  1. Killerwatt! Back in action, I see. SORRY I didn't add more to my post from last time. I really wanted to add more stuff but I get lazy and now it's like 3 pages later, lol. ALL RIGHT. Time to watch your matches. vs OR: Omg, lmao. That run up sparta kick was too good at the start. Sorry. I just had to point that out. Hrrm hrrm, looking decent here but your defense is lacking! In the air!! OR could have had you if he would have jumped in on you instead of gun blazing at the end. FD man! That or at least recover forward? Also, you bursted really early at the start of the round. Don't do that, lol. I know it's a tough habit to break (bursting out of stagger/counter hit stagger) but you'd be better off flailing the controller wildly than wasting your burst that early into the match. Overall, I don't think you look too bad. I notice you aren't divine blading for fun anymore which is good. Savage Fang'd. Fuck. Hrrm, interesting. I see that you're doing some mist cancels but almost always throwing a coin right after? Huh? Why are are you doin' that? lol. Don't sweat it, though. If you're doing that then you would be better off just canceling HS with your coin. You'll want to stop doing this, d00d. In the third round, I saw that OR was all over you with jumps and such-- yeah. You're gonna have to get used to this. I've got experience in this match-up and I can safely tell you that Johnny can't do shit to OR when he's in the air. It's pretty damn safe for OR to jump in from so damn close. You can only do so much (and most of that is too slow) so unless you're an air-throw god, you're just gonna have to wait out his KOF hop fest with some strong defense. 6P vs Gunblaze? Wtf, lol. I see what you're talking about the super jump instead of Ensenga because you could have potentially killed OR at the end of round 4. No worries. Just practice your control over your character. Nothing you can't work on. You seem to be using Johnny's OD a lot in this match, too. I'm not saying that's a bad thing (especially when it's gonna hit like on that Forcebreak OR tried) but you'll probably want to restrict the use of your super to when you know for sure it'll hit. Other than that, you're not lookin' too shabby. You can only improve more. Work on your air combos after throw-- cuz you're gettin' black beat. Things to consider: Be weary of OR when he has meter. That Forcebreak is pretty damn quick and it has a lot range, probably as much as Johnny's low mist finer. It can net him some nice damage. OR with a level 2 charge can pretty much instant savage fang anything-- so you'll want to keep that in mind too. Don't forget that OR's 2HS is an overhead! Don't be intimidated by this match-up! It's just a primitive Sol. vs FA: In the first set, I noticed that you're doin' a lot of air dashing on FA. Nooooo. You may want to drop that habit. He was getting a LOT of free hits on you with crap that shouldn't land in the first place (spinny thing). Also, you tried to divine blade at the start of one round. Haha, I'm all for unorthodox but uh-- yeah. You can't block in this position! Especially when you don't have meter at the start of the round. Free counter hit for FA, too. He was slapping you down a lot with that Forcebreak, too. Product of your air dashing. Defense, defense, defense! You can never get enough. You seemed to hesitate when you landed a good combo opportunity, too. You mist canceled and just kept the stance. Were you expecting a burst? In the second set, you're lookin' a lot better. At the end of one of those rounds, you bursted when FA had really low life and he landed a dust combo. Try to watch when you burst and such. You really didn't have to-- you had plenty of life to spare and judging from FA's earlier dust combo, you didn't have much to worry about in terms of damage. Like I said before, I don't have much exp in this match-up so someone else can throw up their expertise here but yeah-- watch out for that 6HS (overhead) and command grab. Try to find a safer way to start your rounds off in this match-up, too. I find a simple coin suffices most of the time. I'd rather get a level 2 and get knocked down by FA's 2D for a trade than have to work for landing that coin later. Try it. Keep practicin'! Most of your errors seem to be more technical work than anything.
  2. What's goin' on in this thread? Yo' Killerwatt! Watched your matches and I've got some input. VE: All right man, from the start I noticed you used a f.5S at the start of the match. Then after that I saw you doing a 2D and eventually it came down to you divine blading into heaven. I'm a pretty firm believer of getting a headstart from the very beginning of a round and I had no idea what you were thinkin', really. From my experience, Venom players usually use a 2S at the start of the round (good range, JO's f.5S whiffs completely which is probably one of your quickest moves; sorry, not a frame whore) or backdash to start setting up. Sometimes they'll throw out a 6P or even a 623S if they're that desperate. Usually it's one of the two first options, though. Also, what K2 said-- way too many DB's. I mean, I miss this move's awesomeness just as much as the next player, but you've just gotta let it go, man. Especially if you aren't FRCing! I can't gather a lot about you from just a couple of matches, but I recommend working on your defense (air FDing and even instant blocking) will help you out a lot more in the long run. Try to keep yourself on the ground, also. If you're in the air most of the match, then higher level players are gonna read you like a book and take you down with no sweat. RO: From the looks of it, in the first round you were trying pretty desperately to outpoke him on your wake up. Not a good look, man! It seems you gave that up and just went for blocking, which is a much smarter option. Watch out for that standing dust. It's RO's only overhead outside of TKing his forcebreak. Be careful with knee-rockets. RO players are pretty good at predicting when Johnny will go into the air. Keep your cool and stay on the ground if you don't have meter/don't want to FD rockets. You don't even need to Jackhound rockets-- your 6HS will hit RO just fine. Assuming you're in range, of course. This RO player didn't really command grab you much. Which is something you have to keep in mind. RO can command throw you! So watch for those tick throws inbetween his rocket rush-down.. ...tricks. Also, I wouldn't really risk going for a wake-up OD on RO. It just usually doesn't work what with his 2K and all. Try ODing his standing dust or something laggy. Good luck with that. FA: Haha, you jumped in on this guy a lot and the problem is that he let you! FA's standing kick will keep you in your place, so try not to get too comfortable with doing that. If it works on your friends it's all good, but if you wanna improve, you've gotta keep this in mind and restrict yourself to a stronger ground game. Honestly, I do not play against a lot of Fausts. The only FA player I played recently was Elvenshadow at EVO08, we only played once and I honestly don't even remember how that match went. I remember seeing him do the handslap forcebreak on wake-up which is something you may want to keep in mind also. It was pretty fast and it actually got me. I was looking for it but by the time I realized he had meter to do it, I already stuck out a 2K on his wake-up. Yeah. Overall, I think you've got potential, just like any other player. If you're willing to get a lot better and maximize that potential, then you've got a long road ahead of you. I'm not trying to discourage you or anything, I'm just being realistic. Johnny is pretty crappy, but if you've got the wits and technique (not to mention STYYYYYYYLE) then you should be all right. So up your ground game, polish your mist cancels, hit those FRC's in training mode and practice your defense! Good luck d00d.
  3. Yeah, I know about the crouching hitstun for sure. Hitting people while crouching is usually one of my most favorite things to do with Johnny. Maybe someone can test this blocking thing. render definitely knows what he's talking about 99.99% of the time, though. The 00.01% is when he thought Samuel L. Jackson wasn't in Coming to America. For shame, sir. It's like that with Chun-Li in 3S. I think she recovers quicker from her crouching defense than her standing one.
  4. Damn, I didn't know Johnny recovered faster in his standing guard than his crouching one. render too smart. If you have the tension, you can time it so that you can overdrive through slidehead. You won't hit PO, but at least you'll have enough invincibility to avoid getting knocked down again.

    [AC] Johnny vs Sol

Hah, you would think so but not really. The Sol I play really doesn't use BB unless it's a last ditch effort to close the distance between us and land a hit. After 1 framing, he'll come down with j.P, j.HS > mixup into whatever. Pretty much keeps me on the defensive. I also don't rely too much on my air throws. I tend to whiff them a lot. I think I can probably 6P him on the way down but his j.HS will probably just clash and that's... annoying. Sol match up is fun!

    [AC] Johnny vs Sol

lol, what the Hell? COIN bandit bringer? Such a thought has never crossed my mind. Sounds risky. I like risky. Tell me more. Is it like countering Slayer's j.HS with a coin? I play against a really good Sol player and when he actually does use bandit bringer I just block/instant block. I'm usually unable to hit him right after also because he'll 1 frame jump as a safety precaution right after. With this match, I think you just need to rely a lot more on your defense than your offense. Try not to get too comfortable dashing in this match because Sol is just gonna VORUCANIKKU VIPAH you out of your dash. Best thing about Johnny, though? Jump cancel dash into FD! Psychic block. With some solid defense, you'll find this match to be a little more comfortable.
  7. Haha, Mike Z is awesome. I do play stick, but I used to be a pad warrior back in my earlier days. I could play practically the same me thinks. Man, I really wish some of my matches at EVO were recorded. Especially teams! I had some really epic matches. My greatest performance to date!
  8. render! I have a few AC videos of me. Well actually, it's just one or two. Copied from TGS's Summer Casuals post in the Guilty Pleasures forums. June 28 Casuals (Part 1): http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=1333814372786769740&hl=en Warning: 1 hour long! 9. All right guys. I think it's time to get serious. Here comes Jo with his crazy fucking schemes again. Maybe this'll get this thread pumpin' once more. LET'S REVIVE GUILTY GEAR WITH A SWIFT KICK TO THE BALLS!!! /hype I know how you all miss AI ranbats and how we would just get together, play some Guilty and chill out and well, I think it's been way too long since we had some fun at ARCADE INFINITY. Maybe Ranbats were a little too serious back then-- or maybe they weren't serious enough. How could we cure this? BI-WEEKLY TEAM TOURNAMENTS! At first I was thinking "Maybe bi-weekly team ranbat tournies?" But what the Hell fun would that be? How would you even keep the same team through the ranbat quarter? That shit does not rock, no sir. We could probably have 2v2 teams (3v3 anyone?) to have some mix-up and variety between all players. WHO WOULD PAIR WITH WHO? Who are YOU gonna bribe to get on your team?! I DON'T KNOW!! It would be simple, single elimination just like old times but with teams, I think the competition would be more fun and interesting. Obviously gas is gay right now and our GG scene is seriously lacking (wtf, you're picking up BlazBlue over GG? Better kill yourself) but maybe we can draw people back in with this shit. Hell, maybe it would be possible to convince Ken to switch Guilty Gear to the two 3S cabs at the side (since AI now has SF4.. well.. who needs 3S anyway? Shit was practically barren last night) so we could have more room. I don't know guys. To me, this sounds like an awesome and ULTIMATELY FUN idea. Let's get this BLOOD FLOWING AGAIN! LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU GUYS THINK!! I am down to run things again. A small list of pros and cons: PROS Reviving love of Guilty Gear Ken I back in action Teams for instant fun; plenty of variety gonna go down! Hanging out just like old times, having fun Reviving our tournament scene; possible influx of (serious) singles tournies also(?) SF4 stragglers might consider GG after seeing our HUGE tournies CONS Gas is gay but not as gay as it was earlier this year Ken I back in action SF4 now at AI making for super crowded area AI Parking ...AI Parking .....AfuckingI Parking Talk to me SoCal. So as to avoid confusion-- NO, you don't HAVE to stick with the same team for the tournies. You can switch every tournament if you want. One tourney you'll probably feel like pairing with Mike Z and the next one you'll probably want to pair with Stromlocke. ANYTHING GOES BABY! Cross posted from here: http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=132398&page=111 Post here or at SRK with your thoughts. HELL, POST AT BOTH!
  10. Woo! Question time. Fellow Johnny players, I am seeking a video of awesome proportions. I heard from a friend of a friend of a friend that there's an (AC) Johnny video out with combos that are level 1 exclusive. Anyone know what I'm talking about? I heard there's BIG DAMAGE! Edit: Scratch this, it doesn't exist! Sorry d00ds.

    Improving tips?

I didn't know Johnny could do Jackhound out of MSD. What the fuck have I been doing this whole time? Good games everyone. At least now I've got a better idea on what to practice (when I decide to pull my TV out of my closet..)! The more you know.
  12. Jo

    Improving tips?

I POST EVERYWHERE! I think.. RJH is pretty worth it if you land the jackhound in the first place and you don't have a level 2 yet. It's pretty tough to shake off the Jackhound stagger in time to block the Return Jack since it happens almost right away. Unless you don't want to spend meter which is fine too. You could just follow your Jackhound up with a 5K>2D>Coin or somethin'. It all depends on you.
  13. KUGLER!!!!! Let's fight like gentlemen. Bridget is too awful. Ask Purrin how to use some Bridget. Blitz too. If all else fails, ask Ruu. Assuming he is still alive.
  14. lmao. Fucking MCR. You crack me up. I lol'd IRL. I'll make that bitch play Sol or Ky or something. Someone shitty. lol, Bridget.

    [AC] Johnny vs Robo-Ky

If there's one thing I've learned from playing against Robo-Ky, it's that you can use 6HS pretty generously against him. I don't know if it's just me but 6HS really saves my life in this match-up. It's got such good range and damage potential that I simply can't overlook this move in a match-up. Obviously you aren't going to be mashing out a 6HS whenever you're playing against Robo-Ky but look for your openings. Especially that 2HS! If you have a level 2 and you hit Robo-Ky with a 6HS and counter hit, you can follow up with a good mist cancel combo (6HS, dash, 5K, 5S > 6HS again) etc. You just really have to know your spacing in this match so you can toss out your award winning 6HS, imo. Johnny's solid defense also leads to longer than expected matches so just tough it out! Defense is really important.. I don't even think I try to outdo Robo-Ky's god dashes anymore. Just block. It'll spare you the pain of a miserable running counter-hit > free tension > more dangerous Robo-Ky. The risk/reward in beating RO's dashing attacks is waaay too high in RO's favor for my tastes.
  16. Jo

    Improving tips?

Yeah, I'm not so much of a fan of 2S myself sometimes but the move is there, sooo.. Hah, well in AC Johnny's mist cancels are the quickest at L3 so maybe you'll want to stick around in training mode and keep hitting your cancels as fast as possible. I dunno. It's too bad you're on a pad though, unless you're gonna be switching from using your thumb to using your index and middle fingers to wave dash on a little pad. It'll look like you're playing a Dragonforce song or something. Clutching the controller with both your hands so close together, lol. The image in my mind is ridiculous! Personally, I don't feel that wavedashing is very essential to Johnny but knowing that I have it and that I can execute it just makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Wavedashing is pretty risky as you can dash your ass into some pretty crazy stuff (pokes, uppercuts, etc.) and it's kinda tough to keep the "controlled mash" controlled. Still, doesn't hurt to have an extra card up your sleeve!
  17. Jo

    Improving tips?

Yeah, actually if you're close enough you can do 2K>c.5S>TK if you want or do whatever. 2S sounds like a solid poke to mist cancel>throw. Hrrm, well once you become fast enough, you won't really have to worry about your dashes. I don't know how fast/how proficient you are with mist canceling, but if you really get them down well enough you'll find yourself pressuring with some sexy mist cancel gatlings. Why not try wave dashing right out of your mist cancel? This idea hit render when he was playing Slash. When you mist cancel, you're holding (assuming) K then tapping HS. Why not just hold HS and 66464.. etc. just to tighten up the blockstun? So yeah, there's a good idea if you haven't figured it out already. render's patent pending.
  18. Jo

    Improving tips?

Yo'. Well, your ensenga won't connect. It's not a combo! Unless you get a counter hit, then maybe... but for right now, I'll say it won't connect. It's just some mix-up variety. I bet your opponents have never even seen Johnny's c.S in their lives. Don't forget your throw game! If all else fails TOSS THAT BITCH! Practice makes perfect!
  19. Jo

    Improving tips?

What MissedFRC said! Just practice doing the motion and getting it low enough to hit most of the cast. If you do it too high then you're gonna whiff. Get used to doing a TK ensenga out of a 5K since you can jump cancel it. Players are conditioned to Johnny usually doing an HS or a 2D following a 5K. Just make sure you're doing the Ensenga when you've got meter so you can RC. Also, if you're close enough, you can do Ensenga out of c.5S-- this move is kinda tricky because you have to be so damn close to actually get it out there, but it's jump cancelable also only it's a bit easier to whiff at this close of a distance. Work on it!
  20. Coooooooool. He's a newb at Eddie though, so it'll really take some time for him to get.. good. Still, some practice is better than nothing!

    Improving tips?

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa?! Trouble FRCing on pad? Like qwerty said, you should map your PKS to a trigger-- the bad part about this? You won't be using said trigger (shoulder button) for your DBT/KJT FRC's. I used to be a pad player before I converted to stick. I don't mind either, really but I find I am much faster on stick. There are things I could do better on pad but it's really nothing I can't practice on stick. If you're comfortable with pad, stick with it. You don't HAVE to go to stick. If you want to get more comfortable with the arcade feeling though, get a stick. Anyhow. When I was playing on pad, I found using the mapped FRC button was.. not arcade style. Which is funny since playing on pad isn't arcade style at all. If you use the default setting (P square, K x, S triangle, HS circle, D R1), I found it was a lot easier to tilt my thumb to hit square, x and circle for my transport FRC's back in XX. Soon I was using these 3 buttons for all of my FRC's. Maybe you could do the same. Hope this helps. Keep practicing!
  22. SHORYUKEN IS UP AGAIN! This just in, I may have a friend that is willing to get into Guilty Gear. Might be possible to have him meet up with other players (Line, Lazrael, Ghaleon?) to get him into practice mode? What do you guys think? Get hyyyyyype!
  23. THIS.. IS.. RANBATS! First post edited with VIDEOS now. I know it's Wednesday but better late than no vids. ..Maybe.
  24. Results edited into the first post!
  25. Videos from Friday's ranbats are up. Aaaaaaaaaaaand GO!
