Koozebanian Fazoob Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 Guys, I know this is the stupid gameplay questions thread, but I've seen a number of questions lately that could be answered by reading the game manual. Since a lot of people don't have the manual because they are dirty pirates or have the manual in Japanese, PLEASE READ THIS FAQ ON GAMEFAQS PLEASE: http://db.gamefaqs.com/coinop/arcade/file/guilty_gear_xx_slash.txt It will explain the stuff that's so basic that I hurt myself a little every time someone asks about it.
tribaL Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 · Hidden Hidden It will explain the stuff that's so basic that I hurt myself a little every time someone asks about it. you know, if the thread says "post your trivial gameplay questions here", wtf do you think people are going to post? the game has a pretty steep learning curve, so deal with it. otherwise, close the thread and let people swamp the forum with those "basic/trivial/simple gameplay questions".
Henaki Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 · Hidden Hidden you know, if the thread says "post your trivial gameplay questions here", wtf do you think people are going to post? the game has a pretty steep learning curve, so deal with it. otherwise, close the thread and let people swamp the forum with those "basic/trivial/simple gameplay questions". i dunno asking how to burst is pretty dumb because its answered by even the worst of faqs, its so widely known by even the scrubbiest of scrubs i mean do you think its relatively hard to find out what a burst is? would you walk into srk and ask what a super is? thats how moronic the question really is. hes actually relatively lucky no one cussed him out for it save gwyrgyn.
Koozebanian Fazoob Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 · Hidden Hidden People write FAQs for a reason. It's so other people can find information conveniently without having to ask on a forum about it. This thread is for things that aren't covered in the manual, my FAQ, or on gameFAQs.
tribaL Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 · Hidden Hidden http://dustloop.com/forums/showthread.php?t=983 the community could be a bit less abrasive. i didn't realize i was being that out of line that all the sudden i got ppl telling me i'm asking dumb questions in a thread that asks for questions that are "of little significance or value". maybe i just don't understand the definition of trivial. whatever, peace.
Koozebanian Fazoob Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 · Hidden Hidden It's because these forums are generally for higher level play, not for people who have barely touched the game. Your posts aren't out of line, but they certainly made me realise the need to link people to gameFAQs so they can read up on the basics. This is why I've posted the link in three different places now, to try and give people more resources so they have less questions. Edit: And honestly I just reread my last few posts in here and I don't think any of them are abrasive towards anyone. I made a crack about not having the manual but Tritone corrected me and I agreed. Chances are you are just taking my style of writing to be offensive when it is not intended to be that way.
POscrub Posted May 3, 2006 Posted May 3, 2006 · Hidden Hidden Hm.... maybe you should link the README before Posting thread in the first post of this thread. I get the feeling people tend to skip over those kinds of posts, and instead make a straight bee-line for the stupid posts thread. Oddly enough, sticky posts are somewhat LESS likely to be read by newcomers, especially ones that say readme first.

jcyl29 Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 Shoto, Thanks for the explanation, now I have a new question. What is a "clean hit?" This is a new thing in slash right? It looks like a clean hit is required for sol's sidewinder loop, but where else is it useful?

For Sol's Sidewinder, I just try to get as far up in to them as possible. I belive clean-hit is specfic only to Sol's Sidewinder. Just like mashing is specfic only to Sol's Grand Viper.
jcyl29 Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 got it, i thought it was part of the overall fighting system like counter hit
Champloo Posted May 6, 2006 Posted May 6, 2006 i use controller and use L2 for pks frc. when u push L2 the punch button comes out. but when i use Anji's fujin and press L2 after fujin the Slash button comes out. Y is it that the Slash followup is used instead of the Punch Followup after pressing L2?
KyK1ske Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 can anyone explain the whole "impossible dust" or direct me to a thread explaining, thanks.
rtl42 Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 i think it's been answered before in this thread, so just use the Search function (on the top right, labelled "Search This Thread") and type in "impossible dust" to see what you get.
Koozebanian Fazoob Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 http://dustloop.com/forums/showthread.php?p=41635&highlight=impossible+dust#post41635 It's in the FAQ now too.
HmR.kS Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 I think it's a pretty stupid question.. so here goes: Sometimes people blocked a 2D and then they will get hit by the following Tatami: Why? I mean, why did they released block and all? Also, IAD -> j.S -> j.P -> j.K (all guarded) -> j.D Surprisingly they get hit by the j.D sometimes. Why? it's been bothering me for some time now.. Thanks in advance.
quartercirclebk Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 Sometimes people blocked a 2D and then they will get hit by the following Tatami: Why? I mean, why did they released block and all? Thanks in advance. I dunno...hold on a sec, gonna check if Baiken's 2D is JCable... looks like it is. I dunno...maybe a TK Tatami? That'd be pretty noticable though...maybe they just suck at blocking
Koozebanian Fazoob Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 Frame trap, probably. When a player looks like he can get out of a pressure string by throwing a quick hit (like a 2P usually), you can get a free hit by leaving a gap between hits of your string so that he has the time to leave guard stun and begin to throw an attack, but not long enough for his attack to go active. There are a few good setups for these... moves that give you good frame advantage are great for this (Jam's 5K in #R was stupid good for this). Moves that can cancel late are good as well. You have to be careful though, if you give them 1F of non-guard stun, you can get supered or DPed if they are good and expect it. You can counter that by instead hitting them again before they leave guard stun, causing you to possibly tag a free hit while they try to input a motion. Lots of scrubby players love to try and mash out attacks while they are under pressure instead of using a proper move, backdash, or just blocking. That gets them killed if you just use a frame trap.
Caer-caveral Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 Also, IAD -> j.S -> j.P -> j.K (all guarded) -> j.D Surprisingly they get hit by the j.D sometimes. Why? it's been bothering me for some time now.. This is because it's amazing how many attacks Baiken can get in one airdash. It's easy to think that she is done and start blocking low right before the j.D comes out, in anticipation of her landing and using 2k. It's just something that takes a while to get used to if you haven't seen it often enough beforehand.
Tritone Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 [Frame traps rox0r.] That was a great post, Dan. Thanks.
Champloo Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 i use controller and use L2 for pks frc. when u push L2 the punch button comes out. but when i use Anji's fujin and press L2 after fujin the Slash button comes out. Y is it that the Slash followup is used instead of the Punch Followup when pressing L2 after a Fujin? Anyone know?
Koozebanian Fazoob Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 Punch comes out because 'button priority' states that if you hit two buttons as the same time, the lowest leveled button actually comes out ( P > K > S > H > D > R if I recall). Likewise there is an effective 'move priority' list that the game has. Basically when determining your next action it has to look at what is in your input buffer and check that against a list of possible things that could happen. If there is more than one possible action, the game decides what happens based on some formula (possible a fixed button priority as above, or as a list of moves where the game simply could either find the first thing that matches, or find the last thing, it's impossible to say without seeing the code). We basically just wrap up the whole phenomenon with a 'priority' buzzword so we don't have to worry about getting into specifics like these. So to answer your question, it's probably just a side effect of how the game is interpreting your button inputs differently between button priority and a special move priority list.
