Huh...My roommate just made a startling point about this whole ranbat being here, how many people are coming? our MPR can only hold about like 20-25 people at max and another thing We can't "gamble" at the dorms...but I'm gonna talk to our director about this tournament....

ok thats reasonable, I think we can fit that many if we move some shit around. But still there's the matter of the whole money thing involved, I know its a natural part of the ranbats but damn, our Dorms doesnt allow any type of "Gambling". I'm trying to think of a way to make it seem like its not gambling... But nothing comes to mind. :psyduck:

We are hoping for 40 (unlikely but going a bit over 30 is possible) :D uhm. backup venue anyone?

There might be a chance of me renting a couple of rooms at the school for the ranbat... I gotta talk to my friend on how he was able to do so... but If I do that, WE MUST CLEAN UP AFTER OURSELVES, DO NOT LEAVE A MESS!

Well, the classic trick for it not being gambling is making it seem like some of the equipment was bought for the venue, indicating that the entry fee is actually a venue fee (to the people you're answering to), and then handing out prize money discreetly.

Oh! Okay then that makes it legit then. but as far as the 30-40 ppl.... I think we may need to move this to the classrooms...

Then can I come by Tuesday to check things out at Devry? Will you be awake in the morning? @.@ And if you have to use a classroom, then can I assume that it will be ready by Saturday? o_O

Posted

since there's no classes on Saturday, we wont have to worry bout inpeding on someone teaching or anything like that.

wired is fine. if wi-fi is needed we could bring our own router but i don't think we need people potentially lagging our stream

Also of note on the gambling front: -The contestants are putting money on themselves (an entry fee) -the outcome of the game is entirely non-random (excluding Faust) a tournement such as this would constitute a "game of skill" not gambling. Games of skill are legal in california, but that doesn't nessaryily mean Devry will allow it... The above argument is totally reasonable and would fly in california courts, but who knows if Devry has the same policy on what is and is not gambling.

Good news guys! From what Gamma told me, it sounds like we're good to go. I still need to hear what these 'rules' are, but assuming that we practice common sense, then it shouldn't be a big deal. I'll update this thread with new info about the parking situation and ranbat setup. Regarding setups; I would like to offer this suggestion... If you have a TV, or ps2 setup and have not posted on the thread, please bring it. I want to cram as many stations, as I can, to fit in extra casual stations. Put it this way, would you like to wait 20 minutes watching :3 or bust out with some hearty GGAC casuals? DECIDE THE DESTINY! :3~ I'm looking for, at least, 4 extension cords, 8 surge protectors, and 10 TV setups + 2 ping pong paddes/net/balls Also, there's an HDTV mounted on the wall. I was wondering if we can get some composite video splitter to show on the TV and HDTV at the same time. If so, then we can show the finals on the big screen (instead of having people huddled around one TV).

I have an even betterer solution: I have a PS2 cable that has S-Vid output in addition to the composite, and an extension cord for the s-Vid, plus splitters/extension for the composite sound (This is recording stuff, if anyone cares why I have it)

pretty much the rules simply state, DONT BE A DOUCHEBAG! and dont gamble. and thats it for them. All right everyone GET HYPE!!!!:yaaay::yaaay::yaaay:

just keep these money matches on the DOWN LOW. dont need Campus Security thinkin we're a bunch of druglords using GG and MBAA as a front to make money.

Posted

Hmm can't you just keep track of who is entering what and then after the tourny is over and everyone go eat have people pay up then or you break their legs?

Posted

Thats a great idea. I'll implement that. Since it's off of school grounds, the violent act of breaking someone's legs will not be the school's responsibility.:v:
