now sadly doesn't carry over to GG. lol. Two words. Guitar Hero. I was also very high level at that game and I can tell you the best players.... were just born that way. (better than I ever was and I was good). -

Of course lol. Not everyone's born the same. That's why some players are dramatically better than others that still play the same amount of time. Of I could say, no matter what, why you will never place in Evo top 8. lol -

That's a fair opinion. Of course I disagree. As you can see from my posts Things like reflexes you can't teach. Or feel, picking up the controller and just automatically feeling it more as an 'extension of yourself' as someone else. There would be different degrees to which this is true for each person. This is an intangible thing and is all part of the talent aspect. This is just how I see it. -Guilty -

Talent is all the things you can't teach. So, talent is deciding in a split second that the unorthodox/unordinary decision is actually the one that will win you the game in that instance. I would say picking up a new engine has to do with both experience as well as talent. -
Is GG the Best fighting game of all time?
Guilty_X replied to Guilty_X's topic in Guilty Gear General
This is pretty much what I was getting at GG accomplishes all those things which are some of the hardest things for a fighter to accomplish. These are things that pretty much any other fighter lacks. Watching it is also art in motion. The bread and butter combos are long and oftentimes deal extreme damage but one of the great things about GG is that it's not over until it's over. Can't say that for all the fighters. So if someone just deals intense damage, all it takes is for you to get back in an offensive position and you can easily tie it up if you play correctly. There's no random luck component in GG, only skill. -
Is GG the Best fighting game of all time?

I might go check that out, lol. I don't like BB very much. IMO it's just a watered down/slowed down GG. Since IMO GG is better in all aspects, I see no value in BB at all. -

So, finding out frame data etc is something anyone can do. But a talented player can apply that skill much more effectively than a non-talented player, get it? Talent is all the things you can't teach. Again, why some people can pick up a new engine and learn it right away. Luck is when something you can't control happens in your favor, or when something unecpected happens that gives you the edge. Ie getting faust's meteors at the perfect time when getting another item would've lost you the match. That's luck. -
Is GG the Best fighting game of all time?

It pretty much has to be. If you look at videos of SF compared to videos of GG, it looks like SF was created by and for children under the age of 8. It just looks completely idiotic. GG on the other hand is a work of art, and watching it is just amazing. It also moves at a faster pace, and takes skill just to follow it! The sad part is GG was created by and for people of a higher level of functioning which is also why things like FRCs are incorporated into the game. I'd also like to add in that GG has by far the best characters, and music, of any FG. That's pretty hard to argue. -
I read the rules and I have no reason to believe this thread is in violation of any of the rules. It's a valid question that needs to be asked. Is GG the best fighting game ever created, and if so why? I haven't played much Xrd. I'm talking specifically about Accent Core + and +R and even reload which are the games I've played the most. Accent Core is the better game. The engine in +R is amazing, and ability/skill is such a massive component in the game, more than any other fighter I've played. If you don't know what you're doing, you can't win, no exceptions. The game is insanely balanced. Learning a character is such an involved process. It requires dedication just to be able to play the game. The game is also insanely fun and exciting to play in addition to looking and sounding far more beautiful than any other fighter created. The techincal metagame is also nothing short of amazing and a work of art. These are just some of the reasons why GG would be the best. Maybe some of the players who are more educated on the technical side of the game can elaborate even more. But I won't even play any other fighter (besides melee). And I'm way better at melee. I have won tournaments with melee. I'm comparably horrible at GG. But watching smash vs gg, you can tell which is the 'better' game. Melee is the type of game that anybody can just pick up and play. That's why you see all the top players basically playing with everyone. The game is insanely easy. Whereas with GG, many players just have to use one character because they're that hard to use. If you use more than one character, it's considered impressive.

I'll have to disagree. I've played college level d1 athletics and am also a pretty avid gamer. Talent is a real thing. A player like Dogura can pick up this game and do things out of instinct that other players just can't. Likewise why some players can pick up a new version of GG and automatically be ok at it. Others need to spend a lot of time in practice just to learn the engine, etc. Some players can instinctively tell right away how to adapt to the engine. Talent also explains why two players can spend the same amount of time in practice and one comes out wayyy better than the other. Talent is all the little subtleties in a match that you can't teach or learn. Could be psychological, or just have to do with 'knowing' what to do in a split second's time. Sports and FGs aren't that different. -

+1 I agree with all of this. I'd like to add in one thing- Talent. The best players are inherently talented at the game and are born with a natural talent or 'feel' for the game that no matter how much a non-talented player practices, he can never attain that quality. That's why you can see guys just pick up the controller and are automatically good. -
I don't know why people like streetfighter. it's a horrible, horrible game. Guilty is inifinitely better and always has been ever since guilty gear x2. SF is bad. Tekken is ass. Soul Calibur is cool for 3d fighters but again GG beats it out. Smash is a great game sure, but it's nowhere on the quality level of gg. Smash is more just a wild game, gg is much more refined, etc. So since gg isn't accessible, as in it's a really f'ing hard game to play and you NEED to practice with a character just to be able to play at a basic level, people don't like it. People are lazy. That's why they like Tekken. GG is destined to have a small user based especially as most people can't recognize the true quality of the game in all its aspects. At least its at Evo and the fact that gg isn't on the main stage every year is a little baffling. It's the best fighting game ever made and Evo is supposedly the best fighting game event. Oh well, hopefully Xrd catches on a little.

All it takes is one Pot Buster and he's basically tied it up. Sh*t is so cheap Pot is a difficult player for me to play against regardless of who I'm using and it just has to do with my playing style. I'm not good playing against Pot or Venom specifically.

+1 for Pool balls Hate those fuckers. Also playing too close to pot (I don't have Xrd)
-
Don't tense up when it's the last round and you're both really low health. Lol. Probably the worst habit in GG.

Air throws yes. Air throws are actually pretty difficult to do. Back dash Being able to land your intended combo 100% of the time, no questions asked. Taking advantage of being able to regain control of a fight every time, no questions asked. Those are what I can think of -
XRD character whos gameplay most embodies what makes GG great?
Guilty_X replied to LifeIsGood4's topic in Guilty Gear General
IMO this question doesn't really make sense because there is no one character that "embodies what makes gg great." What makes gg great is the variety of characters, and how they're all completely different from one another. Most characters play literally nothing like the next, so can't say there is one that emobodies gg. Pot embodies gg just as much as eddie, just as much as millia, just as much as Johnny. Despite the fact that none of them are anything alike at all -
Posts like this? That doesn't make any sense. This is tier discussion and Guilty Gear discussion and I am discussing the tiers. Unfortunately in this game they took out all the characters! So you really only need three tiers now. S tier, and 'everyone else' tier. And then Potemkin tier. That's it
-
Honestly, I love Guilty Gear Xrd. But I hardly even see the point of tiers at this point as they decided to take out all the characters! I would never be able to justify that. The game is great but taking out all of the characters that we love was really a big mistake. I hope everyone that was taken out is included in a future update and soon, as it will give players time to practice before Evo comes around, as GG is a main game once again, and I hope it stays that way indefinitely. GG is way better than any of the other games featured on there and completely blows blazblue out of the water. GG is the best fighter and one of the best games ever made.
