lurch_E_bean Posted September 25, 2009 Posted September 25, 2009 I'm having some trouble with one of my BnBs on Noel and Tao. 5b -> 3c -> 5d~6 -> (j.c -> 5d~6) x2/3 -> j.a -> j.c -> 8d -> air dash j.c -> j.236bb -> j.236bbbb Actually, it's pretty much any combo that does 5d~6 -> j.a -> j.c. I always whiff the j.c on Noel and Tao. Is this just a really strict timing issue, or can it just not be done on these two? Does anyone have any alternate ways to end the combo on these two? The only other alternative I've seen is using 5d~a -> 8d -> 8d~6 -> j.236bb... instead of j.a -> j.c, but I believe that will only work in the corner. I know that 3c -> 5d~6 -> j.c -> j.236b -> 2d~b etc. is usually better, and definitely works on everyone, but I still have trouble with it, and if I'm online my ~a, ~b, and ~c cancels aren't terribly reliable mid combo, so I wondered if there's a simple solution.
Rabbit360 Posted September 25, 2009 Posted September 25, 2009 If you're whiffing on the j.a -> j.c then try j.a -> j.a I use it on a variation of that combo (without the air dashing) vs carl and other small hitboxes.
lurch_E_bean Posted September 25, 2009 Posted September 25, 2009 If you're whiffing on the j.a -> j.c then try j.a -> j.a I use it on a variation of that combo (without the air dashing) vs carl and other small hitboxes. I believe I tried that before, but had trouble with the drive after it, I guess I'll just have to give it another shot. The only other thing I ever managed to come up with was j.a -> j.a -> JC -> j.b+c, but that's kind of crappy. Nothing else would hit out of the JC, but maybe I should try that again, too. The weird thing is, I'm pretty sure I have hit that combo on Carl as is, or at least some version that I couldn't against Noel or Tao...
Pirateyoshi Posted September 26, 2009 Posted September 26, 2009 I would just stick to 2D~B combos on Tao and Noel if you could help it. The slightest bump Noel makes on the ground makes followups after j.A j.A just stupid.
Ronove Posted September 26, 2009 Posted September 26, 2009 Lately offline I've been using this combo against Noel and the other small hitbox characters 5b -> 3c -> 5d~6 -> j.2d~b -> 5b -> 2d~9 -> j.c -> 9d~9 -> j.c -> 9d~9 -> 236bb -> 236bbbb It does 3.7k damage, pretty good and the timing for the j.2d~b ain't that hard either.
XDest Posted September 26, 2009 Posted September 26, 2009 Lately offline I've been using this combo against Noel and the other small hitbox characters 5b -> 3c -> 5d~6 -> j.2d~b -> 5b -> 2d~9 -> j.c -> 9d~9 -> j.c -> 9d~9 -> 236bb -> 236bbbb It does 3.7k damage, pretty good and the timing for the j.2d~b ain't that hard either. Works on Carl if you do 9D~9 236BB j.C 9D~9 236BBBB as the finish instead. Looks like a good Rachel combo too. For Noel I'd rather do 5B 3C D~B [no hit] 5B 2D~5 6D~6 j.C D~A 9D~9 9D~9 236BBB 236BBB. The finish on your combo doesn't seem to work on Noel outside of corners. Also here's a Ragna specific combo using that setup. (The j.C won't hit on anyone else with this one) 5B 3C 6D~6 2D~B [hit] 5B 2D~5 6D~6 j.C D~A 9D~9 9D~9 236BBBB 2D~6 [3890]
Ronove Posted September 26, 2009 Posted September 26, 2009 It did work for me outside of the corner, although I could tell that I was barely there since the j.c during the vertical loop was almost not going to hit her (just a few pixel below and it would whiff). I guess the timing is VERY STRICT so that's why I'd suggest using it mostly offline. I'll try yours though, it looks like an other viable option (although ~a cancels online are a pain in the butt). I rarely go the for 2d~5->6d~6 route though, usually if possible I try to get the vertical loop. But I guess I should train that as well.
XDest Posted September 26, 2009 Posted September 26, 2009 Eh I like the 2D~5 6D~6 route on characters you can drive loop, just makes things more interesting. But this also works fine on Noel which is a plus. You can do the same combo finish off a triple drive loop vs most characters for around the same damage, but you can't triple drive loop if they're already near the corner. So I guess use 2D~5 setups closer to the corner, drive loops further away from the corner. vs Noel and Nu, maybe other characters it doesn't matter, since this combo will work everywhere regardless on them.
GreyFlcn Posted September 26, 2009 Posted September 26, 2009 So it looks like the December version of BB is really gonna mess with Taokaka's ability to use Cat Spirit 2....
XDest Posted September 26, 2009 Posted September 26, 2009 Nope, confirmed not to change inside regular combos. Just outside of combos the hitbox is different I think.
Shiawase Posted September 26, 2009 Posted September 26, 2009 So it looks like the December version of BB is really gonna mess with Taokaka's ability to use Cat Spirit 2.... This is a bit off topic but it's coming out in Japan during December, right? I know that they are testing it in Japan now but its only like a Beta version.
XDest Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 Hm, it looks like 2D~C (then delay) makes 2D~5-type combos easier to do, and makes them possible where previously they were impossible. 5B 3C D~B [hit] 5C 236A 2D~C [hit] ... 6D~6 j.C D~A [hit] 9D~9 9D~9 236BBBB 2D~6 [3872] Without 5B proration it does 3900-something. It also makes 2D~5-type combos work on Jin, and 9D~9 9D~9 combos easier overall because you're less above the opponent when you start. It makes the j.C actually hit on Rachel but you can't drive her after it. Here's one that works with 3C by itself (for crouching stuff obviously) 3C D~B [hit] 5C 236A 2D~C [hit] 6D~6 j.C D~A [hit] 9D~9 236BB j.C 9D~9 236BBBB [4023] Broke 4k without a taunt or 6C whoo~ Anyone else want to work with this?
XDest Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 Easier Bang/Carl (Yes Carl, whoo~) 6C Combo: 6C 236CC j.C 9D~9 66 j.C 236BBBB 2D~6 [4193] Carl 3C Combo: 3C D~B [no hit] 2D~5 6D~6 j.A j.C 9D 66 j.C 236BB 236BBB [3308] 3C 6D~6 2D~B [hit] 5B 2D~6 j.C 9D 66 j.C 236BBB 2D~6 [3543]
Ronove Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 Don't know if it's been posted yet: (corner) 5b->3c->5d~a->5c->236aa->2d~9->j.c->9d~9->j.c->9d~9->236bb->236bbbb 3.7k damage Works on everyone except carl. One thing I noticed while working with all these drive cancel combos is that for some reason I can easily pull off ~a and ~c cancels while ~b cancels sometimes won't occur. I suspect it's my stick (the b button doesn't respond well to inputs at times) although sometimes I get the feeling that the ~b cancel might have a smaller window. Gotta check frame data again.
XDest Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 (near corner) BURST 6C 236CC 2D~6 j.C 9D~9 j.C 9D~9 236BBBB 2D~6 [3470] lol.
PelvicThrust69 Posted September 30, 2009 Posted September 30, 2009 236cc -> 2d -> 5d~6 -> j.c -> 5d~6 -> j.c -> 5d~6 -> j.a -> j.c -> 9d~9 -> 9d~9 -> j.236bb -> j.236bbbb So, I'm trying to learn that combo, and the 5d6 always hits them too low to even be hit by the 5a, am I doing it too late? too early? I have to say, these position sensitive combos make me want to tear my hair out Combo dummy is Jin in this case, which might be the problem?
canned.air Posted September 30, 2009 Posted September 30, 2009 practice on tager first 'cause his hit box is huge, then work your way down the hitbox ladder. that way you know if you're close to getting it right or not. edit: gah, i wish i could go and practice against people more; must buy xbl subscription card
lurch_E_bean Posted September 30, 2009 Posted September 30, 2009 236cc -> 2d -> 5d~6 -> j.c -> 5d~6 -> j.c -> 5d~6 -> j.a -> j.c -> 9d~9 -> 9d~9 -> j.236bb -> j.236bbbb So, I'm trying to learn that combo, and the 5d6 always hits them too low to even be hit by the 5a, am I doing it too late? too early? I have to say, these position sensitive combos make me want to tear my hair out Combo dummy is Jin in this case, which might be the problem? Well, I just tried it out, and I'm having serious trouble with it, too. I only got it to work on Tager and I think Arakune. I tried Jin and Ragna, but couldn't even get to the first j.c. Did you get the first j.c out, or was that where you're having problems? I don't think I've seen that combo before, either, it might be character specific.
Pirateyoshi Posted September 30, 2009 Posted September 30, 2009 I have not tried that combo, but just from common knowledge. Let's say you have Jin, a 2 Drive Loop character. 5B->3C will work for 2 loops. 2A->5B->3C will work for one. If you have 236CC followed by the 2D, there is probably no chance to get that extra loop on people like Noel, Jin, and Tao.
GreyFlcn Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 I tried Jin and Ragna, but couldn't even get to the first j.c Try this out: http://www.dustloop.com/forums/showpost.php?p=442845&postcount=252 As for the "diagonal" 9d~9 timing. Pretty much, whip out your j.C's as soon as you get in range. (i.e. Quickly) _ Also the combo looks fine, but it seems like it near to the end of it, you're hardly doing any damage, due to proration.
Pirateyoshi Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 First day with stick. My muscle memory is not in yet, and I havent been able to do any double taunts/5D~A yet for some reason, so yeah. What an annoying transition. You guys use DABC or ABCD?

canned.air Posted October 3, 2009 Posted October 3, 2009 i use dabc, but even after...however long i've had my stick, i am still struggling with the retarded square gate. probably going to have to swap it out for a seimitsu ls-56 with an octo gate soon; the jlf octo gate is too big.
Pirateyoshi Posted October 4, 2009 Posted October 4, 2009 Lol I am done re-learning everything but Double Taunt combos, and surprisingly enough, air dashing gimmicks. The ability to hit buttons so much faster is great, but i am so used to piano/stepmania that I am doing things way too early. lol KARA THROWING ROCKSSS :] Yeah DABC >>> ABCD
slowatch Posted October 4, 2009 Posted October 4, 2009 i use dabc, but even after...however long i've had my stick, i am still struggling with the retarded square gate. probably going to have to swap it out for a seimitsu ls-56 with an octo gate soon; the jlf octo gate is too big. i have to say i had the same feeling 'bout the square, but now that i dont feel it to be wierd...i love it. i think it makes for much more accurate inputs overall even though it seems to take FOREVER to be able to do things like 236236 motions. trust me, stay with it. and yeah dabc:yaaay:
