Information Regarding Side Events I've been asked a couple of times now if there will be side events for DFC/MB/AH and here's your answer: if you want it to happen then it most definitely can happen, but no one is going to run it for you. The events I listed above are not main events. They cannot be registered for on the NEC XVI Pre Registration Page. Sign-ups will be taken for these events at the event, but how do you know if your side event is even happening? Where is it listed? In order for there to be a side event for any of these games, they must be registered first using this Google Form. From there, NEC staff will contact you directly to work out the details (time slot/space). From there it will be added to the side events list. Keep your eyes on the Big E Gaming Facebook Page for updates regarding NEC XVI. I WILL NOT SIGN YOUR GAME UP FOR YOU. Work within your community and figure out who should sign-up to run it and go from there.

Depends what games you have on your console. When the room is opened up the first day just bring down your stuff and find either Tigre or myself.
-
Please post in this thread or tell me on Twitter if you're able to bring setups. Consoles, games, and monitors are all helpful to both Tigre and myself. All games will be on PS3. We need GGAC+R/BBCP/P4U2/AH3LM/UNIEL/DFC. Monitors are welcome too.

Eric, in order to do something we would need space. You'll be setting up in the main ballroom while teams is going on right?
-
The ballroom we're setting up in will have Marvel in it on Friday, so unless the other ballroom allows for casual setups on Friday then no, there won't be any setups for our games on Friday. Last year no one had any problems finding games in the hotel on Friday (that I'm aware of) and it's the exact same situation. The Copa is not happening this year because it's too small of a venue. As far as playing the JP go: I'm not even 100% sure what their schedules are, so I can't speak to setting anything up with them.
-
Anime has no special event event planned Friday.

Looks like the cut-off is one week before NEC. No. You can only sign-up for games at the door after you already pre-registered online.
-
Just throwing this out there since a lot of people look past it then complain later: If you do not pre-register, there is no guarantee you will be seeded by region and/or skill in the tournaments you enter at the door. You will be placed into the bracket randomly. This is to save time the day of the tournament. By pre-registering you are helping the TOs schedule and plan their event accordingly. When 3 people pre-register but 80 people show up for the tournament and only 1 setup + 1 hour was allocated for that game... get the idea? Please pre-register if you can. You save yourself money and you help the event organizers plan a smooth event. It's a win-win for everyone!

So you might have noticed that there has been some cleaning up in this forum recently. This is to keep upcoming events from getting lost is a sea of old events. Please don't take it personally if you see your event thread gone a week or so after the tournament has ended! If you want to post results for your tournament, please post them in the Results Archive. (I would also recommend posting any shutouts there as well!) Here are some "rules" I'm enforcing on this forum (but don't worry, they're nothing you really need to be worried about): 1). Unless your event uses the same thread for each iteration of your tournament, the event thread will be moved to the results archive (linked above). 2). If there hasn't been an update or post in your event thread for more than a month it will be moved to the Events Archive. If I made a mistake and your tournament is still active, please send me a PM and I'll correct the error! 3). Please keep events in this forum to single-day tournaments only. All multi-day events should be posted in the Majors and Regionals Events Forum. Thanks! If you have any questions please don't hesitate to send me a PM!

There won't be a teams side event. Xrd single elim will be taking that slot. Thought I would be open to single-elim Xrd teams if people wanted it.
-
Historically team events require character lock. I was thinking about maybe letting people enter alone (by allowing them to team with themselves and not have character lock), but that's too weird of a format IMO. It's either teams with character lock or singles no-lock.
-
To clear up one thing: the JP asked for it but that didn't make or break anything. I had been thinking about it for a while (~half a year) and long before it was ever brought up by someone else, but it took me a really long time to come to a final decision (too long in this case). I love Guilty Gear. And I love Guilty Gear teams even more. If I could, I would make every tournament teams, but there are too many "main event" games this year. You could say the JP recommendation was the last nail in the coffin, but I waited too long to act. I'll revert it back to singles. Also, the only reason it's being reverted back is because I waited too long and too many people have made irreversible plans already. The tournament logistics of changing from singles to teams is laughable compared to the power going out, not having enough setups, the brackets being lost, or only 20% of the actual entrants pre-registering (see: not having enough setups). A majority of tournaments run late because not enough people pre-register and TOs have to look into their magic balls to make the schedule. The type of tournament being run is irrelevant, but the number of people entered, however, is a completely different animal. Sorry Zinac, lofo, Essay, and thelo! I can understand if you don't want to come to NEC out of spite. It was my mistake! IMO, and totally irrelevant to anything, the other side of the coin (and what I think about when choosing to make something teams vs singles): Teams and singles still both require you to be good in order to win. Teams are interesting because you get to make up team compositions that cover bad match-ups. Teams let you team with your friends instead of having to eliminate them in the losers bracket. If your friends get mad at you for not teaming with them then I don't know how you can enter the same tournament since you might have to eliminate one another early on. Teams are more interesting to watch (what most of your time is spent doing) because you see more character diversity (more players = more character diversity unless everyone plays the same characters). There are obvious downsides to almost every point and I understand that, but please understand that I was trying to make the event more exciting! Thanks for your feedback!

Teams are always character locked.

5 games? Late. ~10PM.
-
Xrd will be there, but only as a side event.

Most events in Japan are one day because of work schedules. What would people want on the second day? Different games? I still don't know the price for renting out the venue, so funding might not be a problem. I'll keep this in mind though. I would need other games, outside of ArcSys, to show lots of interest (from both US and Japan) to make renting a second day worth it.

This is happening. I'm having a tournament in Japan in Spring/Summer of 2015. All signs point to May, but this could definitely change due to a couple factors, mainly if there are other large events (read: Arc Revo) around the proposed time frame. Think of this as a vacation, but you will have an awesome event to attend while in Japan with all of your friends. Event Info Place: Osaka, Japan Date: May 2015 Games: Xrd, BlazBlue(?), P4U2(?), AH3LM, UMvC3 Games will be chosen by their relevance at the time. This will be a 2 day event, but each respective game will only take 1 day. There will be multiple games per day. Finalized dates will be decided very soon. It will either be sometime during Golden Week 2015 (April 28th - May 6th) or the following weekend. So what left is there to do on your end? Prepare. The most important part to all of this is saving up enough money to go, but how much should you save and how should you plan? I've written a guide that will help you get started about what you should be planning for, but it will be posted later. A lot of you are probably wondering why I'm planning an event like this. That's a good question. there are mainly two reasons: 1). To give people an opportunity to play very strong players in a non-arcade format. 2). To give people an opportunity to travel and have fun with the foreign FGC and your friends. Please let me know if you plan on going. I made an initial thread to gauge interest and it seems like there would be a committed core of players that want to make this happen. I'll put in the work, but I'll need you guys behind me in order to make the event successful. Please post up if you're interested in going or if you have any suggestions. I'm all ears. I want to make this event enjoyable, so getting your input would be appreciated.

All I was saying was that since ticket prices are cheap around that time this year, they will most likely be around the same price next year as well. I would also plan it late in May to try and be after (college) finals for a lot of people. Alright. I'll start putting something together.
-
UPDATE #1 It's been a while since the initial poll (5 months) so I wanted to see what people still thought about having this. About a year from now is when plans would be finalized. You'd have dates for booking plan tickets, a place (or places) to stay, and a rail pass if you so choose. Plane tickets seem to be the best prices around the late May time frame this year ($900-$1250), so that's probably when I would try to plan it next year since I know money is the limiting factor for a lot of people. The prices seem to spike for most of the Summer all the way through August. Relevant games are still a big question since Xrd could be updated in arcades by then (and we'll still be on the vanilla version). Our versions of Persona might overlap but that's wishful thinking. BB was released on console, so we might be getting updates on a new arcade version later this year, so I'm not going to hold my breath. The Arcana guys seems to be really interested in this so that's another possibility. Would late May be an okay time for a lot of people? I will start talking to people in Japan to try and get some details ironed out, but I don't want to put tons of effort into a lost cause.
