Arakune's 5A doesn't combo into a curse. The 2A does however. Bleh.

Well Arakune was my main before I switched it to Rag, although I still go back and play the evil blob from time to time. I'm not the greatest at either character but a couple of the things I noticed are... Arakune has a stupid awesome air game, engaging him in the air is generally a bad idea, however a well placed C Inferno Divider can knock him out of the air quite nicely on the way down. I haven't tested it to see if it can counter the evil dives (j.2A, j2B, j2C, etc) but ID still makes a good anti air for him. Yes, 5B punishes on teleport dash, which is great for Rags. Arakune doesn't react very well to pressure, up close and personal he only has one decent poke and that is his 2A. He has a nasty overhead though that can combo into a curse so be careful. Keeping the pressure up in general is important because arakune will generally try to throw out a cloud, curse you from the air and repeat playing keep away until you're cursed. DONT BE AFRAID OF THE CLOUDS. He only has three, a homing cloud that (slowly) follows you around, a cloud that hovers above your head, and a ring cloud that encircles him and follows him around. The clouds will curse on block so the best way to deal with it is assault through it quickly. Most scrubby Arakune characters will throw out a cloud and then pay too much attention to the clouds position instead of you allowing you to rush in and counter it easily. When you get cursed the best thing to do is to block until he goes for an attack that leaves and opening and go for a quick counter. There are gaps in the bug fest. Believe me lol. Other than that just practice the match up, i'm always willing to play some arakune to anyone who wants to practice it.

Well I've been able to get the GH 5B > ID combo to work in training. Now I'm off to other fun things. I have a hard time taking online play seriously considering I live in Europe and most of my connections to other players are complete crap with the exception of the 10 or 20 other blazblue owners this side of the sea.

Hey guys i've been trying to learn the 5B+C, 214B -> delay 214D, 5B, 623D -> 236C -> 214C combo but I'm having some sort of issue between the delay 214D of GH and the 5B. I always seem to go for the 5B as soon as the training dummy is teching out of the last hit. any suggestions? :/ EDIT: Ok, now i can hit with the 5B but he's teching before i can hit with the inferno divider.

I believe a tick throw is a throw that can be combo-ed into i.e. 5A - Throw etc. See Purple !! etc.

Yeah i think i was in training mode with Tao for about 3 hours tonight, I'm hitting up Arcade mode atm to try and get a feel for her against moving opponents lol. This is good stuff though, I can see why the people who play her are as into her playstyle as they are, who knows maybe Tao will become my main despite all of the silly things she says =). Thanks for the support in here though. If i knew about this forum board when i was introduced to GG 5 years ago I'm sure I would have kept playing it and been a better all around fighter lol.

Ok so I think I got it, i've been able to land the back throw into Kitty Three 2d~6 drive loop and i even managed to end it with Kitty Two for 3000+ damage which made me smile evilly. I have found that i have a tendency to mash out the j.c in order for it to hit after j.9d in the loop. Is this normal? Or should i be trying to refine the timing for it? Other than that I'm loving it so far, this is quite the challenge after playing Arakune and Ragna =)

Yay i have some of it! I'll keep working on it, and i'll look at those videos a bit more, i know i've watched them before I just haven't compared the combo notes to them yet. Thanks for the advice / encouragement.

Hey guys, I have been playing a lot of Ragna lately when i decided i wanted something more challenging and humorous so here i am! Was wondering if you guys had any advice for what to practice in concerns to learning her Drive Loops. I'm having a terrible time jump-cancelling them, during (j.c -> 5d~6) x3 bits they end up changing direction and all i can hit is a 5d~6 3D~6 before they fall to the ground. Any suggestions as to the best way to practice this in training mode? Which particular combo should i use? I can use (2a x n) -> 5b -> 5c -> (236a x n) -> d 2a -> 5b -> 2b -> 6a (2) -> (j.a -> j.c) x 3 -> j.236b With ease, but since most of the other combos involve the drive loop i really dont know where to go next lol. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

That video should be called "Ragna's Rapid Cancel Expo" lol.

You want to avoid using carnage scissors unless you combo into it, the easiest of which are probably 5B 5C Carnage Scissors, or neutral throw + carnage scissors (timing is to buffer the movement and hit C as soon as they launch off of your blade) outside of that using it by it self is VERY risky because the dashing forward movement of it has 0 invincibility frames thus getting poked out of it really easy. I would keep working on your air jump cancel combos and learning some corner combos before you worry about rapid cancelling. Mainly because most combos involving rapid cancelling are going to involve those techniques in their crazy long 18 hit strings. Blood Kain seems like a disadvantage at first but it's AMAZING and you need to just learn to use it correctly. The natural impulse on activation is to start spamming D, something I still feel as a fellow new guy lol, but you want to combo into it normally and take advantage of the extra reach and damage you have now. The corner combos with BK are nasty lol. One question: Are you using a stick or a pad? -

So here's a situation I find myself in from time to time and wanted to get some advice on it. One way or another my opponent has just been cursed and we're on opposite sides of the screen. Usually this is due to a homing cloud, or a j.6D or a random 2D while playing keep away games. What's the best way to keep him cursed and initiate damage? Should i approach him normally from the air with dive cancels and j.2A? Should I teleport over there? Should I wait for him to come to me and toss out a few bugs to make his approach evil? Should put up 6D Bell and another cloud? Also I'm a bit fuzzy on what the command is for the air teleport that sends you from one side of the screen to the other. What's the input for that? -
I'm subbing Ragna at the moment, he's a very straight forward character with fun combos, it makes for a nice break from Arakune's shenannigains.

Ragna Critique and Self-Improvement Thread
Raidhyn replied to Bandit Revolver's topic in Ragna the Bloodedge
Today I spend a lot of time in training working on the 6A 5D (DC) 6A - Air Combo thing, and i was having trouble with the DC as well at first so what i did was i worked on just 5D (DC) to 6A for a while. When you dash cancel correctly you'll see a kind of white ball of light burst around the mid section of ragna for a second. The dash cancel needs to be inputted around the begging of the second hit (remember, you're cancelling the animation so you want to input the dash before the move finishes) Also the dash cancel is a set distance dash, it won't let you continue running, so if you're not connecting with the 6A it's because you haven't inputted it early enough. 6A has a GIANT hit box compared to what it looks like visually. Hope this helps! Just keep practicing it, you'll get a feel for it. -
One thing I was able to do today vs Jin (the 8 out of 10 times I played him bleh) was if you jump over his Ice Carz you can punish with j.D in the appropriate location. Also noticed most of the scrub-y Jins don't know what the hell to do as soon as they get cursed except for more Ice Carz. Even the level 42 guy I fought fell victim to a flurry of bees. Stamina is also another thing, a couple matches I wont after being beaten down to 20% life or so.

Yeah but the key thing is that to new players like me (wooo for self proclaimed 09er) it would be ridiculously beneficial if some of the basics were cleaned up and reposted with correct notations. Especially the bugs. After a few hours in training this evening I feel much more comfortable with them but at first I was playing piano and hoping for the best.
-
Yeah, ultimately the notations could be cleaned up and a lot of the good information in here posted 9 or 10 pages deep could well do with being put up on the OP seeing as this is a sticky and all. This is after reading all 25 pages while at work today. Lol. Anyway, thanks for the clarification, back to the combo workshop...
-
Please correct me if I'm wrong but I THINK i checked this correctly in training today. In a lot of the combo notations here there are things like JA> J6A> (jc)> JA> JB> JC> J2D or 6C > C > 2C> 2B bug > 6A bug] x 2-3 > j6A > A bug > jc > jC > jD My emphasis being on the "2" directional motion. From what i've seen 5 and 2 have the same effect on the bugs and j.D attacks. What's the correct way to notate? Or am i just off my rocker today?

[CT] Arakune Beginner Guide (How to make bees out of sarcasm)
Raidhyn replied to CopperDabbit's topic in Archive
Hey guys, as an Arakune beginner I was wondering what some of the first techniques are that I should be practicing, i.e. first BnB combos to get down, best things to practice in training mode etc. etc. Maybe something like this would be useful in the first post? It has a ton of great information but doesn't really point me in what direction to go with it all. Any help would be appreciated =) -
I toyed around with Noel and Ragna, played Rachel a bit, tried out Hakumen, played Jin and he was too easy... Then I started practicing with Arakune and went online with him, won the match with a curse corner trap and actually began to laugh aloud in the most evil fashion possible. Thus: Arakune.

Ragna Critique and Self-Improvement Thread
Raidhyn replied to Bandit Revolver's topic in Ragna the Bloodedge
As another player new to Blazblue (played for about a week now) I've found this thread VERY Helpful. It's much appreciated that you guys are taking the time out to help us newbies along. After a lot of deliberation and experimenting with different characters I've decided to 'main' Ragna until I feel like I'm completely comfortable with him and the rest of the general BB game mechanics. The information here and in the other threads have been tons of help. 3x cheers for dustloop =)
