Throwing up a thread to centralize the discussion of the tutorial video and its progress. Basic outline:
-
Back on topic! I guess I'll catch up on penguindrum... eventually. I think I may wait until it's over and see if people think it's worth watching before I decide if I want to catch up or just skip it. Also, on a more Rachel-relevant note, after playing Platinum so much, I get bodied by Tager so hard by trying to 2A/2B his sledges. Oh man. The downsides to using another character so much. If 2A and 2B don't work, though... time to move onto... 2C!

<--Charisma stat up? :D I can convince Gamma! More seriously, though, I'm not sure if the j.B j.C djc j.D variation works on that particular combo. Hm. I'd test it out later, but... it's probably better to just learn the correct way of doing it.

Gamma, stop trying to find reasons to make me practice.

I actually use a capture card for recording, but I do it with an HDMI splitter (because trying to play through the capture card is rather, uh... irritating). Captures up to 1080i, but I just use 720p instead. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002SQE1O0 It occasionally drops in price. I think I got it when it was ~$70 or so. Anyway, the main requirements for using that capture card is that your monitor (on whichever input you're using, DVI or HDMI) and graphics card have to be HDCP compliant. You can Google that up pretty easily, though. Main caveat of using this card is that you have to use FRAPS or some third-party recording software to record footage, as the software that comes with the card does not allow recording of HDCP-protected content (which is everything that the PS3 displays; 360s don't use HDCP for games, so none of this HDCP crap matters for 360 owners). All that said, though, capture cards can be reasonably harsh on the CPU, and FRAPS and the likes certainly aren't very kind to it either. :/ edit: for an example of recording quality, jump to somewhere in the middle of this video. The beginning got screwed up during editing. Also, it's not true 1080p (hell, I don't think I even recorded at true 720p), it just got upscaled during the rendering. edit 2: reading over your post again, I think I missed the point. I'm not sure you can find any capture cards that take HDMI input and have passthrough to HDMI/DVI/VGA and support HDCP, but you might be able to find some that take in component and have passthrough for component. Component also has the benefit of totally not having to deal with HDCP crap.

Next questions are... who records what and who does the video editing? :P
-
True, true. xD So is Polka's list alright with everyone?
-
j.B j.C djc j.D still causes an extra bit of proration, but it's generally not enough to cause the combo to fail anywhere that it wouldn't have with j.C djc j.C j.D. Fortunately. Otherwise I'd be really sad about my inability to do the loop variation. ...not that I'm not sad about it already.

I just imagined the explanation for 5B/2B being projectile normals having a video of Tager sledging Rachel in the face for using them. >_<
-
Oh, I wasn't listing them in any particular order there, heh. And right, I forgot about the defense section. 2C too good. Winded teching would probably go here. Oki is good too. Does that fall under tools/rtsd or does it get its own section? What you've got listed looks alright to me.

When I download this page on my desktop via Chrome (which saves all automatically added html tags), the html surrounding the banner looks like this: <li class="no1postadvertbox"><div class="no1postadvert"> <a href="http://www.brokentier.com/"> <img src="./test_files/brokenTierBanner.gif" alt="Broken Tier Clothing!" title="Broken Tier Clothing!"> </a> </div></li> But when I download it on my phone, it's missing a closing </div> tag (the desktop browsers automatically insert it when viewing the page): <li class="no1postadvertbox"><div class="no1postadvert"> <a href="http://www.brokentier.com/"> <img src="http://www.dustloop.com/images/brokenTierBanner.gif" alt="Broken Tier Clothing!"/> </a> </li> After adding the </div> closing tag to the .htm file I had saved on my phone, the centered text returned to normal.

JPN console release is December, if I recall correctly. So what we have right now is... - Zoning - Rushdown - Other use of Rachel's tools (movement, spacing, stalling, etc.), and probably what to do when you have no wind - Normals - Combos - Omake (?) Sound about right?
-
Mm. If it does come up, I can always resort to the reduced damage (80-100 dmg) variation with j.B j.C djc j.D. Still, I really should figure this out, haha.
-
If I recall correctly (was messing around with the combo a few days back), if you do something like '6A 5B 5D sj j.[C] j.C 2D djc j.2C BBL', you don't cross up for the BBL and it hits everyone. Timing is a bit odd, though. If you get it right, you can actually do a meterless corner-to-corner carry with it.

Yeah, I don't really want to copy the Ragna video, either. Helps to have a common point of reference when thinking of what we want, though. Basically, the problem right now boils down to whether or not we want to explain Rachel's normals in CS2 or not. This includes things like 6B (which is currently jump cancellable and therefore more amazing than it will be in CSX). If we do decide to include some normals, then we should probably include them all, just for completeness. The rest of her playstyle (zoning, rtsd, etc.) generally doesn't change much, and is pretty much core to her design, so that stuff will definitely get covered no matter what.
-
kro's guide was and is still awesome. A large part of it is definitely still relevant to Rachel play. I think the question is how many of those we should actually make for CS2, as it appears that quite a few people would rather we wait until CSX before we make a full tutorial video. If we do do the normals, the way I saw us going about it was having a post/thread/etc. where people could post thoughts about each normal. Combos aren't too difficult to record and throw in there, as well. The hardest part is probably going to be the "how to play Rachel" part, and that section will probably require the most input from people before we can all agree it's acceptable. As for omake... well, I don't know what we'd put there, but somehow I just remembered this. Anyway, if we do decide to push the entire thing off until CSX, we should still try to work out what we want (which seems to be mostly Rachel zoning/playstyle at the moment, with a smattering of everything else) and how we're going to record/compile it all. If it does get pushed off, it'll probably be a good idea to add in the normals and combos sections.

Yeah, that's all I could come up with, too. -sigh- I'm so lazy when it comes to practicing this sort of thing.
-
Other than the difficulties involved in sharing large video files, I don't see any reason not to have multiple people recording parts of the videos. That said, that one issue is a pretty tough one to work around. Anyway, what exactly do we want to record, and how should we go about it? I don't think we can imitate the Ragna video (unless we decide to be far more CS2-specific with what we cover), so suggestions are all welcome here. Also, while they might not be as fast this time around, Aksys has released the previous two games within a month of their Japanese releases. I'm hoping they keep it up.
-
It would be arguably better to wait for CSX, but I figure we can try organizing a CS2 one just to get the, er, logistics out of the way for any future videos? I don't really know, hence why I'm asking. Opinions are always welcome. :D
-
Well, the forward jump making it easier sometimes aside, are there any other tips for landing that more consistently? Or is it somewhat setup specific?
-
My computer is (mysteriously) working again after being unresponsive for over a week, so I now have access to recording equipment. Do we want to make a Rachel tutorial video?
-
Ah, so that's what's doing it. I noticed the centered text on my phone, too, but didn't know what was causing it.
-
No doubt! xD Mind you, most people (read: netplay) don't punish 4B strings, and I was mostly using it nonstop earlier just to see if I could get guardcrush. I don't stop using 2C until I have no way out of a failed 2C (ie: no meter and no bursts), but 4B stops pretty much as soon as people start consistently punishing it. :D
-
I tried that once. I got as far as... no wait, I didn't get anywhere. I just kept playing BB instead, because I didn't have a CRT or PS2. I still want to learn Bridget. Gotta find Jais and make him teach me. xD
