SolarMisae Posted August 1, 2011 Posted August 1, 2011 No worries, we shall. He's helping us build a scene here.
LunarSelenia Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 Take care of our Norcal Taokaka! Of course of course, he's been helping us improve, and we need him to help build the scene here~ And he's sadly the only one we play with on a regular basis ._.;; I think everyone else was doing EVO training >>;; maybe we'll see more people? That game is so hype. Lies, the dinosaur fighting game was so much better. Stegosaurus top tier XD
Kurokun Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 There's actual convo going on in the 808 thread now? 808 BB players that are still on DL, where have you been since the beginning of 2011? Also, the post I made asking: "Who even checks/posts in the DL 808 thread anymore besides myself? lol." supposedly means/hints at: "brings down other people's efforts" and "why are you even bothering". A simple question about the current state of the DL 808 thread that gets blown out of proportion because some people think otherwise. MIND BLOWN /sarcasm Anyway, some things that I'd like to point out and address: - My post means exactly what was typed out. I don't see why you two are catching some feelings over it and are trying to infer that it meant something else entirely, when I could easily say something to that effect and be direct about it. Considering the lack of activity in the 808 thread from other Hawaii people on DL for many months (more like since the beginning of 2011), you shouldn't be surprised by that post. - In regard to people checking the thread, why don't people actually take the extra effort to post up and make the thread be somewhat active with random talk? Or do the other Hawaii people on DL only like to cruise other parts of the site and avoid/lurk the 808 thread? AFAIK, all the remaining 808 BB players on DL that still cared about the game more or less left the 808 thread in early 2011 (probably even before that) after the 'end of 2010 blowup' and haven't been heard from since, until now. For the 2 people in Hawaii and the 1 person from Hawaii that is visiting from NorCal that are so preoccupied with '808 BB scene stuffs ONLY', you don't seem to rep that in a thread that is within a regional section on a site for the game you play. - Why are Hawaii people only posting now up in here after so many months of absence? Mystic d, apparently you've been back in Hawaii since mid-June and only now you post up in the 808 thread. What, don't wanna drop in and say 'Sup' to the 808 thread, or are your greetings/talk only reserved for 808 BB players? SolarMisae, you're pretty much active around DL, except here in this thread. Why is that? Because besides LunarSelenia and Mystic d, there is no one else to talk to about BB stuffs in the 808 thread since no other Hawaii BB players post up? Don't wanna even talk story with other Hawaii people, regardless of whatever FGs people play? So yeah, surviving 808 BB players, why haven't you been posting in the DL 808 thread for all these past months? - As for the info on sessions being posted up, the only problem I see with it is in regard to the timeframe it was posted up in this thread. It was kinda late, from my POV, considering that this was started up back in June when Mystic d came back and was talked about in places like the 808 BB group page on FB and even in the Kawaii Kon forums, but not here though. Hell, Bears happened to RANDOMLY stop by HVGL on a Friday and saw that there was a BB session taking place, sometime in early July. Depsite obviously having already held a few of these sessions for the last several weeks at HVGL, what seems to be the official announcement for these HVGL BB sessions only comes about a month later to the DL 808 thread at the end of July, compared to the other 2 places where there were some discussions about it since mid-June. Kinda seems like an afterthought considering there were no prior discussions about this in the 808 thread among the remaining 808 BB players here, but then again no one was really present at the time, so yeah. And as far as Mystic d helping the two of you out with scene stuffs, I just have to ask these 2 questions once again: "What happens if/when he leaves?" and "Why isn't someone here stepping up to do things instead of him?" I just read something in Lunar's post that says, "we need him to help build the scene here." What is he doing for you that the two of you can't do yourselves, in regard to 'help build the scene here'? Let's see: - You have a location for casuals (HVGL). - People that are interested in BB and are serious about learning/playing the game (Mystic, Solar, Lunar). Isn't that more than enough at this point in time since you have a location to play at and a core playing group?. Right now, just focus on what you currently have and don't think too much about what you currently don't have (more people playing your game), especially when you have someone in the Kawaii Kon BB thread saying stuff like, "I wouldn't mind checking this out, but why pay-to-play there when I can play it at home for free?" Do you even want to deal with that? That happens to be the sentiment that some people have when it comes to pay-to-play scenarios and the 'offline vs online' arguement comes into play. Not only that, but also the issues of low interest in ANIMU FGs and low support because only a few people actually take them seriously. After a significant amount of time passes (several months), then you can worry about scene stuffs.
SolarMisae Posted August 2, 2011 Posted August 2, 2011 Sorry Kuro, that right there is exactly why we don't post here often. A small peep from us often results with us being chided for just about anything. Please stop... For the record...it took so long to post that because I was totally aware that this place was pretty dead. Not to mention was also partially wary of posting for getting it thrown back in my face with comments like "lol no one cares" or "sadlife" which quite frankly, don't help. It's funny a few times but it does get tiresome, and gives a sense of "why bother"...I don't see how you can't understand that. I finally get the nerve hoping maybe someone would actually care. Yet we get...that. This is pretty much why I don't post here. "You don't seem to rep that in a thread that is within a regional section on a site for the game you play." ...look what happened when finally I tried to do that. :[ And no, you're taking Lunar's post too seriously. (Just like we apparently took yours too seriously...see I can do it too.) He's helping us but no, you're right we don't NEED him but it helps. If he leaves, we're still going to go to our casuals. We're still going to see who's interested, and we're still going to play the game we enjoy even if it ends up being only me and Lunar making up the "scene" in the end. The main point I guess is I would post up and "talk story" but this place doesn't exactly feel welcoming. I really REALLY don't want to argue about this, I don't want to sound angry...I'm really sorry I just...don't know what you want out of us. I'd really like to feel welcome here...it'd be great to be able to just chat without salt flying. But I just don't feel comfortable here because I always get the impression that I'm not wanted. I dunno if the others feel the same but...thats me. :[
Mystic d Posted August 6, 2011 Posted August 6, 2011 to keep things simple, i don't really post anywhere, but i'll be making an effort to post more often. mostly in the tao boards, but i'll be posting here as well. we'll do what we can with the scene here building it and strengthening it however we can. of course i'd love to talk with the gg players and the other FG players as well here on dustloop, but i don't want to hear that stupid bb vs gg debate ever again.

I can promise you this. I will still blast BB, but I mean it with the lightest intentions. Just for jokes. I'm all for scene building even if it's for a game that I don't plan on playing seriously in the future anymore. I'll dwell in the shadows and watch you guys play. If any of you guys are curious about playing GG. You guys know what I look like, and I'll try my best to help. Remember at King33's place, Mystic D, when we tried to show you some of the ropes in Guilty Gear. We put our game on the side for a little bit so you we could get to know you, and play BB. Even though it was CT.
SolarMisae Posted August 11, 2011 Posted August 11, 2011 Honestly, I'd DEFINITELY get into GG if I was able to play it at home. I refuse to play with a normal controller and don't wanna have to get a PS2 stick. ;[ I would like to try it though, I have for awhile...I just would like to be able to practice on my own ( and not on my PSP version....;w; )
BearsWithKnives Posted August 11, 2011 Author Posted August 11, 2011 You two missed some funny MvC3 matches after you left... Is it me, or does HVGL TVs lag a bit? Maybe it's the controller? It's strange, I have the hardest time doing Magneto's air combos. Even the Hyper Gav loop.
SolarMisae Posted August 11, 2011 Posted August 11, 2011 Yeah they do. I notice it when trying to do Habacan combos with Moo-chan. Mystic said he noticed it too. o.<;
Mystic d Posted August 11, 2011 Posted August 11, 2011 I'd say about a 2 frame lag on the monitors. I really need to adjust in mvc3 for my combos. bb has its 5 frame input buffer so its not as bad, but i do miss my j.8D~A loops sometimes as well. And yes bears I remember and do appreciate the fact that you guys tried to teach me gg, but it was just an overwhelming amount of info in a short time that I couldn't really learn much. that and i was still fairly new to FGs. I think if I gave gg a shot now, it'd go by much smoother, but I have the same problem as solar
BearsWithKnives Posted August 11, 2011 Author Posted August 11, 2011 Whenever I got a Magneto combo started, the guy was saying, "Drop it, DROP IT!!!" it was pretty funny. I felt bad because I don't know much teams. I basically keep small variations with Magneto in it. MvC3 Chars I know fairly well: -Magneto -Doom -Wesker -Dormammu -Sentinel -Phoenix -Trish(sort of) -Wolvie(sort of) -Zero See, they all make good teams with Mags.
Mystic d Posted August 11, 2011 Posted August 11, 2011 You could be like F.Champ and play MSP lol. Or you could be like the rest of the world and play wolverine akuma + who cares because the team is good enough already

But if you're looking for a main, I'd recommend her for you. edit: When you said MSP, I though MvC2 MSP. Not Team Filipino. Which is my unofficial nickname for that team. SolarMisae Posted August 11, 2011 Posted August 11, 2011 I have absolutely no idea who I'd wanna play in GG if i did play it.
BearsWithKnives Posted August 11, 2011 Author Posted August 11, 2011 (edited) Can you guys shead some light on what I just read on some other thread. Break burst - Hitting with or blocking a burst gives 25% heat My reaction: Meh. Whatever. Knockback - When air guarding a ground attack, knockback is increased to make it easier to gain some distance My reaction: O_o... Shouldn't you be using Barrier to block ground attacks in the air? What happen if you're not using Barrier? Are ground attacks unblockable(without Barrier) from the air in in BB(because I always thought they were)? Barrier guard - Larger knockback on moves with a higher attack level My reaction: O_o Instant barrier guard - Knockback is even larger, making it easier to get away My reaction: BB's Slashback? Kurokun Posted August 11, 2011 Posted August 11, 2011 (edited) I had something to post... GG talk? In the 808 thread? IS THIS 'THE TWILIGHT ZONE' Edited August 11, 2011 by Kurokun
LunarSelenia Posted August 11, 2011 Posted August 11, 2011 Trust me I REALLLLYYYY want to play Guilty Gear. It's just really hard when the only form of this game I have is for PSP. I want to use a stick for this but I don't have a copy nor do I have a Ps2 stick and I refuse to use the Dpad. Also same as the others, I don't know who I'd want to play... Blazblue is the first FG I got into, so it would be learning a lot of new stuff, but I'm open to that. Solar and I always have talk on who we'd play in GG, just....we have no way of playing it. No way of playing it didn't give me much of a reason to learn stuff.
Kurokun Posted August 11, 2011 Posted August 11, 2011 I love that link in my last post. I remember the following when I asked the 2 of you which chars you played in GG: But I guess my main in GG would be Millia as my "main" and Bridget as my "sub". I started out with A.B.A. >___>;;; but I kinda like Jam and Baiken.... Are the 2 of you still fond of these chars that were previously listed, or are there other chars that you're interested in?
SolarMisae Posted August 11, 2011 Posted August 11, 2011 Bridget yes, (more on a superficial level, design wise...) but Millia no. The other characters that have been suggested to me in the past were Dizzy and Venom, more or less based on the fact that I play Mu in BB and like setups. Leaning towards Dizzy though since I'm not very fond of charge motions. Lunar has displayed interest in Ky, but is really unsure. Since she mains Tsu I told her she needs to main Order Sol for the lulz, but thats just me. Neither of us have any true experience in the game to know what characters would suit us.
BearsWithKnives Posted August 11, 2011 Author Posted August 11, 2011 If you girls want to play GG if I'm there. I can play on pad. Hawaii's recent GG scene was mostly pad players, and I grew too lazy plugging in my stick and set up the buttons. So I learned to play on pad. Which kinda was more work. Oh well.
Mystic d Posted August 11, 2011 Posted August 11, 2011 Can you guys shead some light on what I just read on some other thread. Barrier guard - Larger knockback on moves with a higher attack level My reaction: O_o Instant barrier guard - Knockback is even larger, making it easier to get away My reaction: BB's Slashback? I feel like the break burst giving heat is unnecessary, but gives more of a reward to gold bursting in the middle of a combo. The knockback in the air is useful because there isn't enough pushback right now even with barrier guard. some characters such as jin can put you in some ridiculous blockstun in the air with a 5A dash 5A dash 5A string. also, not all attacks are AUB, but most characters 5Bs, 5Cs, 6As, and 2Cs are AUB in BB, forcing you to barrier block. For the other pushbacks, it sounds like it favors the zoners more than anything, especially the instant barrier guard. i really hope they take that one out because when approaching zoners, you need to dash then dash cancel using barrier guard. most of the time this will give you an instant block with the barrier (if you're doing it correctly) and if there's a larger pushback, that kind of defeats the purpose, making it harder to get in against zoners. sorry i can't really contribute to the GG convo as i know nothing about the game
BearsWithKnives Posted August 11, 2011 Author Posted August 11, 2011 (edited) In GG, a Slashback is kinda similar to what Instant Barrier Guard is. But You have to get it within the first 1-2 frames(I think) of whatever is hitting you. If successful, you have no blockstun. And everyone around you gets boners. It's also a pretty good option select. Personally I like to use FD(barrier)/Tech Throw option select more. Edited August 11, 2011 by BearsWithKnives
Mystic d Posted August 11, 2011 Posted August 11, 2011 Slashback would be gdlk in BB. i'd assume you have about 6 frames to hit an instant block in BB. From what it sounds like though, instant barrier guarding is not turning into a form of push block which has its pros and cons. i feel like the changes are trying to turn it into more of a defensive type of game
SolarMisae Posted August 11, 2011 Posted August 11, 2011 Mu j.2C fatal. lol wtf. These first changes are freaking hilarious.
