Thanks to animeboston switching the tourney start time at the last minute I got screwed out of a spot... but I had fun commentating ^^ Hopefully it'll be better organized next year, and we'll have a better balanced game as well.

and no one fixed the stupid lag till I mentioned it, which was after the tourney was over.

LPT had to bring his own setup for MBAA too. Both games were set up on LCD todays on Friday while Smash had 5 or more SDTVs.

Not particularly. BlazBlue was supposed to run at 6 in the afternoon on Saturday and got bumped up to 2PM for whatever unknown reason. MBAA was supposed to be at 10AM in the morning. LPT got there to be told MBAA wasn't scheduled to happen (on top of him bringing his own setup, same case for Mindgam3 having to bring a GG setup), so he argued with them and the tourney was then made at 10PM... 12 hours after the advertised time.

BB didn't even have a set up for casuals to happen until 5 min before the tourney began despite the room being a sea of Tekken 6 set ups

For the venue fee we had to pay, I'd expect things to be run better than they were. This was my first tournament and it was a very disjointed experience. I still had a good time and met some rad people. Looking at this as a learning experience for myself, personally and hope the next tourney I get to attend will be a little more fluid.

And lastly - I saw a post from Zoob saying he forgot to give Mindgam3 the capture card? But I believe that's being resolved.

Sounds very disorganized, mostly poor communication. When we run Vernon tournaments and ACT we're close-knit to make sure shit gets done. Last ACT we did have a big problem with the program we were using for the MBAA tournament. After an hour or so I fixed it and we could continue. Stuff like this happens, don't let it get to you. But at least you guys had fun and the tournaments were at least run.

Smash was run good because lots of people play it, and mainly the guy who ran it is a well known player who frequently runs big tournaments, so they knew wtf they were doing and planned ahead.

Yeah we had to play the Friday GGAC tourney on an HD TV. Earlier in the day Manny (the guy in charge of GPX) said we'd definitely get a SD TV for the tourney, but he wasn't around when the tourney started; the guy he left in charge refused to let us take or swap a TV from another setup (there were at least 6 for Smash).

Mindgam3 saved us for the Saturday tourney by bringing in his SD TV.

The thing is, Anime Boston is an anime convention, and convention tournaments are never run as well as legit fighting game tourneys (except for when the tourneys are run by people that KNOW how to run a tournament, like Mindgam3's Ucon@Uconn tourneys.)

Making sure the tournaments are run properly is a lower priority than preparing and facilitating the dealers room/ video game orchestra/ panels/ artist alley/ industry guests.

The really sad thing about Anime Boston is the AB staff in charge of the game room (Not GPX gaming they're usually cool about this), tend to get very offended from suggestions and criticism. Their forums are often a mess, making it hard to find info on tourneys; they also do like to change tourney times with little or no warning. I've gotten chewed out in the past for asking about tourney starting times in a video game tourney thread instead of checking in the relevant thread. Apparently there was an official tourney starting times thread somewhere. (which I couldn't find either with the search function, or by searching every single page of the video game programming forums, thread by thread). One year they were going to make all tournaments pad only, for fear of theft; when stick users complained the Video Game Coordinator said they should all be able to play on pad since those were the standard controllers for the systems (fortunately they found some extension cords at the last minute to allow players to change controllers without opening their anti theft console boxes).

Kind of went off on a rant there... Anyway please don't use AB as a standard for tournament quality. Every other tournament I've been to was run better than theirs. I'm just sad that this year, after preparing for past issues by bringing my own PS2/American GGAC/ extension cords, we got screwed by the HD TV takeover.

Even not going to another tournament before, I know what was happening was not the norm. I'm not about to let AB discourage me. Granted it will be a little while, but I know ACT BBCS tourneys will be much better than what I experience this weekend.

Just making a quick post here, since I'm new to the forum. I was the Faust at the Anime Boston tournament, and it was a really fun introduction into competitive Guilty Gear! Sure, Nazgul temporarily removed my will to live and Mindgam3 finished me off...

We didn't have a Capture Card to record matches so I was trying to buy one until Zoob gave me his. Now I'm trying to figure it out so during our daily meetups (In Vernon, CT) we can record the matches we have.

Oooh, Zoob... man, that guy was a funny one to watch. I was probably going to face him next if I won my match against Mindgam3, but first I had to learn the hard way that Faust versus Slayer is a bad matchup, especially is that Slayer is really, really good.
