Doubtful. -
The music affects the attitude I take when I play so I usually set it to what I'm going for. Although sometimes Sword of Doom plays so long I forget it's there.

My friend is like that too. He doesn't even notice any of the music. It's weird because I always am aware of it. How do you do that.

Does he play other fighters? Most fighters share the basics, so even if he doesn't own BB he can still carry over the skills to be decent at a basic level.
