JamesTheAussie Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 Hey everyone, I have read through this forum and the 'What's a Litchi?' post extensively, but I need some help with my basic Litchi play. I can win a majority of matches with Jin who I learned first, but since picking up Litchi have felt, for lack of a better term 'spastic'. I have only been playing for 3 days and wasn't blessed with being in a state with a decent arcade around so I just have absolutely no skill with her. I feel that other than occasionally IBing into a Tsubame Gashi then recalling into Shishin I don't have any real offense and need some very basic tips. How do you start some good offensive strings? Do you plant the staff first, or start then plant. I'm not talking specifically combos, but the very most basic offensive principles. Thanks in advance for the assistance.
JamesTheAussie Posted July 8, 2009 Author Posted July 8, 2009 When do you start up her straight through? It seems like it has to be really predictive due to its long startup.
El Suave Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 Lots of her combos are used without the staff. Staffles: Try 5B, 5C, 2C, 3C, 2B, 2C, this is the beginning of her basic combo Staff: Try 5B, 5C, Straight Through C, Air combos to follow It took time for me to get used to her but she is sort of simple once you get used to her.
Kicks La Flare Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 not really it happens right away basically. (where the staff protects her) but like I posted in the Nu vs Litchi thread, the ability to move around the staff proves deadly. While she has her staff use those pokes! thats damage you dont have to fight for later. And you have to keep a calm head, dont worry about doing the bnb juggles yet, focus on the ground game first. 6D, 2C, 4C, 3D o.C all get alot of play in my book.
JamesTheAussie Posted July 8, 2009 Author Posted July 8, 2009 Thanks alot for the tips everyone. I really like her style, and have always been a sucker for characters who fight with staffs. I believe I overthink placing the staff and recalling it and focus way too much on it. That is my number one problem.
rurouni572 Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 As a relatively new litchi player myself I can tell you what has worked so far with me. Usually I like to stay with my staff and poke them with 6B or 2B until I land a 5B, counter hit with 6B, or throw. After that comes one of the combos from the complete litchi thread, which usually lands you staffless, in the corner, and on top of your opponent. From there it's one of her corner pressure options, usually for me it's shinshin or orphans if I have the meter. The depth of my corner game is still pretty shallow since I still have to learn a couple of her corner combos, but you get the general idea. As said in the guide, stay with your staff until you land a poke, combo, recall staff, repeat. Generally If I dropped a combo and have the staff planted around on screen somewhere I call it back as soon as I safely can. I don't like fighting without it unless I'm in the middle of a combo.
individuals Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 if your opponent is playing cautious and you fear punish for a badly timed 6b or any other poke, or just likes to air dash in a lot, placing the staff is an ok way to start the pressure. place it 5d to counter air, it works great and if u know it will hit you can just run after it and start the pressure/blockstring when they recover. 2d and air dash after it with j.b or maybe j.c to create an attacking wall, if u do it well your opponent might panic with the low staff and your high kicks. if he does block it, then you are now on the offensive as they are blocking and when u land u can start the blockstring, and by then the staff will have returned.
Jthan Posted July 9, 2009 Posted July 9, 2009 Spend your time reading the already existing threads, which are very informative, and watching jp videos, not making useless threads.
Mobri Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 Learn the BnB combos and become comfortable fighting with the staff. When the staff is placed, use it for cover; don't let it just sit there (usually.) I don't play this game on a daily basis, so I'm still pretty n00bish with Litchi, but I've found that the "getting your butt kicked" learning curve is pretty steep with Litchi. Considering the fact that BB already has a steep learning curve (if you do anything more than mash buttons) you're facing a LOT of painful losses until you get the hang of her. Put yourself out there, practice the combos, and keep at it. Everybody has lost to the drive spamming Noels.
Master_Rekuta Posted April 10, 2010 Posted April 10, 2010 Yeah, I'm still having some troubles with doing her combos i keep doing the same ones over and over again! lol
ril213 Posted April 10, 2010 Posted April 10, 2010 when you have the staff use it for space control and poking, for long range jumping C. and 6B are your pokes to use when fishing for counter hits. ground to ground use 5b to tag your opponent mid-range into a combo, and 2b for a long low, useful when properly spaced. when staffless, use shishin. 5d, or 2d to cover your rushdown so u can get in nd apply pressure. its not suggested to go in w/o using cover as mentioned. just sum of my input in there. i hope it helps.
ARESone Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 óla, just one question from a BB-newbie how can I control, that litchi does the 4-winds horizontal and not diagonal everytime I input the 41236 D it comes out diagonal thx in advance
ril213 Posted July 12, 2010 Posted July 12, 2010 óla, just one question from a BB-newbie how can I control, that litchi does the 4-winds horizontal and not diagonal everytime I input the 41236 D it comes out diagonal thx in advance if u placed the staff down with 5d, the staff will go diagonally up when u recall it makin 4 winds the same direction. place it down with 2d nd the staff will fly horizontally. When u do 41236D after placing the staff down w/2d, the 4 winds will be horizontal. hope it helps.
