Frosty Faustings III (GGXXAC, SSFIV, and more!) Chicago IL. Jan 8th 2011

Less than 24 hours to go! Any last minute requests? All I can offer is VGA kits for the Xbox 360, possibly two 19" ViewSonic monitors (ya, that's not the best way to play, but..... they're portable? ), maybe some joysticks for the 360, a fat PS2... Really nothing good to offer..... I'm in Lombard, so if someone needs a ride and is within the path of that... I suppose I could grab a few people if absolutely necessary. -
Do you mean Game On Grafix? http://www.gameongrafix.com/ I shot them an email in regards to these two cabinets and got a quick, "Sorry, we've got nothing in the archives for this." If I was going to order a custom marquee... I thought it might be cool to get some Dustloop artwork. I can find random Guilty Gear/NAOMI/HnK artwork all over the internets.... but I thought maybe someone from the talented pool of dustloop's Zepp Museum might want to see their art on a cabinet.

For the life of me.... I can't find marquees for my cabinets. I'm looking for an HnK (Fist of the North Star) marquee for an Atomiswave (NOT the SD version - the woody), GGX or even Isuka. For my Dynamo HS-5 Standard, I'd enjoy some Dustlooper artwork for the standard marquee, control panel and side art. Any leads on finding the artwork or some good, reusable fanart for either of the above would be greatly appreciated. Also, if anyone suggest a Vinyl/Marquee/etc print company - let me know!

Just mash 2A.... I'll probably get another copy of the NAOMI version soon. It's a ton of fun - make sure you find a good reference (are the dustloop archives still available?). In a nutshell - The magic spark is very similar to KoF XII or an AC Slashback, there are no cross-ups and any special can be EX'd by doubling the inputs (ie 22B becomes 2222B). If you want to get hype check Youtube for the Current Code videos. A new Melty Blood running on a RingWide in high def. GGA has a copy of MB:ACA but I don't think it's in a cab.... yet. -

I'll be dragging the wife along. She digs some fighters but prefers TvC over any of the titles we'll be playing. ElvenShadow - I don't remember committing to play but I see a Supa listed under Accent Core. Is that me? Just want to make sure - I'll definitely be there and have my eye on locking down 35th place. I'd like to see more love for Melty Blood...... -
You are indeed correct. I checked it out tonight while I was there. Like I said... there's a perfectly good 3S machine next to it that makes SSFIV not worth playing. But I did try it once just to find out - and you are indeed correct. The GGXX machine that's set up in the back is a little disappointing, too. The screen is lousy and the P/K buttons are swapped.

The most comfortable one. End of discussion. Seriously, though, if you're really struggling.... my own personal preference (everyone has a different one, I'm sure) is somewhere between Monkey and Wineglass. I play on, and own, bat-top style joysticks on wooden arcade cabinets. I don't remember who/what video names it Monkey and identified it as the "defacto way to play on battops" but I've used the grip since I was like... 10... long before Candy Cabs were mainstream and everything (minus Pacman) was a bat top. I completely agree with whoever made that video and named it Monkey. Wineglass.... you should be familiar with. It's literally everywhere. Watch some EVO matches or something. Nearly everyone uses this grip now with a varying degree of hand rotation - some people play it similar to the orientation you would have with the Monkey grip above... some people rest all of their knuckles on the control panel. Either way you go - the important part to remember is to make it comfortable and accurate for yourself. Keep in mind that Sanwa sticks will have their microswitches engage just barely a millimeter of movement. After some practice... try to keep the joystick from hitting the gate. New players on joysticks always like to try to ride the gate - don't. For buttons... you'd do yourself a favor if you learned to play with 3 fingers between the two rows of buttons on your joysticks. BlazBlue will make you want to use D with only your thumb, but if you also plan to play other games (like Street Fighter) you're going to kinda gimp yourself if you're trying to hit the bottom row of buttons with only your thumb and pinky.

Eh? You tried to play BBCS on the PS3/Arcade rig at GGA and there was noticeable display lag? I've never touched that machine - there's a perfectly good 3S machine next to it that just makes SSFIV not worth playing.
-
We could probably get the GGA crew to replace that SSFIV PS3 with BBCS, or like you said, use the back rooms. BBCT on the Taito X2 wouldn't really be worth driving to play.... :\

The easiest and most portable are the Atomiswave (GG Isuka, GGX1.5, HnK, The Rumble Fish 2) and System 246 (Basara Cross). I'd rather not bring the entire cluster!@#$ that is a NAOMI - if they already have a NAOMI with GD-ROM there, I wouldn't mind bringing the GD-ROMs for X, XX, #R, Slash, ^AC, Senko no Ronde. The least convenient is Arcana Heart 1 - which I don't think anyone wants to play, anyway, but it's a really flakey board and requires a VGA monitor. Don't have AH2 or AH3 - system is too damned expensive. I think I can get a Taito X2 for cheaper than most people want for an ex-board. The offer is out there and it sounds like ElvenShadow got the green light for some of the stuff. If anyone wants to play any of that on a cabinet just let me know. -

I understand the console reasoning. That's cool. The rest is up to you - atomiswave HnK, NAOMI Senko no Ronde or ^C...... just let me know in advance or I'll only be bringing me. -
Someone come scrap with me on the NAOMI. ..... I've got zero confidence in myself for Frosty Faustings 3.....

Someone mentioned GGA - this was originally going to be at Galloping Ghost Arcade? Or does GGA stand for something else.... He's got KoF XI, Melty Blood ACA, GGX (or XX?). Too bad you guys don't want to play on cabinets - I'd be glad to loan out any Guilty Gear Arcade title, HnK, Senko no Ronde SP to Galloping Ghost or Nickel City (as long as I get them back! ).... I've also got a couple of Atomiswave commcards if we wanted to get silly with 4 player-2-cab Isuka..... -
Add me on the list for Lombard. I've been playing more GGAC than BBCS lately - I was really hoping they'd launch the balance patch with Valk, but it seems that's delayed for quite some time.... If BlazBlue is seriously your first fighter - you have a lot of catching up to do! Hit up gamestop or ebay for some great old titles like The Rumble Fish, Melty Blood, Fist of the North Star, Arkana Heart, Rival Schools......
-
This and the Chicago thread seem too dead.... Galloping Ghost has Melty Blood AC and I think GGX - http://www.gallopingghostarcade.com/ Not sure if he has them in machines yet.... Ton of fighters to play there if you haven't been and you're in the 'burbs. I've got HnK and all the Guilty Gears here in the Northwest Burbs.
-
I was under the impression there were slight differences between AC NOAMI and AC/AC+ console. I couldn't tell you what they might have been, though. :\
-
Sorry, I've got some A.B.A. noob questions... First and foremost, I'm playing on a NAOMI so I'm not sure if there's a difference between A.B.A. on my version and the one Moroha's video was posted on. Which version is that? AC+? At 1:01 there's a jHS that floors Chip. Why? I can't seem to reproduce that. Herpderp, Counter Hit floors. I didn't see the COUNTER HIT banner, though....? In the same combo, there's a jS jHS jD 41236S rejump jS jHS jD 41236S loop. I can't reproduce this, either. Herpderp x 2 - don't practice BnB char-specific orbs on characters I already knew it didn't work on. Thanks for the video. I recede from asking stupid questions I should be able to answer myself. I blame it on the overwhelming awesome of Moroha's video.

Why haven't I looked here before? Northwest 'burbs. Accent Core if you don't mind playing on a monitor. HnK, GGX, Isuka on a cab.
-
Ya, that was my first impression, too.... but it's not as hard as it seems. The Computer players are always on the same team, so they won't attack each other.... unless they land hits by accident. So make sure to keep one of them sandwiched. Doesn't work with Potemkin, though, he won't accidentally throw the other CPU player, but he'll connect with other stuff. If you've got the PS2 version with A.B.A., the game is a whole lot easier..... I beat it with Jam. That was , especially with 236S being all sorts of unreliable (which way am I facing?!@$) and 623K not always lifting correctly.

For the older systems and PCBs (MVS, PGM, CPS, Titan, etc) all you need is an upscanner to go from 15k RGBS to 31k VGA. You can get a chinaware upscanner for about $50. Systems like the System 246/256, Atomiswave, NAOMI, etc run at 31k VGA native - a supergun at that point is just connecting a joystick to it. A JAMMA loom is easiest and costs about $10 - you can wire it right into a SFIV TE stick if you wanted to. Great time to get into the hobby - ebay has had a few complete NAOMI GD-ROM sets (system, gd-rom, cables, audio amp, jvs, Sun PSU, etc) go for ~$300.
-
Holy crap. Really? Ya, that pretty much finishes it. Clearly, successful qwerty troll was successful. You go enjoy your own weaboo rants, kid, I'll be over here playing the arcade versions on real joysticks in real cabinets in real arcades with real wooden cabinets, real Net City's, real control panels and real competition. And measuring things in real units of measurement and testing force with something other than my lap. Lock, burn, sage, destroy, Marvelous Fatal K.O. this thread.
-
.... the need to put more cash into Aksys/Arc's pockets to try to get Guilty Gear back from License Limbo. Not to mention Guilty Gear, Hokuto no Ken, Basara Cross and the whole Arc family of fighters.
-
Yes and yes. I'm still saying a pad has it's advantages in total agreeance with mr.mortified - saying "My uber joysticks activates when I drops it and has sweet big buttons from Japans!!111" doesn't make it better. It's completely up to the player - who may prefer having harder to press buttons or a pad layout for whatever various reasons. But ya, since this thread isn't actually here to be objective or on-topic and is only here so people can call others "pad scrubs" and debate their own debate skills - I vote for a lock. And purge... and burn it with fire.
-
I thought the same thing - it seemed pretty innovative and neat. I've only ever seen one Isuka cab in my life (not counting mine) and it didn't have any way to support 4 players. The actual system can support 2 "locally" (ie harnessed to the control panel along with an IO card card and harness for the other 2) or network play ala modern candy cabs. Seemed pretty spiffy to me. It has it's severe flaws (turning doesn't always seem logical, some knockdowns and specials turn you while others don't.... it's a bit tricky to predict at first) and it seems the background/foreground play has no real relationship to the actual match. :\
-
Finally... beat that damn thing.... So there is no logical tier or order of people you have to win against - once the level (top left of the screen) hits 100, you fight Leopaldon. Meteor things are infuriating and randomly suck away or gives you (?) full tension. That leaves only Slash and ^C to go.....
