  1. Ack, been busy with workload so I never did come by and reply in here. ;_; Just wanted to thank everyone once again for coming by and participating in the tournaments! I personally had a lot of fun, and took home a few things on how to improve my game. I think the PDX BB/GG crew is more than willing to head up to Washington for more meets and events, so we'll see about getting that going. :D Aside from that Epic seemed to be great on space, so we'll see about hosting future events there. Hopefully next time we can get more locals to show. -.-
  2. Getting more info ironed out. The current plan is to formally start the tournament @ 2PM (allowing out of town peeps a bit more leeway on travel time), with casual play both before and after the tournaments. The setup will be available until Epic closes @ 10PM. I honestly can't imagine the two tournaments plus casuals taking longer than 8x hours, but if anyone thinks more time is really necessary than let me know and I'll see what I can do. In the meantime, still looking to drum up interest and have a great turn out! Tell your friends! For the sake of additional planning and spreading the word, I'll also be creating an event on facebook. Will update the OP with the link once it's ready!
  3. Deleted my old-last-post so that I could bump without double-posting. I've talked with peeps at Epic, and we've settled on April 21st. I still have a couple details to iron out with Hellsap but I think we're pretty much set here. Just another reminder, if you have interest in attending and think you may show, please update this doc accordingly! It'd be great to know how everyone feels on the current details while we still have time to potentially change them. :D
  4. Shameless link to thread for said (potential) tournament here: http://www.dustloop.com/forums/showthread.php?13660-Blazblue-GG-Portland-%28OR%29-Revival-%28TBA%29
  5. Tournament is go! Location: Epic Gaming Address: 17185 SE McLoughlin Boulevard, Milwaukie, OR 97267 Date: April 21st, 2012 (2:00 PM) Cost: $5 venue fee. $10 entry per tournament. Prize: 70% / 20% / 10% of prize pot for 1st / 2nd / 3rd. After gauging interest, it looks like we'll be able to pull off the tournament! The main event will be a BlazBlue tournament in hopes of reviving a local scene of sorts! The tournament will be a standard double elimination, best 2 out of 3 matches per matchup. (Standard setup, at least for the events I've been to) Something definitely worth noting is that most (if not all) BB players there are also fans of GG, so a GG side tournament is definitely likely to happen. (Hell, we could even make a pot for that as well if we so wished. :3 ) I'm going to talk with Hellsap a bit more about some specifics, but figured I'd update the original post so people can plan on the date. I'll add more info as it's decided, and am personally looking forward to an awesome event! In the meantime, please update this sheet accordingly if you're interested in attending. This way we can have an idea of who all is showing up. Much thanks all! Note - It was brought to my attention that Best Bout is also trying to gauge interest in Portland BB/G.Gear player base. I feel it might be wise to coordinate here, as more events in the Portland area means everyone wins! :D
  6. +1 for BB, GG, and MB. :D Haven't been paying too much attention to BBG since I'm scrubby at KOF13 and don't really bother with Tekken or Capcom fighters (as much anymore). I'd definitely make an effort to show though if you started featuring the three mentioned fighters! :D
  7. Pretty much in the same boat as most here. With BB out I had put GG off to the side since I didn't really have much of a reliable way to play Accent Core (well) on an HDTV. Pretty hyped about this though! Being able to train on my newer consoles is great, but being able to have GG tournies without requiring everyone to lug along CRTs is even better! :D
  8. Hey guys, I've always absolutely loved this series, and feel I'm long overdue for actually getting involved competitively. (Or at least giving it a shot) I know enough for the very basics, but nothing really in terms of comboing or even good pressure or the like. (Character of choice here being Gallon) So I guess here's a couple basic questions having come from a semi-competitive background in fighters. 1.) I know the majority of play right now is done via GGPO, therefore on the equivalent of Arcade hardware. I suppose one question is how does playing on Vampire Collection (PS2) compare to say, playing on Vampire Chronicles (Dreamcast) and having both players pick "V.S. Type" for their character? I know that PS2 Vampire Savior is pretty damn close to arcade perfect, but honestly my Dreamcast is by and far the easier one to play. (Broken PS2, and PS3 h8 import PS2 titles) I mean sure, I could just try playing with friends or practicing via GGPO. I just think it'd be a bit more convenient to make use of a console version. Actually, I guess that's my only real question until I get some halfway serious play time in. Thanks in advance for any answers, peeps.
  9. Sir, I respectfully disagree. Tager can combo his spark bolt into an Astral. I don't think it had to be a counter hit or anything. (Someone feel free to correct me if i'm mistaken) Lambda's AH is so stupidly close range, and on top of that you can just mash A to hit her before it goes off. =| I will agree though that a lot of astrals are better than others. I would personally be a bit happier with them if everybody had the same accessibility to use theirs, but am not really expecting that change any time soon.
  10. Hey guys. EdgeKun / Ed / Robot here. Just wanted to step in and thank everyone for the G.Gear and CS matches. :D Had a lot of fun at the tourney, and really had a blast getting to throw down matches with peeps i'm not used to fighting. Here's to hoping I won't be scrubbing it up quite as much next time I get to play you guys.
  11. The talk of PS2 games going onto PSN was back when PS2 support was still available at least by software emulation. When you remove PS2 support (even for discs) be it emotion engine or software compatibility from the PS3, then the PSN idea dies then and there. So sure you wouldn't -need- the emotion engine, but you still need a PS3 that's capable of PS2 backwards compatibility. (Unless you ported it to a PS3 format, but then you're not really doing a digital release of Accent Core PS2 so much as you are doing a new release of the code from the ground up.) Was mostly pointing out in my earlier post that it'd be very feasible except that PS2 gaming isn't very do-able on current PS3s. =\ Even then, I'd perfer a full re-release on LIVE and PSN so that I can enjoy it on my 360. Can't let you PS3 kids have all the fun. =P
  12. Good idea, but there are a few inherent flaws in this. 1.) "Now I don't really know much about PS3, but nowadays isn't it pretty PS2 backwards compatible?" No. PS3 backwards compatibility is at an all time low as far as I'm aware. I say this because new models shipped don't even have the software emulation. It's pretty terrible, and the single biggest reason I refuse to support Sony with PS3. -.- 2.) In regards to Accent Core on the software emulation (the 80 gig model) I myself had heard that it was flat out unplayable. Not just due to lag, but technical problems that existed between Accent Core and the method of Software emulation they were using. Now that said, tis otherwise a great idea. I'd even heard talk for a while that Sony was going to start releasing PS2 ISOs online through PSN (similar to Xbox Originals, and pretty much exactly what you proposed) but I guess that died in the face once PS2 backwards compatibility was ditched. Interestingly enough, I've heard rumor that Sony is working on a new way to run PS2 games on PS3. I guess a new software emulation, but one that emulates the Emotion Engine? In summary: Supposed new shiny black magic PS2 emulation on PS3. Wouldn't hurt my feelings at all, and would at least make this option plausible.
  13. As much as I hate to refer over there Shoryuken's Tech Talk sub-forum has a wealth of information regarding joystick modding, especially dual modding. (Pretty much the only part of SRK that I frequent) The actual dual-mod process essentially involves taking a PCB (printed circuit board) out of a controller, then wiring up your buttons between both PCBs. (So, you'd be wiring up each button to both the 360 PCB and the PS3 PCB). This way whenever you press a button, both PCBs receive the input and send out commands to their console. Whichever console is plugged in at the time is the one that receives the input. =) (You just never EVER want to plug both console cords in at the same time) What you'll definitely be wanting is a Cthulhu PCB designed by Toodles (an SRK member). For all purposes it's a PS3 PCB, but he designed it knowing that people were using it for dual modding and the like. Because of this the PCB has very nice, clear, and labelled solder points. Oh yeah. I hope you can solder, or can learn how. That's required for dual-modding. Anyway, that's just a summary of it. I can't stress enough, go to Tech Talk and read up. There are lots of tutorials there with pictures / labels / instructions, so you won't really be going it alone. =) EDIT - Blech. In the time I took to write down an overly complex answer, Celcius beat me to an actual link. =P And yes, that guide works just fine for TEs. The SE and TE PCB are damn near identical.
  14. You're really oversimplifying the situation and not realizing how complex the porting process is. First off, Battle Fantasia on PSN is just an ISO release of the Japanese Blu-Ray. (Except localized) They're just selling the exact blu-ray image online, which is fine. There's absolutely no new code, so of course it's easy for them to port it to PSN. Guilty Gear is not possible this way, since there's no current version of it for 360 or PS3. That said they'd have to completely move over and port the existing code base from the Naomi hardware. Saying that Guilty Gear would be easy because Battle Fantasia was is a giant neon sign showing off your ignorance in coding. In addition don't forget that BF was running on the X2 hardware (same hardware BlazBlue is) whereas Guilty Gear is still on the Naomi board. The process for porting these two systems to XBLA and PSN are completely different. You can't just take a program that converts X2 code to XBLA code, then throw Naomi code in and expect the same result. =| Now i'm not saying it's impossible. Triggerheart Exelica, Ikaruga, and Rez on XBLA are all excellent examples that Naomi code can run quite well in an emulated environment, or when re-turned for at least LIVE Arcade. (Whichever of the two. And i'm not saying it's not possible for PSN, but just that the above mentioned titles prove it's do-able on XBLA at least) What I am saying however, is that it's blatant ignorance to claim that "This just shows how easy this could be." with regards to porting BF vs porting Accent Core to PSN.
  15. There are two noteworthy differences between these two sticks. The first is that the Mad Catz TE is Common Ground, the EX SE is not. This means that in the event you want to mod the stick to work on multiple consoles (PS3/360/PS2/whatever) you're not going to be able to do that on the EX SE. At least not without scrapping it's native PCB entirely and throwing in a brand new one. So if you want one stick for multiple consoles (ie you can be sure your stick will be good for however they're playing a game at tournaments), the TE will be a must over the EX SE. Aside from that (so if dual modding isn't a concern) I'd say go with whichever is cheapest. :P The TE uses Sanwa parts the EX SE uses Seimitsu. There is truly no "one is better than the other" answer, because it all comes down to preference. Both however have grade A parts, and that's really what matters. So if Dual Modding, get the TE. Otherwise, flip a coin or buy the cheapest one. Either way, you win.
  16. Oh man. Like the rest of you, I'm remembering back to years ago. First discovering that anime trailer and thinking how amazing it was, and how amazing it'd be for an anime series, or that it meant one was coming out. Yeah, in hindsight, definitely glad we won't be getting one. I have nothing against fans who don't play the game, but I could see plenty of annoying animu kids tainting our beloved series with their fanboy/girlish nature. Agreed. While Maria mode was fairly cool, SotN in Drac X Chronicles was possibly the worst thing to happen to Symphony of the Night. No new dub can possibly compare to "DIE MONSTER. YOU DON'T BELONG IN THIS WORLD" *throws wine glass* But enough talk, HAVE AT YOU!
  17. lol. Sound Box = prize item in my OST collection <3. Not even due to rarity, but just being the definitive collection of so many songs I've come to know and love. I truly lucked out in being able to get it. ;_; I'm surprised though, for the past year or two the sound box was always in stock on import sites. Why is it alluvasudden sold out everywhere? O.o The twice as expensive part does really suck though. Exchange rate is currently crap, and I've had to hold off on buying a bunch more OSTs due to them just being so much more expensive than they used to be.
  18. Seems like so far this is more about how much merch you have than how big a fan you are. :P Anyway, GG Games I own: Guilty Gear (NTSC-U PSX) Guilty Gear X (NTSC-U PS2) Guilty Gear X+ (NTSC-J PS2) Guilty Gear X2 (NTSC-U PS2) Guilty Gear Isuka (NTSC-U PS2) Guilty Gear XX SLASH (NTSC-J PS2) Guilty Gear XX Accent Core (NTSC-J PS2) Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus (Append) (NTSC-J PS2) Guilty Gear XX Accent Core (NTSC-U PS2) Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus (NTSC-U PS2) Guilty Gear 2: Overture (360 US) Game wise I'm hoping to add the Dreamcast version of GGX, and both PSP releases (Judgment and ^Core+) to my collection at some point or another. Not sure when that'll ever happen though. GG Music Owned: In addition, the original release of the Guilty Gear Original Sound Collection, and the Guilty Gear Series Best Sound Collection While the games are fun and all to play, I think the soundtracks are really the favorite item in my collection. That said though, I am a bit of a audiophile. >.>
  19. You missed his entire point. With Mugen you're hard coding every value for characters. That's why you're able to have so many different characters available. In the case of Guilty Gear, you have a custom crafted engine that's interpreting inputs and character data to create the output of frame data and what we experience in competitive play. I honestly can't imagine (no exaggeration here) how long it would take to hard code every single value(ie how Mugen would interpret it) of every character and how that's interpreted by the engine. EDIT -- After looking a little bit, turns out there's a few open source versions of Mugen (or something similar). While this does allow the possibility of editing a Mugenish engine the fact remains that we do not (and most likely will never) have Accent Core's source code. As such it's pretty much nigh impossible that you could ever make the Mugen engine truly replicate Guilty Gear like this thread seems to be indicating. So on that note, I'll go out on a limb and say that you can't do these things with Mugen (save years of hard coding and testing data), and apparently netplay in "mugen" isn't as highly improbable as you say. Please try and understand what you're talking about first.
  20. Damn, was halfway close. Have 11 at home if you count Overture. Even with this in mind though, would totally be willing to buy a 3rd copy of ^Core just for the sake of playing it on 360. :P Another very good point (that was brought up above) is that a lot of folks are just now buying sticks that support 360 and PS3. (For the recent influx of fighters) Adding ^Core to XBLA and PSN means a lot of folks out there who could finally try GG on stick without having to buy a second (stick) or dual-mod theirs.
  21. Last I checked (and folks feel free to correct me if i'm wrong) nullDC and Makaron were both running at great speeds, weren't they? All it would take is an ^Core Rom dump and we'd be playing it on PC. Personally, I'm skeptical that any amount of fan tweaking could make mugen even come close to being a perfect ^Core experience. As stated above you'd have to get every exact calculation perfect, and I don't see any way for us to even start getting those calculations let alone have them all perfect. (As I am -extremely- doubtful that it's even possible to rip said data off of the disc. It's all compiled and unreadable at that point.) Long story short, I'll personally be waiting for a rom dump and GGPO (or similar netplay) enabled version of NullDC or Makaron.
  22. If you'll hold through on that, just gimme 5-10 minutes with XNA. ;P
  23. Pretty much what has already been said here many many times. This year has really shown a revitalization in the fighting game genre. As mentioned above, we're seeing new sequels + series, in addition to HD remakes of classics, that are all succeeding on a massive scale. A copy of Accent Core with just Arcade Mode, Vs (online and off) and training would be more than enough to not only make your fans happy as all hell, but to also revitalize the GG community. (GGPO based netcode wouldn't hurt either) In summary, +1.
  24. UGH. You kids just made me die inside. T_T Not a single mention of "Love Letter from . . . " ???( ;P ) Joking aside: 1.) Love Letter From . . . 2.) Still in the Dark 3.) Diva 4.) The Re-Coming 5.) Meet Again I've always had a special place in my heart for Love Letter. Something about the bittersweet melody tying in right after Sol's less than happy ending in the original GG really hits me. Still in the Dark (as said above) is truly an awesome piece for a 1v1 battle (and is the single track that got me into this whole series in the first place! O.o ) Diva simply redefines epic final boss music for me. =P Female chorus, lots of wailings, and very fast guitar parts. Great, great stuff. The Recoming is good stuff. My personal favorite of the Sol v Ky themes. (Much love for the background chorus type sound and the ever present guitar wailing) Last, Meet Again falls in with Still in the Dark for having an epic feel for a 1v1 battle song. Much like the Recoming, lots of guitar wailing = win. Mind you though, others mentioned such as Conclusion, No Mercy, and GG2 Holy Orders are great, just not in the top 5 for me. ^^;
  25. Actually the more I read, the more I worry. Supposedly there's something about a loose washer that scratches up the PCB for the stick itself? In either case, warranty be damned I'm opening it up now to see how little or much damage has already been done. D: EDIT -- I just finished surgery on my stick not that long ago. After 5 or so hours tops, there was already a LOT of wear on the PCB itself, and i could easily see where the stick would have flat out died given enough use. I highly reccomend anyone who does own the SF4 SE fight stick to replace the joystick, or at least take the metal washer out of the present stick. Just an FYI to others in this thread. EDIT #2 -- For those interested in such mods, I just finished giving my SF4 Fightstick PS2 support. All things considered, it's a pretty easy mod as long as you're comfortable soldering. =D An incredible amount of thanks once again to you Ikagi-chan. Not sure I ever could have done this had you not pointed me in the right direction. ^^
