[CPEX] Celica A. Mercury Gameplay Discussion Thread
Raidhyn replied to Grimsley-San's topic in Celica A. Mercury
Hey Surf, thanks for all the information, was really great to read. Slight note: Watching you play Celica at CEO was part of why I decided to pick her up. Too swaggy. I'm curious to know though, what do you all use for your pressure string in the corner? I've been doing 5B > 5C > 3C > 5D, 6D, 6D back into a 5B to try to bait 2A/2B punishes and it works out against some of the cast but I'm sure there's better pressure options. Any suggestions would be very appreciated as info on pressure strings usually isn't kicking around. -

Well I'm happy to post here so it's not dead! I picked up Celica a couple weeks ago when I grabbed CPEX and I can not put her down. She's really fun despite a few shortcomings. Just finding out that I can combo from 5C into Astral is enough to make my day. Not to mention that once you get some of her counter hit combos down she can deal really good damage just about anywhere on the screen. If anyone ever wants to play just let me know. -
Can someone suggest three basic combos (midscreen, CH, corner) for players new to Bullet? Been thinking about picking her up but not entirely sure where to start or what's considered optimized.

[CPEX] Celica A. Mercury Gameplay Discussion Thread
Raidhyn replied to Grimsley-San's topic in Celica A. Mercury
It seems like Celica doesn't have a lot of love right now. :/ I spent sometime with her last night and it seems a big part of the reason people don't like her is because she doesn't have any safe blockstrings off her drive which is where most of her mix ups come from. Additionally she seems to be negative on almost everything so I can see why a lot of people don't consider her viable. However the Rainbows and Robots drive button is making me wanting to play her still, so here's a couple of things I noticed. Keep in mind, I'm pretty casual as far as BB is concerned, so don't expect this stuff to work at high level play. From playing last night I figured out that 6A is really gimmicky because it hits High / Low. If your opponent is doing a bad job at blocking this you can abuse it quite a bit. In the corner you can 2A into a combo although the time is a little tight. Elsewhere you can RC and go into any combo string off a 2A. Her drive buttons come with built in mixups, but you can also use 236B for an Overhead. I don't think it's safe on block, but using this after a blocked 5B - 5C was pretty useful. If your opponent likes to run in at you with an attack (i.e. every Terumi / Ragna) you can double jump and j.D into 5D-5D-5D for decent damage. Her j.C is a pretty decent air-to-air but I haven't found a lot of options off of it. Is her 236C a true DP? I want to say it is as I was able to wake up counter-hit off of it a few times. Still learning the counter hit followups but it seems like you can do a lot off of it based on all the combos listed in the combo thread off CH 236C. It also works as an anti-air but isn't completely reliable as the hitbox seems to have pretty low active frames. Could just be cause I suck tho. She is super fun to play though. I'll probably stick with her for a while and see if I can't improve my game at all. She seems like she wants to be played as a rush down but just doesn't have a lot of good blockstrings to do that with. If anyone has any advice for Celica pressure that would be great to hear. -

Just getting back into BB with CPE coming out on PS4...Pervious iterations of the game I've played Hakumen and Ragna primarily but have dabbled in most of the cast. Thinking about picking up Celica because I'm always attracted to low-tier characters. (Heard one of the CEO commentators say she was trash, instant attraction) Can someone provide a kind of sum-up on her strengths / weaknesses / playstyle? Maybe give me some suggestions on where to get started with her? -
Thanks cookie! I'll add you when I get home tonight after an EVIL day at work.

For people like me who are just picking up Mokoto which Combos should I be focusing on first? Can we get a BnB list or "learn these five first" list?

PSN ID: Raidhyn Locale: NA - Chicago Hey guys, I'm trying to get back into BlazBlue and am in serious need of someone who's willing to spar with me consistently. I've been out of the BB loop since right around when CS1 came out but I'm working on getting my chops back while picking up a new character. (leaning towards Mokoto or Platinum right now since they're polar opposites of the old Rags/Hakumen combo I played before) Just looking for someone who's willing to workshop with me and give me some feedback and constructive criticism while playing a ton of games. If anyone's interested let me know. =) The same offer is out there on my end for any newer players who are looking to practice and improve.

Hey guys my name is Raidhyn on PSN and Dan if you meet me in person. I'm just trying to get back into Blazblue and now that I'm set up in Chicago I'm hoping to find some other local gamers to play/train/hang with. If any if you guys are on PSN I could definately use a sparring partner. I player CT a ton back in the day but had to take over a year and a half off due to some life changes. I get along with everyone so hit me up!
-
Hey guys, I haven't played since the original BlazBlue came out due to some life changes and other nonsense. I just picked up CSEX or whatever it's called and am looking forward to working on combos and getting back in the scene. I was a pretty consistent Ragna, Hakumen, Taokaka player before, are there any huge changes in the game I should be aware of? Is online play in NA going strong? Anyone in Chicago playing this game? Really looking forward to getting re-involved in this community, I missed the hell out of this game and I know my Hori3 is glad to be dusted off and out of it's box again. =)

As someone who is planning to main hazama this coming July I think a dedicated combo thread / combo discussion thread would be very helpful.

Mike Z...can't you and your CS Arcade Machine travel to Germany for a week or two? I have a spare bedroom?

Any advice for the 2.C > SJC j.2C? I'm having serious issues getting the super jump to come out. What do you guys use for it? I'm on a stick btw...

Fighter mentality is similar to any kinds of competetive gaming: Win at all costs. In addition to that though, fighters require endless amounts of practice. Where other games rely more on instict and reflexes, fighters are about being able to react in the correct way within a seconds worth of time. You only have three matches to read your opponent etc. etc. Train, train, fight fight, grow stronger. Just think shonen anime

Hey guys, i'm trying to pick up Litchi as a new sub because i really enjoy how she works when playing against other opponents. Lots of Matenbou mind games =). I'm having troubles with her combos though, can someone suggest a couple BnBs for me to start with?
-
Thanks for the info MadRhetoric, I'll be working on that when i get home to combo-workshop tonight. I think Hakumen is a great character and I've had nothing but respect for the people who I've fought against online who have used him.
-
Hey guys, I'm looking at picking up Hakumen as my next sub since for me BB becomes a like-new experience whenever I pick up a new character and start learning them. Hakumen was the first character I ever played the game with but I ended up putting him down for someone a bit easier (read:Ragna) while I was learning mechanics and such. Was wondering if you had any advice for where I should start first combo wise? What are like three or four BnBs I should work on first?
-
Thanks for the information guys it's much appreciated, I'll definately have to practice some of these combos. One question I also had was about a problem I have sometimes. I have my training dummy set to tech as soon as possible so that I don't end up practicing wrong. Sometimes when I 22C it's easy for me to connect with 5B... afterwards, other times he tech recovers from the stagger state too fast. Is it because I'm messing up the 22C? Do i have to do it faster? Slow? Or am I just not getting the timing for the 5B follow up right?

So I know how it is here on Dustloop about needlessly creating threads but...I think that Ragna's 22C deserves from special attention. I for one am trying to figure out the rules to how it works and some of the BnB combos that are used in conjunction with it. As far as I can tell (correct me if I'm wrong) you can only use 22C if your opponent has been knocked to the ground either with a 2D or 3C. As to combos the only one that i've been able to get consistently is the (near corner) 5B, 2B, 3C, 5D (DC), 6A, 5D, 22C combo. The others are eluding me. How do you use 22C? It seems to be unaffected by proration but again I'm not 100% Anyone care to expand on this?

I agree 100% with what you said Final. It'd be nice to know what combos I need to train on and which to completely ignore.

The only time that I've ever really heard of an octagonal gate helping is if you play characters that require 360/720 movements. If you're having trouble playing on a square gate it's not because of the gate, it's because you just haven't gotten used to using a stick yet. Changing the gate will probably only confuse you more. One of the things that helped me out the most was looking at the different grips people use for holding their stick and finding what was most comfortable for me. If you're having trouble dashing with a stick it's probably because you are trying to do the double tap motion with your whole arm / hand instead of using your wrist. One of the best pieces of advice I've read about using a stick is how you should never have to touch the edges of your gate at all unless you are doing it to confirm a 1379, or the end of a movement. Every time you hear a click on your stick it means that it's moved to a new position so just get comfortable with the range of your stick and practice more! The way i hold my stick is with my thumb on one side and my index and middle finger on the other. I use this for all of my motions EXCEPT for dashing. When i dash I let go of the stick and tap it twice using my palm if I'm dashing right and I use my thumb when dashing left. It took me about two to three weeks of working on it before I was comfortable with it, now I can barely play with a pad =)

Three cheers for organizing all of this Ronove. I now have an endless resource of Tao to consume all of my time outside of the Kaka-Combo-Workshop for the rest of my days =)

Can someone explain to me the difference between a Jump Cancel (JC) and High Jump Cancel (HJC) I see the notations in different combos and was wondering what the specific difference was.

Ok, found some more Kaqn videos on the tube that were uploaded this week. Looks like more fun from the evil white colored Rags. I don't think I've seen there's here before so correct me if I'm wrong, poster on the tube says they were taken on July 4 from gamechariot. *shrug* http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CigMHfFDFzs Kaqn [Ragna] vs Buppa [Jin] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9FYz0EzTVRs Kaqn [Ragna] vs MSY [Rachel] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ky9KGA9aQjc Kaqn [Ragna] vs R-1 [Noel] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LMnyhOy77R4 Kaqn [Ragna] vs Yƫmura [Tager] I noticed he did some really interesting air combos in these that looked like they started with j.5c (in the air) and then something like 5B, 5C, 263C > 236C > 214C but I'm not one hundred percent. Anyway enjoy!
