  1. Replies to the "Dizzy outfit" posts Nobody complains when most male characters wear pants but somehow female characters need to wear different things. Dizzy's tail is outside the skirt, not inside. But if they want to stick with her battle outfit, the Vastedge one is more preferable to me with that mini-shorts. Or something like this: http://repair-her-armor.tumblr.com/post/48016037850/ive-always-liked-dizzy-even-years-back-but-ive Venom's outfit may be weird but looks functional yet sexy. Dizzy's leather outfit is uncomfortable and painful to look at, and that kind of thin leather worn on the crotch is awful. Ughh no and yes. ^ Agree with this. Hulk-figure muscles is not objectification on men, it's male fantasy. If you want to see how women draw themselves in "female fantasy" see shoujo with impossible flowy gowns, magic skirts and of course proportionate body sizes. If you want to see an objectified male characters see Nightwing from DC comics and Free! anime where the male characters strip because they're in a swimming team. We've been saying this a long time but people are so quick to dismiss posts like this as "angry feminist" posts, then the argument of "men are objectified too" regurgitated. GGXX:AC has these women I-No, Dizzy, Millia, Jam, May, ABA, Justice, and Baiken. Those bolded ones have panty shots or butt shots. Half of the women. The rest are male characters and why would anyone care if they show some abs. Actually GGxrd is a big improvement and I'm happy. I'm not against sexy outfits overall, big boobs, and "hot" outfits for women, but it's just frustrating and disappointing when people make it appear that male characters are treated the same way as female characters and pretend there's no issue and feminists need to "chill." Anyway, I do agree that I was disappointed with the "Dizzy faint." But maybe it's due to her Gamma Ray that drained her energy (even if she's still standing afterwards.) I hope she has a bigger role in the future and more moments with people outside her family. What I've really wanted is the mini-dress she wore in Overture and Vastedge. That would have rocked. I loved the pony-tail and the clothing pattern.
  2. I do wish that playable Dizzy's outfit won't be that leather stripper outfit but that pretty black dress she's wearing now. Yeah it would make sense if she's able to control her powers now, it would be a great disservice if she's still that frightened girl who begs her wings to stop. Interestingly, Necro and Undine can't function together as far as I know, the only time they move at the same time is when they bicker during her "taunt" move.
  3. Every GG game, Drama CD and novel are canon. They are more or less the same with GGX-GGXX's status: everything happened unless it contradicts the main series: GG1, GG2 and GG Xrd. It's also odd that Daisuke Ishiwatari would draw official art for novels that aren't canon.
  4. I don't know much about BB but I can see some BB fans pissed with some missing info/facts wrong but DB's GG story has also has mistakes and missing points as well. That Man didn't plan the Valentine attack, neither is the rebellion of the Gears his idea. It was all Justice and Mother's decisions. That Man is like an observer that tries to save the world through weird and mysterious means rather than an instigator of doom. In terms of fighting ability they neglected to mention how powerful Justice really is and how it's such a feat that Sol defeated her. -edit- I wonder how much info they got from the GG wiki, it's missing around half of it's ideal content and gets updated at a much slower rate than BB due to the lack of translated materials, few contributors and inactive admins like me who have no copy of Xrd
  5. ^ There's also the consideration that Sol is a Prototype Gear. His potential may be different from Dizzy's and Sin's who both originated from Justice, the first "complete Gear." Dizzy is also capable of using ice, lightning and fire (maybe because of her weird connection to the OutRage) while Sol only uses fire so far. All command-type Gears in the series are also shown to be female so far, I don't know if that's a factor or just a coincidence. Sin hasn't shown other elements other than lightning (although the guidebook kinda confirmed he actually inherited it from Dizzy, not Ky) or a capacity to command other Gears but let's see in the future. You make a fair point on evolution, but I think it's more on adaptation rather than age (or maybe both). Sol likely remains stagnant until he faces stronger opponents. So yeah, if Ragna defeats him, Sol can likely adapt and just get stronger the next time.
  6. I actually have no stand on whether Sol or Ragna would win since I know little of Blazblue, and I do think people are exaggerating Sol's power. In terms of feats the two have roughly the same amount of story material, I'd say even BB has more despite GG being older. However I have to point out some things in your analysis of Sol. "Slayer implicated to be many times stronger than Sol" - nowhere that level. Slayer likes exercise, Sol is lazy, neither are trying to kill each other. Their fights in the Story Mode can't be a basis to say Slayer is many times more powerful. Dizzy has a potential to surpass Sol and she defeated him in one bad ending in GGX. But this is Sol being careless and not removing his limiter. Keep in mind how powerful Dizzy is: in the alternate timeline she's capable of destroying thousands of airships in one Gamma Ray and a whole Mayship crashing into her only made her angry. In Xrd, Justice's Gamma Ray is said to have leveled Japan so at her maximum output Dizzy can fatally damage an entire country (Overture states her power is at least equal to her mother's). The only thing holding Dizzy back is her peaceful and gentle nature. Sol defeated Justice when he removed his limiter. Sol calmed a berserk Dizzy in GGXX without removing his limiter As for That Man, it's either he knew all Sol's weakness and exploits them (like Batman vs Superman) or he's just super powerful. After all, he's been observing Sol ever since. However, he's implied to be a squishy wizard and in the alternate timeline Drama CD, Dizzy is implied to have defeated him and imprisoned him. That Man didn't know about Dizzy at all and was surprised she existed. Sin's display of power is nowhere close to Dizzy's level, not counting his IK (because IK's are not meant to be 100% canonical.) When Valentine controlled him in Overture, he easily lost to Sol. It's also a matter of looking at different types of capabilities. Valentine is capable of rewriting the rules of the GG universe in the backyard, that's why she almost sublimated Dizzy. Sol and Sin would even be sublimated if Izuna didn't interfere. But judging from the story, Sol wins over her in combat. Dr. Paradigm is another squishy wizard with insane abilities, when Illyria castle was being attacked by Gears, it was Ky who was fighting while he saves his Gear buddies by freeing them from control. So yeah, canonically, there are many characters in GG that have the potential to defeat Sol. However, these characters have amazing feats by themselves and unique abilities that may turn fights to rock-paper-scissors. To compare Sol and Ragna, one has to look at the power level of the enemies they defeated or their canonical feats rather than looking at the characters that could potentially defeat them/has defeated them. Yes, maybe Sol can be defeated by Tyr but it doesn't mean he's going to lose to Ragna either. It also doesn't matter to point out Dizzy's and Sin's ages since Gears are designed to be effective weapons, making them incapable of reaching their full potential until 100 is illogical. Sol's age gives him experience but most likely his potential has always been there, he just doesn't want to lose to his Gear nature and made himself as human as possible.
  7. ^ The old one was deleted along with all old threads when the site had an overhaul. It was made in 2009 I think and was an active thread, before Blazblue was released Blazblue threads filled this board. It was an interesting thread with storyline discussion and very civil. It was such a good reference for story facts that I wished I backed up.
  8. The old one was deleted and I think with the new characters in Xrd we should have this discussion once again. Who are the most powerful characters in the STORY? For me in the story so far: S+ That Man (possibly squishy wizard) Dizzy (alternate universe, full potential) Sol Badguy without limiter Slayer (theoretically) Gabriel (Slayer's stated rival, theoretical ranking) S Valentine (Diva form) Justice Dizzy Kliff Undersn at his prime A+ Valentines in general, without transformation Bedman I-No Raven Possibly Ky Kiske in Xrd Potemkin without limiter A Testament Assassins Leo Whitefang Sin Kiske (so far in terms of feats, not his full potential) B Most of the cast B- Opus C Robo Ky ???? Tier: Faust I'm too lazy to put other characters but feel free to post your own speculations.
  9. That's one of my theories that I hope is not true but it's not because of the VA. In the Japanese dub of Overture, Dr. Paradigm called Dizzy a "backup of Justice." In the English version, it was changed to "reproduction." Dizzy is really mysterious. The magic rings in her sprite has a gear symbol, an Outrage symbol and her name. Then she's stated to be half-Gear.
  10. I'm sad I can't find videos of the story mode ;_; Why are they so strict with this thing?
  11. When was shipping about confirmed couples anyway? I don't ship though. The Leo character is interesting for me, and we would probably see the 3rd king in the future.
  12. That's why I put a apostrophe (") and didn't capitalize it, because "white knight" is an accurate term for Ky but something does not encompass his character. What do you suggest then? Anyway back to Ky, he's honestly one of my favorite fictional characters and it's pretty rare for me to see a well written Christian character in a videogame that actually feels like how a real Christian should be, not some caricature or stereotype. But I've always wondered if Ky would choose his family over his principles or vice versa if made to choose between them.
  13. I think this what makes Ky an interesting deconstructed "white knight" character. Certainly he loves his son and Dizzy but he's not just cut out to be a father yet as much as he's not cut out to be a politician. Ky was a soldier, a military leader in his teen years then became law-enforcer. He's used to upholding his strict sense of morals, then the law (his association with Johnny is what I consider putting "good" above the law) and he has no sense of building a happy life for himself. Then he suddenly fell in love and engaged in an "immoral" relationship with a Gear that brought a child out of wedlock. I think Ky would have adjusted if all the political storm didn't happen but suddenly he's thrust into a position where he's owned by both the corrupt government and the public. Not to mention being a Holy Knight he knows how much people hate Gears and how disastrous it will be if Sin and Dizzy's existence comes to light. The best thing Ky can do is do what he does best: fulfilling his duty and protecting people, although this time he lost agency. He acts like a perfect morally upright king to protect the existence of his family but that ultimately killed his fatherhood. You could also interpret it that he simply can't confront fatherhood yet and runs away from it. I don't think Ky ever showed a concern on how people see him, he's always babbling about concepts like justice and hope and fighting for them. But little by little it just becomes more complicated and no matter how good he is in fighting or how dedicated he is to his morals I don't think there's a middle ground that will give him a good outcome. Whether he chooses to spend more time with his family or the public there will be difficult consequences, and in his case, the result is him being a poor father.
  14. Hmmmm Elphelt’s birthday is the same as Dizzy’s and “A kindhearted girl who loves nature and animals” the same height as Dizzy to (168 cm) this is getting fishy
  15. Results: For more detailed graphs, visit the raw results here Important notes: 1. In questions where multiple options are allowed, the percentage is = votes/total voters 2. If I didn’t include the percentage, it means the differences between the ranked items are small or the proportion to the total votes is too small to be considered a majority 3. Options that received the same number of votes get the same ranking 65 Guys 35 Girls 10 Genderqueer/others/no answer Half of the participants are 18-24 years old, making it the average age range of GG fans Most are introduced by GGXX: Midnight Carnival (37%) and GGXX: Accent Core (30%) Most played installments*: 1. Most guys are members of the Dustloop forums while most girls answered through Tumblr Not member of Dustloop: 63% of girls/25% of guys 2. More guys identified themselves as competitive gamers compared to girls. No guys identified themselves as “story fan only.” Competitive gamers: 62% of guys and 17% of girls 3. Girls on average have been GG fans longer than guys Girls average: 7.55 years, largest group is fans for 6-9 years Guys average: 6.14, largest group is fans for 2-5 years 4.In terms of proportion, more girls do fanworks. Mostly there’s no difference in preference of activities* but predictably it’s Dustloop guys who write articles and contribute to archives. Girls - Only 17% doesn’t do anything or answered only “just consume fanwork” Guys - 40% doesn’t do anything or answered only “just consume fanwork” 4. Ky and Millia get more votes from girls while Sol and Slayer tops the ranks of guys. Also, guys find Zato and Dizzy interesting characters story-wise significantly more than girls. (highest to lowest is left to right) Main character: Girls: Ky Guys: Sol, Ky Favorite Character Girls: Ky, 60% Sol 54% Millia 29% Guys: Sol, Ky, Slayer Most complex, interesting, and deep characters: Girls: Sol, Ky, Millia and Testament (tied) Guys: Sol, Ky, Dizzy, Zato-1, Millia Favorite Trio: Girls: Millia/Venom/Zato, Sol/Sin/Ky Guys: Millia/Venom/Zato, Sol/Dizzy/Ky and Frederick/Aria/That Man (tied) 5. All except two girls are shippers in the survey, while 30% of guys have no ships. Top pairings: Girls: KyxDizzy and Solky are tied, each taking 40% of votes Guys: KyxDizzy is voted by 37% of shippers, the next is SlayerxSharon which takes 20% * (examples are essays, translation, cosplay, articles, roleplay, fanart, fanfic, information dissemination, forum administration or event organization for Guilty Gear). Guys like Sol so much that some voted for Order-Sol and Sol at the same time in the favorite characters poll… it’s only counted as one vote though. Contrary to popular belief, there are actually guys who ship Solky, six of them On average GG fans have a fairly positive reception to Blazblue with a score of 6.7 Fans who are around 2-5 years in the fandom tend to give BB higher scores, but the opposite does not apply to long-time fans (their results are varied.) COMMENTS: If you give me suggestions maybe I'll make another one If you give me all gameplay questions you want to ask maybe I'll make another one. Anji Mito and Bridget - I don’t hate them, they’re just my least favorite Sorry for the typos, but yeah it’s difficult to choose I know. Makes the survey more fun Thanks too! I forgot because I never see them interact despite the existence of the said relationship. If they did, it’s very minor. That’s why “others” is in the options. LOL there was one item dedicated on pairings with 4 pages of non-pairing related questions.
  16. I'm gonna try to publish the results next week :>
  17. ^ Well Awe of She is getting so many votes so many in the next survey... if I make one... I could make a poll which versions fans like best. 13 more votes needed. Edit: Some of the survey comments say some of the tracks are repeats... in that case I will just count the vote if it's not voted twice. Then all the "others" in the music section will be counted as long as they have significant numbers that exceed the top votes. If not, they won't have ranks but I'll try to list them all too.
  18. Well nobody's perfect, I made some of the survey questions mostly out of memory and you have an option to put the stage under "others" and it will be counted as a vote. The gender question? I didn't ask for sexual orientation. It's "girl" or "boy" and queer. It's the first time somebody complained when I surveyed around 1000 people in different fandoms, some even thanked me for the option. Can you suggest another list of options then? "Genderqueer is a catch-all term for gender identities other than man and woman, thus outside of the gender binary and heteronormativity." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genderqueer I assumed nobody will vote for both Faust and Baldhead, and I copy-pasted the list so I forgot to delete. And thanks, I'm a researcher myself too and doing this for my fandoms relieves me from stress, although this is not frankly what I do in real life (I'm more on economics.) Well I meant it as who do you think is hot/pretty/handsome. Also: Just 20 more votes needed
  19. Hello, I haven't been active for years but I want to promote this little study of mine. It's a habit of mine to make surveys for my fandoms (Young Justice and Final Fantasy VII) and I realized I haven't done one yet for GG. This is the link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/11ZRocBaAloqedW8aIwocz_eJopGDI1B2WPyWov_Lk-w/viewform You don't need to be a big fan to answer this and you have the option to skip sections and questions alike. Currently it's lacking in gameplay related questions but if this survey is successful, I'll make one focusing on gamers or anything that this survey lacked. I need 50 more participants to publish this, the faster the goal is achieved, the sooner the results will be published.
  20. Damn I reeally need to catch up with the story >_>
  21. Need...to...update the wiki... but too lazy >_>
  22. Yeah I can say they ARE genetically related but that does not equate to parent/child. It could also mean That Man may have been involved in creating both or them. There are some theories that Justice was Aria and she's pregnant with Frederick's child for a hundred of years and decided to finally bring her out when she was defeated as some sort of a backup plan.
  23. Saw your messages in the wiki asking if I have a brain and I need to reply to this again (the Dizzy talk page also has my answers.) Here's the definition of foreshadowing: "Foreshadowing or adumbrating is a literary device in which an author hints certain plot developments that perhaps will come to be later in the story. It is used to arouse the reader, viewer or listener about how the story will proceed and mentally prepare them for how it will unfold." Foreshadowing isn't meant for us to make logical deduction and a conclusion, it's meant to prepare us for a revelation. Sol being revealed Dizzy's father might be foreshadowed or hinted, and that's it. The possibility is there, we are being prepared for it or we are being led into something. We haven't arrived at the point where this mystery is resolved. Mountains of foreshadowing? There are FACTS that we must consider: - Dizzy is three years old in GGX and Sol is 170+ years old. It was mentioned in an interview with Daisuke that Justice was carrying Dizzy when she was imprisoned and we can deduce she hatched an egg (Dizzy is similar with Sin) that incubated for two years before Dizzy was born. - We don't know if Justice and Sol somehow had sex, or if Justice needed a sperm at the first place. This is amusing as Sol was trying to kill Justice for like a hundred years. - Dr. Paradigm called Dizzy "Justice's backup" in Japanese - Dizzy is stated as a half-Gear, half-human. It was never stated she has a father, it's just mentioned she's a product of a union between a Gear and a human. She could be a clone or anything whataver - Dizzy's magic rings rotating at her feet has the following: her name, an Outrage symbol (examples of the Outrages are the Ky, Anji and Sol's weapons), and a Gear mark. So these are all the facts that must be considered in concluding Sol is Dizzy's father. We don't know what exactly Dizzy is, we don't know the exact circumstances of her creation or birth so right now we just have to wait for more info. If Guilty Gear concluded without supplying us with an explanation, then we have every right to make the connections and make out own conclusions... but right now more things are set to be revealed. This reminds me of shipping arguments where "yin/yang symbolism, moon and sun analogy, parallelisms in storylines, jealousy of love rivals, smiling at each other" automatically prove two people are destined to be lovers... errr nope. I BELIEVE Dizzy is Sol's daughter and I want it to be true but right now I'm not calling it a fact. It's simply a fun, plausible theory right now.
  24. I have been part of the fandom for like five years and read every GG thread there is and I honestly never seen anyone claiming GG is "better written." /haven't seen Blazblue threads
