Analysis/Commentary/Review/Discussion of GG's story
danceljoy replied to danceljoy's topic in Guilty Gear General
I don't consider those as elements, because elements should be physical substances with different chemical compositions. And the characters produce those elements out of nothing. If you were to ask me, super senses are either from enhanced and highly evolved body parts. And acting without thinking can be instinctive mechanisms programmed to Gears, or from a long time of harsh training. The manipulation of gravity is a different league. Until now, scientists have no actual facts on how gravity works. We know that large bodies attract smaller ones but we cannot explain why. Gravity is not a visible and tangible material, but it's a form of force. Characters also don't produce gravity, they can only manipulate its effects on their bodies or their projectiles. -
Analysis/Commentary/Review/Discussion of GG's story

Actually this is a very informative article, and I might ask your permission to post some of it in the GG wiki. However this are my comments: 1. IMO Ky died with because of epic injuries, his breathing in the Drama CD sounds like he's coughing out his blood. 2. About the elements, can you elaborate on the Void/Sky and Water elements? I'm pretty sure nobody has yet to show water magic, but there's Dizzy's ice spike and that's water as well. 3. Also, in Sin's story it's revealed that the ability to use a magic element depends on one's genetic makeup. So Ky and Sin possibly can't use anything besides lighting. However, Dizzy can use various elements like fire, ice and gamma particles(light). Assuming that Dizzy is Sin's mom, there's a possibility that he can tap that potential but Sol already stated that Sin's power mostly comes from his father. 4. My theory is that opposes to Magic, Ki is actually healthy and improves physical capabilities opposed to Magic. This can explain how Kliff, who is 87 years old, can transform temporarily into his younger self. -
Of course, but what makes Guilty Gear good is not the same as Blazblue. I'll make a comparison of the story: Character Involvement BB: Most of them are directly involved to the main story, characters that will become more important are foreshadowed. There are many important NPC's (Kokonoe, Relius before BBCS+, and Jubei.) GG: A third them is very important to the main plot (Like Ky, Sol, Dizzy, I-no,) another third are from important factions or places (Millia, May, Robo-Ky, Potemkin) the remaining have minor roles and the random weirdness/abominations of the universe (Bridget, Zappa, Faust.) Universe: BB: The universe is perfect for an anime fantasy, but's it's darker than the average one in terms of situations. Very colorful anime visuals but most characters are in sad situations and have more mental/psychological/fantastical issues. GG: Universe is a twisted fantastical version of reality complete with many mysterious and dark parts, or other words, what happens to our world when we invent magical creatures and they turn against us. Visuals are mostly classic fantasy European or post apocalyptic settings, characters are usually neutral and their issues are more societal/personal/relational. Plot: BB: Cool characters, intense story, sibling love/rivalry, destiny, a very evil government and breaking time loops GG: Weird characters, science and morality, justice, innocence, guilt, life goes on or life just sucks (in a comical way sometimes) EDIT: GG's characters are cool too and BB has it's own share of weirdness Story Progression BB: Very linear, organized, uniform and fast paced. Side materials are for extra appreciation and better understanding. Has Teach Me Miss Litchi, more complete character profiles in-game. GG: Not linear, has lots of gaidens(diversion from the main plot,) quality per game is different. Side materials are essential in appreciating characters and the universe, and a huge part of them is untranslated yet. The GG wiki has decent info but generally it lacks details or it has bad info, you better visit GuiltyGear.ru or read the script themselves, but the scripts aren't available as of now. It needs a new host website. I hope I helped you.

The OFFICIAL Guilty Gear Canon Plotline Q & A Thread
danceljoy replied to Blade's topic in Zepp Museum
About the illustration, maybe it's was just an out of proportion picture, but we can never know. Anyway, in X plus, her design is already shown http://www.guiltygear.ru/images/gallery/ggxplus_sm_so3.jpg I haven't played Isuka, but the relationship chart puts Leopaldon in "Gears" along with Gig and Justice. I'm not really sure myself if Leopaldon is the guy or the Gear... or the dog. But so far I know no info on the armored guy. EDIT: I'm wrong, it's actually I-No who knows Axl from the old times. -

^ There's no official source that tells I-No's age, but still, everybody else is supposed to exist in both timelines (except Sin maybe.) However, there's picture of a very young(she looks like a child) I-No with that Man and his two other servants, but that would be inconsistent with the Drama CD where she's an adult when she met that Man. Also, the relationship chart lists that Axl knows I-No from the old times. In her hating Gears, I think she's just a big racist, or that she seem them as creatures that her master regrets creating. Also, maybe since I-No knows that Dizzy seems to be a very powerful genocidal Gear in hiding, she enjoys bullying her since she know she wouldn't stand a chance against her in the other timeline. It's like you're bullying Daisuke Ishiwatari in a timeline where he's not game creator out of inferiority complex (silly example.) -

I really hope that the next GG will have lots of lots of new info. In speaking of symbolism and themes, Daisuke is really fond of using women. Eddie's IK also has a demonic woman, Paris has female angels, the giant tree at the grove has a female appearance and the stage has angels too. -

^ Agree with the symbolic representation part. The woman with the egg has an oval face while the Maiden of the Grove has a heart shaped face. Also the masterghost has a tatoo visible on her shoulders and thicker lips, while Ky's frozen girlfriend has no markings on her shoulders and normal lips. (Haha girls like me are meticulous with facial features.) And about the Rising Force... there's a woman!? Why didn't I notice her? :psyduck:This makes my friend's fanfic where Ky's Furaiken has a female spirit more plausible *daydreams fanon* -

^ The colored one where he's holding lizard and has something in his mouth. But the picture you showed seems to show Sin in around that age anyway. Also, the egg part really me when I read in the translator. If this is really true and we assume that Dizzy is the Maiden, then Dizzy hatching out of an egg might also be a plausible theory. I tried googling Izuna's and Valentine's but I cannot understand anything. -

I think he's around 10 years old since he's eager to befriend some kids. Also there is an official art of him in that story. I'll post it when I find it. -
The OFFICIAL Guilty Gear Canon Plotline Q & A Thread
danceljoy replied to Blade's topic in Zepp Museum
In the Overture script I believe Izuna explained that Valentine is a creature born from the backyard. She was able to transform into a Justice-like Gear because of Sin's cells apparently. However prior to this she can already influence other magical creatures like Gears and Youkais. Aside from range, all Solaria caused are Gear cells mutating and eating their hosts(humans), Hydra going berserk and Sol having a headache. In Testament's backstory it's revealed that Justice put a "human termination/annihilation program" on all Gears. So it's possible that Gears act like some sort of AI where a Command-Type inputs orders. So Justice having a worldwide range may be true in a sense that Gears will act, possibly independently, as long as the programmer is alive or the orders has been not changed. Also, we don't know if Justice is actually attacking different parts of the world simultaneously since it's been stated that Japan was first. So theoretically, Justice may have a system where the most dangerous race is prioritized. So we can say that China or Korea may have been next since they are more genetically similar to the Japanese, and South East Asia and India may also been next since these are very religious or animistic nations. I actually tried to google translate them and I got some rough information. 1. Ky story briefly describes his romantic relationship with his lover and her pregnancy. The story is more of his guilt and the pressure he gets when he's been informed that he has no choice to be king. It also has some nice info on the GG world, particularly, what's happening to Europe. 2. Sol's story is about meeting Sin for the first time. After Ky introduced his kid to Sol, who is a half-year old but looks like 4 years old, Sol got angry at him and the rivals had some sort of a fist fight. Sin got in between them and tells them to stop because his mom cries when dad gets hurt. Ky's lover is at the scene and in Sol's perspective, we learn that he knows her. 3. Sin's story is about his travels with Sol and that he takes Chimaki with him. They went to Zepp and Sin tries to play with other kids but they made fun of him and removed his eyepatch. When it got removed, the children called him a monster and shortly after a lighting bolt hit the ground where Sin was standing and scared them away. Since I only used an online translator, I'm hesitant to add more details other than these. Ky's story is pretty juicy for a :KY:x:DI: shipper. Since I'm currently working on the GG wiki, I need help in obtaining information. I'm currently writing a Sekishidan article (I'm gonna post it here in dustloop when it's over.) Here are my questions: 1. Was Kliff the first commander of the knight? Or was he just the most successful aside from Ky? 2. Besides, Testament, Kliff, Ky, Sol, the Priest in the Drama CD and the Priest in LtA, are there any other known knights? -
The OFFICIAL Guilty Gear Canon Plotline Q & A Thread

They are not yet translated but the encoded Japanese text is available. Sadly, the site of the compilation of GG materials in unavailable right now. There's no event that shows that it could happen or there's simply to opportunity yet. During the Crusades, Justice is the only known Command-Type Gear. In the Drama CD where Justice is dead, Dizzy is the only one too. Other than those two we have Solaria and Valentine who is actually not a Gear initially. Solaria, a converted Gear can awaken Gears with her singing and has given Sol headaches, but as far as we know, there is no indication in the book where Dizzy is affected. Also, Solaria's singing only seem to affect a small area, town size. We cannot offer conclusions in this case since Lightning the Argent was never translated and we only have summaries. If we assume that Dizzy is Ky's wife, she's been incapacitated(frozen in time) when Valentine brainwashes Gears and Youkais, so we missed a chance to see if they could influence each other. And if we assume that Sin is her son, it may be possible since it is stated that he has inherited his mother's Gear cells since he can also serve as a Key for Valentine. However, his fight with Sol shows that much of his power comes from his father rather than his mother's. So far all Command-Type Gears have been female and there's no explanation yet behind this. We can speculate using genetics since we have what we call Mitochondrial DNA that can only be passed to daughters. But that's just my theory and we all know that GG is MAGICAL SCIENCE! -
Girls do not go to the arcades and play BEU unless she has a BF or pals that play. I don't have either of those. 'Cause it has teh ultra super awesome graphics and it's not sum weird animu. All the testosterone it emits hype gamers. And being popular and selling well are not entirely the same. True, Super Mario has little fanfics/fanarts dedicated to them, but it really sells well. Games like GG and BB makes you get attached to the characters you play through story mode and it's one of its good features (though some don't really care about the story.) I agree that gameplay is the most important thing, but GG has already a very good story and it would be a waste if they would not at least improve on it. All in all what to do with gameplay and what to do with GG as a series are different issues. Yes and it's sad. Well I had a classmate once who loves GG as much as me. He uses and I use but since it's only the two of us it got boring.
-
I want to be as pessimistic as I can about GG, so if the series goes downhill, I'm prepared. :v:If it's better than expected then I'll be very, very happy. Dunno about the American scene but my friends I forced to play GG dropped it in about 10 minutes saying that it's weird, 2D and difficult, then they go back to Tekken 6. And yeah, we need data, I'll try to test it with comparative statics. Everybody has his/her wishlist. If they won't give us those "stupid modes" they should at least make more Drama CD's, novels and stories. That's what I want from GG... and new characters of course, balancing and new features. I care about the story more but I also like playing it.
-
Haha a wishlist eh? I have to agree with what you posted. Many fans do not play the game at all, shooing them away or completely ignoring them is not a good idea. It's the principle of externality, a game with a good story attracts fans, fans who do not play the game promote it through fanarts/fanfics/word of mouth. That's why yahoo messenger, IM messenger is distributed for free, the positive buffs promote the company. Yeah it's true that they need more cash to improve Guilty Gear's story features. But whenever cash comes to mind I remember that Blazblue is is fully featured from the start, and I wonder where they got the budget for it? The past GG games perhaps? Dunno. Anyway, we have to admit that even though BB is a different game, it's a derivative from GG's system. Maybe now, since BB is so popular, GG can adapt it's story-mode features. I honestly think that GG can't beat BB's popularity anymore, but it still has potential to be more marketable than it ever has, especially that BB expanded the market. That's my opinion btw. I think GG can have a "Normal Mode," which is dumbed down and an "Expert Mode" which is the actually the original, but developing this is hard since you have to balance two modes.

Analysis/Commentary/Review/Discussion of GG's story
danceljoy replied to danceljoy's topic in Guilty Gear General
I like to include this info about ABA, but I'm not yet sure where to put it yet. *Sigh* I really wish that I could read Izuna and Valentine's short stories. I bet there's some crucial information there about the GG universe. I tried using online translators but all I get is crap. On the bright side, I got some crude facts from Sol and Ky's stories. -
Hey, I'm not a player, but can anyone post video links of all the maps from GG2? I'm a huge fan of the GG universe so I really want to see those places. So far I've seen Bel Canto Valley, Torioria(did I spell that right) and Ganymede. I would also appreciate it if you include some descriptions.
