  1. Ah...well the guy I was playing never tried it, I guess he didn't know the matchup. Point noted.
  2. Which card does Guilty Gear use, and can I use the same one for BlazBlue or would I need to buy a different sort of card for BB?
  3. Rashousen from far away (max Rensen range or further) seems to work pretty well. Potemkin already has to sit there and block a lot of Rensens, so there's a good chance he'll get caught. Obviously, don't be too predictable about it, but once I started seeing that it was working, maybe the guy I was playing wasn't that great (still better than me though), but I threw my fair share of Rashousens out and I rarely got caught. Unless he's already expecting it, all Pot really can do is jump over it on reaction and Axl risks nothing. Keeps the other player on their toes too. I'm pretty sure this was also the case in AC but throwing out 6H is especially risky against Pot, since 90% of the time it seemed like he just backdashed into Pot Buster, to the point where I just gave up on using it at all.
  4. Getting back into Guilty Gear after a LONG break. I live out in the countryside but am an hour away from both Kyoto and Nagoya. Besides a-cho, anyone know what the big arcades in both cities are and at what times do a decent amount of people play GG or BB? The one time I went to a-cho it was 10 pm on a Saturday night so it was just me vs the computer.
  5. Unless it changed just this year, it's from 7:30-10 PM and in whatever available room(s) on the 2nd floor of Dwinelle.
  6. Nice, right when I get back to Berkeley I get to go to my first tournament. I will almost definitely make this. I want to enter both BB and GG, but I don't have either a PS3 stick or converter, so would I be able to borrow either a stick or converter for my matches if I do enter the BB tournament? That's pretty much the only thing keeping me from pre-registering right now.
  7. Probably not, since GG is my main game and I only really started playing BB on like this past Saturday at AI, so I probably would (and did) get owned bad by the real players. I'm more active in the scene in NorCal too when I have school since I can actually get around without a car. Down in SoCal I've only been to AI twice before last Saturday and a gathering at pulsr's more than a year ago. I'm looking to go to AI again in the next week or two. I assume Thursday-Saturday would be the best days to go?
  8. Finally went to AI and finally decided to try and start playing BB. GGs to everyone. I played default color Jin, Axl on GG whenever there were people actually playing that.
  9. If I tried, I'd probably break something else. LOL, but really, can you tell that the parts are actually that bad? They seem fine to me...but then I do keep complaining about not being able to do half-circles and DP motions.
  10. GGs everyone, and thanks to Rod again for hosting! I sorta seemed to lose energy as the night went on, sorry if that made it less fun for anyone to play against me. Same here, I do hope they're OK with it, and that the $1 we all chipped in does compensate. Who had the HRAP with the pink stick and buttons? I really liked the feel of both the stick and the buttons, what are they and where did you get them?
  11. If you liked the mirror matches when you came down for the NorCal ranbat, I'll be in SoCal (for summer) ready for more.
  12. GGs everyone. Though my execution was horrible, I'm still quite happy about my performance in the ranbat itself and the casuals afterwards. Thanks GGJ for the great venue! I hope you did get the chance to play some GG, every time I saw you you were watching... Bi-weeklies would be awesome, especially if we could get one this month. I don't want this to be the last ranbat I go to before I go back to SoCal.
  13. How would we get inside the dorm in the first place? Over here at Berkeley the dorms are locked from the outside too, so I suppose we need some way to let someone know we're outside. For writing down who we're visiting, is just writing down Ray's first name fine? Maybe it'd be better if we knew his first and last name so that it doesn't seem like we're just randomly coming in. And does Ray have to be with us when we sign in?
  14. 15 minutes by car...Checked Google Maps, and Union City BART is the closer one. Seems the bus service to the campus is AC Transit, so I can get on that for free. If I come, I can bring a PS2, GGAC, and a surge protector. No TV though.
  15. I might come to this. From Union City BART (the closest one I think), what's the best way to get to the site? Or would there be someone willing to pick people from the BART station (I can't be the only one)?
  16. If I did a 3P, 2D blockstring while charging back (for the Rensen if the 2D hits), how would I cancel the charge if they block the 2D and I want to go for 6H?
  17. Oh wow so you do remember me.
  18. I'll be back in Cerritos during winter break, though I don't know how free I'll be during the break. I do plan on playing GG, whether at AI or at a gathering, at least once or twice while I'm down in SoCal though. I'm not really good, but I hope I can provide some competition.
  19. The only reason the NorCal thread has almost 700 pages is because of people posting about random anime and other stuff. They'll rarely talk about GG. I'll be back in SoCal really soon for summer, so might as well post in here.
  20. Out of all the matches I had against Wolf Pup, you had to put up the one where I did the worst... Are there matches of me vs Yumi Saotome? If so, could you kindly upload one where I, uh, lose not so badly?
  21. Last active frame of the meaty? I guess there's that (except I don't know what the advantage of that is), but also I'm curious if there's a way to practice getting them on the first frame they get up, because I want to practice an Axl meaty unblockable at the end of a corner combo that should be unavoidable if done perfectly (don't think they can even 1-frame jump from it).
  22. Is there a way to practice doing a perfect meaty in training mode?
  23. Haha, it's a pro wrestler from WWE named Edge (real name Adam Copland). Yeah, I used to watch wrestling back in the day and still keep up with it every now and then.

  24. So I played this pretty good Ky player and I just have a lot of problems against him. In zoning, he stays right outside of my range, putting up a j.D to prevent me from IAD j.S while he does his Stun Edge, and I just don't know how to close the gap. I can't run in since I can't charge Rensen at the same time to throw out and cancel the Stun Edge once I'm in range. And when he rushes in, it's either a straight dash or air dash. So I have to guess whether to use 5p or Rensen (I don't think 5p hits a running Ky), and it's especially bad if I use Rensen and he does air dash, because then he gets a free hit. And then there's the pressure. Usually by this time I'm backed up into the wall. Aside from Dust being unblockable for me and Greed Sever being semi-unblockable, I just can't break out of the pressure. Every time I think the pressure's ended, I try to throw out a 5k or 2k only to be beaten out by Ky's 2p (I'm assuming this is a frame trap). And then there are the throw mixups, which I don't know how to deal with. And if I try to jump out, Ky jumps too and hits/airthrows me. This is the hardest part of the matchup for me (and probably in general), and I need help especially on how to break out of pressure. And my rush isn't particularly effective because my opponent's fast reaction time limits me to 2k on oki, and Axl's somewhat slow overheads aren't hitting the mark. Should I be focusing on mixups in my rush or should I try frame traps like my opponent (that was his advice to me)? What does this mean? I don't think I can do a perfect meaty, how do I practice that? The writeup at the beginning of the thread was quite helpful, and any feedback on my particular problems would help me even more. Thanks for the help.
