  1. No no, you are understanding me wrongly. I never meant to say you are using it as an excuse. I was just thinking you may be confusing online lag (due to network latency etc) and offline lag (input lag / laggy monitors). The excuse comment wasn't directed to you, it's just something i've noticed in general.
  2. I'd like to add something. A good way to test out Practicing Reactions is in games where you can save multiple recording slots and let them play randomly. Blazblue:CS Extend and Soul Calibur 5 are 2 examples of games where this exists. Let's say I have trouble against reacting to an overhead from a certain character. You record 2 slots, one containing a block string which goes into the overhead, one containing the same block string which goes into a low. Then you playback the 2 slots randomly and try to block everything. You can make things harder by making a 3rd slot containing the overhead at an earlier part in the blockstring.
  3. IMHO, no. The most important thing when learning to play a new game, is to ... play it. Sounds stupid, but it really is the most important thing. Frame data IS very helpful for people already familiar with fighting games, but for beginners to the fighting game genre, it's not something you need to look at straight away. - If it's Blazblue or P4A you are learning, make sure to check out the tutorial mode first. That will teach you some of the basics. You don't need to remember everything that is being said in the tutorial, just take it in at your own pace. - Play a couple of different characters against the cpu, to see which ones you think look interesting. Try to narrow it down to one character (don't worry if you really don't know who to pick right from the start). Always remember though: the CPU does not play like a real person ! Don't rely on "oh i'm good against the CPU, so I should do good against another human being". - Look up some information about the character here on dustloop. Chances are big there will be a tutorial page in the forum (atleast for BB, can't say about P4A as I never check those forums because <rest of comment region locked>). - Watch a few videos on youtube to get a general idea of how the character is being played by other people. - Go to training mode, try out their normals, try out some of their easier, shorter bnb's. Try until you can do them at a decent success rate. - Play a couple of matches against the CPU, trying to do those bnb's you just trained in matches. - Once you feel a bit confident, play against other people. This preferably happens offline, but if you can't because nobody else plays where you live, online is a substitute. You WILL get your ass whooped bigtime. It happens to everyone. Don't worry about this. Try to figure out what went wrong. If possible, ask the other guy about this (much easier when offline ofcourse). - From here on, the journey will be to try to improve yourself. You will get your ass whooped continuously, but remember: everyone went through that phase. Those great players you see in those Japanese videos didn't become top players over night, it took them a lot of time and ass whoopings too. Take your losses as motivation to try to get better ("I want to beat that guy that defeated me by doing Jin's Ice car all the time !!" ~> let's try to find out what beats it and how I can hurt him the most when he tries it again !). Practice practice practice. Play play play. Don't be afraid to ask questions, even if they sound stupid or basic. It's what this section of the forum is there for. Edit: didn't realise this but: bnb = bread and butter. It's something people say when they mean it's like a standard combo that works on most if not all characters.
  4. Just to make sure we are talking about the same thing: this discussion is about input lag, not network lag. So if you play people online and they complain about lag: they are complaining about network lag. When you play people offline and they are complaining about lag: they are complaining about input lag. I think you may be confusing the two here. My apologies if that's not the case, but there's a huge difference between the two. I've seen input lag used as an excuse so many times at tournaments. "I can't hit my links, setup is laggy as ****", other guy picks up the same stick and pulls of some one frame links from the first go: "no it's not" (seen this a couple of times). Many people are used to playing on laggy setups all the time at home, that when they actually play on lagless setups, they feel "lag". Another thing that frequently happens is that people get nervous at tournaments and start mashing without even realising it, making them miss things, then blaming it on "lag". Another frequent excuse is "stick malfunction" btw, but that's material for another topic This reminds me of the infamous moment when 3S was released on PS3. A guy on stream was trying the evo moment and kept failing for I think 45 minutes. He was complaining about the huge amount of lag on the PS3 setup. Then a Japanese pro player came on stream and tried it: got it on the second try (same setup, he was at the streamer's house). The Japanese player did say he felt there was slight input lag as opposed to arcade 3S, which he was used to play, however he had no trouble adapting it seems. Don't remember the name of the US player.
  5. Why ? Because the release is a little later than you would have expected ? That's no good reason IMHO. If you really can't wait there's always the option of JPN PSN.
  6. Very true. Some of us have it even worse because we live in Europe. I was frustrated that Persona 4 didn't get a release date (it STILL hasn't, except "NOT 2012" !). I was getting people all excited to try out P4:A, but yeah they can't if the game doesn't come out. Fast forward a couple of months, I'm trying to get people to try out Guilty Gear ... guess what ;( Our scene is absurdly small, most of the people play on PS3. Anyways, I decided last week not to keep waiting and got the Japanese version. But right now, there aren't many people in Europe playing Guilty Gear online, so I hope they do release it soon, just to see some more people on there, more people of the same level as myself (which is noob). I'm also fearing that a number of people will just say: "F*** it" if it takes too long to actually come to the EU PSN. It usually updates on Wednesday, but if the US store doesn't have it right now, there's almost 0% chance it will be on the EU PSN today.
  7. I'll try to keep things as NSFW as possible. You can add me to that list PSN nstalkie (Belgium)
  8. Sidenote: Litchi DLC is also available on EU PSN
  9. I have the news from this site: http://www.hitcombo.com/1news/skyll-remporte-le-tournoi-qualificatif-tougeki-bbcs2-resultats/ I wasn't there myself, but I trust this site There is an error on there though. Overgames (RG) got 3rd place. They just made a copy and paste error from a forum post: http://console-league.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=472&t=11801&start=20 Yeah it was done on an arcade cabinet. As far as I know there is only in France. It's located in the versus dojo arcade (site here btw: http://versusdojo.com/).
  10. News from the French SBO qualifier: Skyll (Ragna) won, but it'll probably soon be posted on the SBO site itself.
  11. It so happens that I made a transcript for one of the videos I saw on youtube yesterday. I think you can find it on jourdal's channel if you search for CS2 Hazama Tutorial. It's about 20 minutes long and is split up into 2 parts (one of 15 mins and one of 5 mins). Can't access youtube here at work, so can't give a link for the moment. I can't guarantee that my combo list is 100% correct, though it fixes some things that were shown wrong in the bottom part of the screen in the vid itself . I also haven't added yet if a combo is corner specific or not, but I can do that easily this evening. it should maybe also be structured a little better and more logical. it's now in the order that was shown in the vid. There's also a combo that's character specific and I know it works on tager, but not sure about the other character. It's about 4.5 word pages long. Some of the combos are a little stupid because it's just another starter into the same combo, I should filter those out probably. Anyone has a suggestion what to do with it ? I don't know what the plans are for a combo thread, maybe someone is working on it as I'm writing it and I don't want to get in their way if so
  12. Patches on PS3 do not use PSN. I tried it out. I deleted everything from BB:CS Japanese version from my PS3 when I got a EU copy. Now I re-installed it 2 days ago and it downloaded the patches without any problem. I also started AH3 recently without having played it for a long time and the patch for that was downloaded and applied too.
  13. It seems as if the patch on PS3 will be available for download on 12th May as I predicted ! 14. You can do more than 1 4D~A without the dash too, I do it all the time.
  15. You can hit 5C > 2C on any character. The reason why you would do the dash is to move closer in case the 214D~C hits at the tip. There are also some very nice corner combos where you dash under your opponent after a 214D~C.
  16. mmm ... no. It's nothing at all like ragna's dash cancel. I also don't know what you mean by "stiff". It's not a dash *cancel* at all. You can input the dash during the 5D animation and it will still come out after ragna is done with his 5D. It doesn't work like that with Hazama. You need specific timing in order to get the dash to come out and you have to input it after the 214D~C finished it's animation (or rather, the second 6 of the 66 must happen after the animation). Maybe it's different in CS2 ? If you get 6C instead of 5C, you may find it easier to do 66 4C instead of 66 5C.
  17. news from a mori / daisuke ishiwatari conference in france at world game cup. My french isn't very good though, but this should be the gist of it: BB:CS2 DLC for consoles will be free or really cheap. A date has not been set. There will be a new GG ! No confirmation on whether it will be 2D or 3D. No plans for a GG vs BB. strong hints about kokonoe being the next character (for a next version of BB ?), but nothing official. Will there ever be a blazblue version where tager is good ? "no" unfortunately the stream went down at a certain point, so I missed quite a bit. If a video of it shows up on ustream.tv i'll make sure to edit this post to include it, so people can check it out for themselves. Edit: http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/12954543
  18. At work, so I can't send you a video right now. basically it looks like a chain is coming out, hits the opponent and disappears, then a second chain comes out, hits the opponent, hazama gets pulled upwards. ok. Now as to executing it. You don't need to dash after 214D~C(2), you also don't need to have a level 2 214D~C. The dash is there in case you are too far from your opponent. For training it, just start close to the opponent and you won't need it. To practice it: do just the first part of the combo: 5B > 3C > 214D~C(level 1 or 2) > 5C(1 or 2 hits) > 2C > 4D Do this until you got it down. note that we are not pressing anything yet after the 4D. Now practice with pressing A AFTER the chain hits the opponent. What you should see is that the chain dissappears a little faster than before. Now practice up until 4D~A > 4D. Once you get that down, add the ~D to move hazama upwards AFTER the chain hits. Once you have all that down, it gets tricky . You basically need to get the correct timing to start doing the air combo, not too high, not too low etc.. This takes some getting used to, but after a while you'll be able to get it nearly everytime. What I'm thinking is happening in your case, is that you are mashing D causing yourself to get swinged upwards immediately, or you are mashing A causing your chain to be cancelled too early. So just wait for the chain to hit, then press the followup button (by which i mean ~A or ~D). You can also practice by just doing one chain: 5B > 3C > 214D~C(level 1 or 2) > (Dash) 5C(1 or 2 hits) > 2C > 4D~D > j.214B# This also works and if you get this down, you only have to add a 4D~A. Note that if you practice this first, then add the 4D~A later, the timing to start the j.214B# is a little different.
  19. Agreed, I have the answers I needed. Thanks to all who replied to the original questions.
  20. I've been to a BB:CS tournament in France last weekend. The turnout was low, which I already expected before going there. Only 4 people entered. The small turnout in tournaments is to be expected in Europe ofcourse, because the game ain't out yet. But in Belgium for example, it's not popular at all. I know only 1 other dustloop member from Belgium and only one guy who plays (still CT, but he's going to buy CS) that I met on justin.tv. However there was also a free tournament for girls for which the turnout was good (14 girls entered). They could use beginner mode if they wanted. Afterwards, the tournament organizer told me that he would probably allow beginner mode in their regular tournaments as well in order to get a higher number of entries and to lower the bar a bit for people who wanted to get into the game. I don't know anything about beginner mode, so my question is: what is the general opinon on allowing beginner mode in tournaments ? Remember, this is not like a major tournament, just a small one. The goal is to get more people into playing BB:CS. Is beginner mode abusable ? broken ? From my first look at it during the tournament, it seemed like the combos that happen in beginner mode are pretty punishable, so I'm guessing it's not really a thing to be concerned about.
  21. BB:CS is still not released in Europe btw... They said October, but it got pushed back. And it doesn't matter if BB:CS is released over here, when the balance patch is released, those versions will also be patched at the same time. Personally, I wouldn't invest too much time anymore in the CS1 Hazama stuff, especially if it would take you a long amount of time. It would be nice if we had an official BB:CS2 update release date though.
  22. What also helps for some people that get 6C after the dash: do 664C
  23. The charged version of 214D~C does a little bit more damage than a non-charged one.
  24. I think this is one of the things fixed in the 1.02 patch.
  25. Some more Valkenhayn footage. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ehpLqnEwDc0
