To my knowledge, the only move that can hit them meaty off a 22x oki set up is 2AB. If you do it right, they can't jump out of it.

Every fighting game has very mindless play at the lowest levels. Auto combo mashers really are not that big of a deal. DPs are strong in this game, but at the lowest levels of play, they don't mash DP, they mash A. This is really no different than baiting ice cars all day in CT, baiting hell's fang all day, etc. You can (potentially) get a fat CH combo off of those baited DPs anyway. If you're worried about losing to randoms, and are actually losing to randoms more than you think you should be, you're probably not as good as you think you are.

You can consistently punish Yosuke's DP by simply jumping over him, turning around, and doing j.C. I find this a lot more reliable than timing other punishes, and you get a nice FC combo. If you can't jump over him (he's in the corner or something), you can just do a normal j.C on him, just have it hit him in the chest area.

[P4A] Kanji Tatsumi Gameplay Discussion "Brofisting is in!"

@AXIS: Cool, I'll check them out later today. @Koopa_Klawz: Yea, my bad, Circ did mention earlier that 5B-2B will combo against airborne opponents, but they need to be pretty close to the ground and it has to be spaced properly (i.e. incredibly impractical in a real match). I was curious about the FC thing though, and I think in those situations, they're either in a crouching state or very close to the ground (while airborne), which would fit the conditions above, and don't necessarily make FC unique situations. For example: FC 2C-5B-2B doesn't work on a standing (the 2C fatal forces stand with the little twirl animation) opponent, but FC 2C-2B-236B-2A-5B-2B does work, and it meets the airborne condition stated. If you can think of a situation that defies this though, that would be cool. -

This is getting a surprising amount of inquiries, I thought it was already nipped in the bud, but here's a quick summary: -5B only combos into 2B when it's a CH or against crouching opponents. The CH timing is easy, so instead, I'll talk about the crouching version. Since 5B has so little hit/block stun (seriously, look at the blue bar under your damage and see how fast it goes down), in order for it to combo, you MUST cancel into 2B immediately after inputting 5B. This makes it virtually impossible to hit confirm, so you want to use 5AA-2A or something like that beforehand, or be absolutely confident that you're going to hit them crouching. -5B 214C is actually pretty easy. What you're doing is canceling your 5B into 214C, and that doesn't work, that's why you're getting 5C come out instead. Wait half a second and then input the 214C for the tick setup. EDIT: Oops, guy above me beat me to it. -
Having the hardest time learning to block moves correctly

I was really tempted to do a troll response to this post, but I've decided not to. Record your matches with the in-game save feature (I'm assuming you're playing online). Watch the matches. Identify the areas where you are getting hit. Note these down. Go into training mode. Use the recording feature and recreate the blockstrings that you got hit by. Figure out how to deal with it (blocking correctly, not jumping out, invincible super, DP, etc.). Just repeat this process and you should be good. -

If they're out of range, then you didn't move far enough forward. I never had issues with them being able to tech if my 5AA was successful though, the only issues I encountered was the 2nd 5AA series yellow-beating or the 236C completely whiffing. If it makes you feel any better, I can't do the combo consistently enough to use it in match play. If I could though, I definitely would in the right situations. Also, what is this about frame data tables? I want to see this. -

The trick to that combo is to walk forward a little after the OMB. As for whether or not it's worth it, well, that depends on the situation. It's one of your better (practical) damage options off a 5A starter and isn't meter reliant, although it does burn your burst up. It also does set up a wake up game. EDIT: Also, the dmg output is wrong, it's supposed to be 3342. Additionally, don't let them hit too close to the ground with the 5C, otherwise the 2nd 5AA series won't combo. -
[P4A] Kanji vs. Mitsuru: Her coat's better. :<
Siefer replied to Circuitous's topic in Kanji Matchups
This is a pretty bad match-up. The only viable Persona attack at neutral are the Ds, but only at mid or far range, and even that requires some yomi or catching them in their recovery animation. All of her buttons beat yours, your only other viable attack is j.B, but it has to be spaced well. Uh, if you can knock her down, get the most out of it and hope for the best, that's pretty much all you can do. You need to capitalize on her mistakes and get the most out of wakeup games, which is a lot harder than it sounds. EDIT: There is a nifty trick I saw Lich do against LK though. If you predict that they will DP and then Bufudyne right after, you can 214D. 214D will go right through Bufudyne, recover before Mitsuru does, and you have enough time for a 5B CH. If you time it just right, you can just have the 214D catch Mitsuru in recovery frames and go from there. The trick for the latter involves slightly delaying the 214D. -

If you're going to spend meter, you're better off doing a lot of damage or setting up a wakeup game (preferably both). Unless it's going to kill, I think that typically isn't a good usage of meter. What you're proposing sounds pretty gimmicky because it not only uses meter, but it's escapable too. That's just my opinion. -

Hm? I was under the impression that you couldn't backdash on wakeup? If you're trying to catch jumpouts, wouldn't 5AA be a much safer alternative? -

It was fun meeting some new people in Persona today at Red Bank. GGs to everyone I played. Lord Knight made me sad, I'm going to cry in a corner now. -

You mean j.214A/B right? There is no such move as j.214C/D. Is there any benefit to doing walk back 5D v. walk forward 2D? I've been doing walk forward 2D except for the times where they are too far away (in which case I have to do walk forward 5D). -
Uh, just by waking up after a HKD in general, they don't have any offensive options...only defensive ones (DP/Jump out/Quick Escape/Super/etc.). It doesn't matter, I figured out how to make it work. 22B is better mid-screen followed by a meaty normal, the 22X moves alone aren't enough for oki.
-
Err, I'm sorry, that doesn't answer my question in a helpful way. Can you elaborate on that?
-
I have a question on Labrys' oki, well, more specifically, what is the point of it? Let's say I do 5A-5B-2AB-22A. My opponent can tech and jump out of the oki setup. Sure, I can air throw them, but if they tech the air throw, it just resets us back to neutral and I ended up doing less damage than I could have through another combo. Is there something I'm missing here?

214C/CD, 5D/2D depending on where you are on the screen. You may have to walk forward a little. -
Labrys is cool, almost as cool as Kanji. I will play her.

Those swag combos are too good AXIS, I must learn and use them all. -
I don't really think anyone considers her "weak" in the absolute sense, but rather the relative sense. It's not that she's weak individually, it's just that compared to the characters above her, you have a harder time winning for various reasons.

GGs to anyone I played today!
