[CP] Hakumen Q & A: New players check here first
BladeOfJustice7 replied to Spark's topic in Hakumen
That involves proper spacing so that your opponent can't mash buttons to get you away from them. It's important to know the frame data for his normals as well as their special properties. Like for instance, 6b has always been a great tool for keeping people form mashing especially in CP where you can combo off a CH 6B. The reason that 6b is great for people trying to mash out of your pressure is because it has lower body invincibility. Meaning that it'll beat 2a's and 2b's, coupled with the fact that it's an overhead. A lot fo people assume Hakumen is only gonna go for a grab, but throwing that in, even if it doesn't lead to a CH, you can still have them on edge. Other ways of opening them up is with Agito, preferably 66>Agito since it's I think 0 on block, it allows you to pressure more once you land, or you combo off of Agito if they decided to mash buttons. I'm sure someone can add more detail to this post. But those are just some of the ways, along with tick thorws, once you condition them to be afraid of 6b. -
^Just wow lol. I'll have to test that out but I mean Mugen doesn't have startup invincibility anymore so I guess they had to give it something I guess.

Lol I hear that, if Terumi didn't have that stomp special and stomp super of his, and didn't corpse stomp when he won, I'd probably play him instead. Gonna take some time and get back into the game, I'm still emotionally invested in this character to just drop him. His justice is too high for me to ignore him lol. Why did everyone decide to play him? What drew you to Hakumen, to be more precise with my question.

It's not he punched Ky in that pic, and judging by the second preview which is probably the intro to his IK, it's clearly not Napalm Death, unless they changed the entirety of the lameness that was his old IK. EDIT: has anyone noticed they've been slowly adjusting the HUD of the game like character portraits and the writing style of the word "BURST". -

Makes sense, I thought the same thing. I've been thinking the same thing. Especially since, BB Astrals always lead into separate cutscenes once they are activated where they change the background and at times destroy the stage after doing their Astral. So, if GG were to take from that, it would go to a whole new extent, or it could be part of the GGXrd intro once it drops. I would LOVE to see Zwei Voltage back, or anything new, except not Rising Force again. Most of GGs IK's were lame anyways, the GG1 IK's were, for the most part dope, I don't know why Daisuke/ArcSys dropped the original IK's of Sol and Ky in GGX and onwards... That's ironic but not very surprising at the same time. -
Wonderful well thought out write up, and it sums up my sentiments with regards to this character and each version. Though I never really got to develop my CS1 Hakumen because back then I was just so focused on learning how to play on stick, that I could only perform the most rudimentary of CS1 combos, 35% of the time. So he's about as hazy as #R Ky for me, which means I couldn't if or why he was good or bad, but I could tell if someone was using CS1 Hakumen.

I don't get why people don't like Sol/Order Sol as normal looking characters. Besides the fac that they wear those gear suppressors on their heads and turn into anthropomorphic flaming bipedal dragons from time to time, they are pretty normal looking guys. -
Yea me playing good people from mtl, albeit it's been online, has made me like him less and less. My fav was CSEX hakumen, mundane combos but a good step in the right direction, if Hakumen in CSEX could do CP combos (excluding ODC combos) he'd be what I'd want. Too broke to come buying CP was the last of my resources, which is why I've been job hunting like crazy. CS2 Hkaumen lacked the only thing that CP Hakumen has; ridiculous explosive damage. Otherwise CS2 Hakumen wasn't that bad. That was his main issue. Everyone moved better than him had better neutral/offensive options than him and did better damage, so why use Hakumen. He's main tools are his solid neutral game, amazing defense and amazing damage output. CP Hakumen has none of that, he just has ridiculous damage output, kinda like CT Hakumen, except CP Hakumen was less ways of getting to deal all of that damage. So you're usually dead before you can even hit them, since you have no way fo getting in, or keeping them out. I really love CP Hakumen taking cues from CT Hakumen in all honesty when it comes to combos, hard damage and fairly simple to deal. The only problem CS2 Hakumen had, is the only thing CP Hakumen has going for him, explosive damage. They're polar opposites lol. No fighting game has ever given me trouble finding my color palette :3 I enjoyed CSEX the most and I'm REALLY not enjoying CP Hakumen as much as I didn't enjoy CS2 Hakumen.

Don't worry, by the time the game comes out on consoles, these puns would've been put to rest. -

That was because GG was unable to fit any extra detail in the sprites in earlier iterations. But yes you are right about that, only Ky Sol and Robo-Ky. I mean even now you can see HOPE and FREE written on their beltbuckles in actual gameplay. That's revolutionary :o The extra writing he puts on characters is always some heavy intellectual stuff, so I can't wait to see what's written on them like "Heaven created man for its own reason. Men respect men for their own sake". Or That Man's word being PROTEUS, like how it is with HOPE for Ky and FREE for Sol, or even Sin with OATH and Raven with LIVE. They all have some sort of intellectual meaning behind them.. With that said I'll probably buy the Xrd illustration book or wtv when it inevitably comes out. -
You've always been the offensive Hakumen player, so I thought you'd like the name changes, especially Agito. This pretty much sums it up for me, which is why I'm forcing myself to like him. It's a huge irritant when my characters average neutral must be relied on against characters who have much better neutral games, and inevitably get in on my and I don't have the adequate defensive tools to ward them off. Characters can literally go to town on him because ALL of his defensive options are so gimped and can only really win decisively through a gimmicky flow-chart playstyle. I do praise them for his new combo routes, albeit they need to be more fleshed out. I learned them in a few days, but what's sad is that 85% of Hakumen's real combos are based on how you can ODC and do OD combos and fit in as many shippus as possible in the corner. Which is not what OD was intended for. But his combos, though, limited allow for a bit more creativity and also simplicity at the same time. I've grown mostly disenfranchised playing against good players using stronger cast members. I agree with this, and it hasn't taken long to realize how there are MUCH stronger characters than Hakumen in the cast. If he wasn't this badass Samurai advocate of justice/virtue/bushido, I'd have stopped playing him by now. Very true. #FuckRelius #FuckKokonoe #BuffValkenhayn2014 EDIT: If you think it's about missing "CSEX damage" then you're missing the point of what I or anyone else has been saying. Not trying to be mean or anything.

I actaully enjoy playing Terumi and Ky from GG more than Hakumen at this point. Surprised you agreed, and one should NEVER use 3c against Kokonoe, her 3c can punish it for free no matter how she blocks it. Your post isn't stupid, subs are the best way to make a game fresh and fun. Which is why I've been playing Terumi since I got the game. It'd probably main him if he wasn't so evil, had a lack lustre midscreen pressure game, and his counter super caught all physical attacks. I'm curious what your thoughts on CP hakumen are, care to share? Play a good Kokonoe, Valkenhayn, or Relius and get back to me on that. Landing 7.5k is fun, my problem is that he has to rely on those gimmicky OD opportunities to win more or less. The less likely he is to get those opportunities, the more he struggles. Don't get me wrong I'll still play him, and I don't want to discourage newer players from playing him. I just don't enjoy playing HIM, but the game overall is very fun. He's just really a lopsided one trick pony character at the moment. Unless Spark or any high level Japanese player can show me some amazing gameplay that shows me otherwise. But at this moment this is how I feel, but I own the game and want to continue to help the Hakumen forums proper for newer players.

Wow sounds like he was stupid strong in #R, and AC Eddie was heaven sent when compared to his #R iteration. Was Zato also amazing in Slash? These puns, they cannot be stopped... -

Thanks, is AC or #R Eddie stronger and by how much, just to get a better perspective on how strong he was in #R. -

This. Also, could someone explain to me what's the difference between #R and AC/ACR Eddie? I never really played #R seriously, so I'm fairly curious about why everyone is so afraid of Eddie if he's based on his #R version, when he was already amazing in AC. -

Yes, these puns/jokes, all of them... More likely Valentine II, they were talking about someone with a bounty, That Man doesn't have a bounty. And Sol called the person a kid "gaki", He's never referred to that man in such a manner. But I honestly doubt it'll be either of them, it's probably some new threat. -
Lmao, I'm not gonna drop him. I have very strong character loyalty to him, but it's like they took away what made Hakumen for the last 4 games and just gave him a really strong gimmick. Your ability to use Hakumen and to win is based on how well you can use that gimmick. If it wasn't for this gimmick (OD) he'd be a run of the mill character. I've come to realize that without getting the chance to use this gimmick he's a helpless puppy most of the time, the character that can keep him out (since he has to get in more) and get in whenever they want (because his counters are shit) are his worst matchups. Because they prevent him from using his gimmick, once that happens he struggles to get in and get real damage output on the opponent. If they literally left 6d as a frame 1 action counter, he'd struggle less in his uphill matchups. But they didn't give him enough tools, particularly defensive ones to deal with characters that have powerful lockdown tools. Anyways I'll continue to play him, because he's still too much of a badass. @mAc, no I just wanted to play you to see how you use CP Hakumen is all.

I do NOT like CP Hakumen in any way whatsoever. I'm literally forcing myself to play him at this point.

Same shit different toilet, my point is they're canonical one way or another. Like how Arakune dies or nearly dies in every BB story? Anyways, I'm surprised that at the frequency of the location tests. I'm anxious to see Ky's 3hs. It's also interesting to note how ArcSys has become less hostile over youtube videos containing their property since CP dropped and the last loketests. The loketests are still up on youtube, and so are the CP tracks. I doubt we'll have to be as covert as before when posting up loketest videos this time around. -
5d/2d>A, assuming it's an FC doesn't require you to j2c>5b, you can go straight into j2c>2c or j2c>5c, landing the FC enma provides with a lot of untech time to follow up the hit. Going for a second loop requires you to have more strict timing and you might be allowing the opponent to juggle too low or too high in the air to follow up the combo. As far loops go, that depends on your starters, check out Spark's OP in the CP Hakumen Q&A thread for more information, since his explanation is a lot more clear cut and quantifiable. If you guys have any more questions like this try posting it in the Q&A thread so you can more effective responses from fellow Hakumen players. This thread is just for discussion about matches and etc, and general thoughts on the character and CP really.

If you've been playing a character in a game for several years, a new version should make no difference. It's just really a slight learning curve for the new mechanics introduced into the game and the new tools your character received. Otherwise you already know how they should be played and how to use their tools effectively. It's not that Xrd will be using the Playstation Move or Kinect for the first time ever, it's just a new game. For the characters that transitioned into Overture (Ky, Sol, and Dizzy) their endings in AC+ go right into Overture, and Xrd takes place after Overture. So yes, the endings are canonical. I assume you mean Baiken... Anyways, I don't see characters like Jam (the staple Chinese stereotype characters), Johnny (Zoro with extra swag sauce), Baiken/Bacon and Anji (there\s a japanese stage so you need the Japanese characters to come back) to not be in the initial release of Xrd. Someone like Order Sol I see as DLC, since it's an easy way of stealing money from people like Titanium Beast, and other Order Sol lovers. -

This is why I'm glad I main FG protagonists, they always get confirmed in the initial release. The moment I saw Ky they already ravaged my wallet to the point of monetary sodomy. If Madcatz comes out with a stick for this game, I'll probably buy that too, and an inevitable limited edition version of this game. The more is released for this game the more poor I already feel, and I'm already poor thanks to CP. On topic: I don't think I'd enjoy Ky's son Sin, for instance, even if he played like Ky if they opted to not put Ky in the game initially like in Overture. I only really enjoyed Overture when I got to use Ky, and I only moderately enjoyed using Sin and Sol. But I still played the game. Yes Sin, doesn't play like Ky, but I have extreme character loyalty, I don't think many are as extreme as me when it comes to character loyalty. When I saw Ky in GG back on '06, I didn't even bother to look at the rest of the cast.
