I use type D (I think?). But Just like Hollysmoke said, it comes down to what you find comfortable. I suggest messing around with your button layout in training mode until you find something that works for you. As far as most popular goes, I see a lot of people use type A, but I personally find that one really weird.

Yeah, whatever works best for you.

The classic layout (type a i think?) is weird, and goes something like

K S HS

P  _  D

This is the dial-a-combo chain starting from P through to HS. The bottom middle button is either left empty, or used as a macro or taunt button. Mine's a roman cancel macro, but whatever is fine. The most common layouts I see are either the classic or

Mine is an 8 button layout I use:

P K S T

H 1 2 D

1 and 2 are blitz and burst macros, but I leave Taunt blank so I don't hit it by accident.

Can someone tell me which layout will be good for Chipp?

also, is Taunt important?

I thought Type 1 is Default...

I changed to Type 1 and it's defenitly feels better, I binded RC to Circle, Taunt to L1, and Burst to L2.

Should I change the Macros or the Buttons?

1) Whatever is comfortable to you

2) To me it is but that's because I'm a goober like that

I keep my taunt button all the way on L1 that way I won't accidentally hit it during a match and look like an idiot. But I keep it there just in case I gotta use it...

My layout:

Record and playback are on the vacant slots.

P  D  taunt

Basically I just switch D and taunt. I like to keep my fingers as stationary as possible and this setup allows me to only need to move my thumb to hit D. Otherwise all my fingers rest over the buttons. I don't do macros because I find it easier to just press multiple buttons in GG.

Been playing this game on pad until Xrd but since grabbing a stick I've been unlearning-then-relearning the arcade default (rainbow). Mostly because I'm an arcade purest when I play games, partly because I was hopeless last time I went to JP so if I ever find myself at a cabinet I"m not fumbling around.

Was weird at first but you realize that it's that way for a reason other than for the sake of being different. I play Axl so now K,S,HS flow logically.

Only issue I have with it is funky placement of leveled-attacks in relation to buttons. High-mid counter is P which is the button below K which is the Low Counter (though my issue there is the way I learned pad). His Sparrow stance attack levels are also a bit strange on that layout.

I have a question for Zato players using the rainbow settings. Is this layout optimal? I'm having issues with using my pinky to hold Dust when necessary and I don't really want to change the layout just for one character as I'm already using the default one for all my other chars.

Would appreciate some input.

P  S  D

K  H  P+K

P and K are just switched because I'm used to SF/Marvel.  I tried to make the layout similar to MvC2.

Default layout makes no sense, why have a dead button in the middle of your layout?  P+K button next to D makes j.D FDC (I-No, Faust) really easy.

I do

P  K     S       [Taunt]

D  RC  BST  HS

I like it with Ramlethal.  Having one button on the bottom row where my pinky usually is feels more natural than anything else.
