Tsuki Garyuu Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 Well I'm not very competitive, BUT I DO think it is important to be proficient with at least two characters, for me it's four. I mean I don't think it's good to put all your iguanas in the same sack, right? I don't know, I think it makes you an overall better player if you at least try to, even better if you do. I mean maybe by exploring other character, you might find someone who fits your fancy more than Noel. (Not implying anything.) Like me, back when I was a total shot in the dark noob I picked Hakumen (OHHHHH, WHAT A SUPRISE!!!!!) & was very good with him, but some of my friends brought up the subject that he's a boss character, blah, blah, cheap ass, blah, blah. So I picked up Nu, once again boss character, cheap ass, etc. so I picked up Ragna, I loved him & finally my main Jin (YAAY ICE CAR!!) came about, so four character I now excel in (Nu not as much.), see? Probably not, I never make fucking sense when I post, or think, or write..... In short, use diversity! But yeah, I meet guys who play one character entirely. Of course, they're good, but I wanna know if they go to tournaments. It's real fun to be diverse and play more than one character to know which pros beat an opponent's cons. Like kaqn here, who beasts with Ragna. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RRn0J8mv4vM
Penguinlord3792 Posted May 29, 2010 Posted May 29, 2010 Your friends suck if they seriously think Haku is broken because he's a boss character. >_> Yep, most of my friends do suck, up the ass!! I still use Haku on a regular basis, of course. But really it doesn't matter who I play as, I always end up killing them anyway. I had ONE really, really good skilled friend of mine who always rachel rapped me, but he got a bonner for Call of Duty, so.....
Konner Posted May 29, 2010 Posted May 29, 2010 No, you could just play one character and do fine. I play all characters minus Carl and Tao, but I really only use Tager and Bang.
Digishade Posted June 2, 2010 Posted June 2, 2010 I agree with most of the commentary here, in that you should at least get a good flavor for the other characters. Damn. My problem is the fact that nobody's like Jam. She was my bitch in GG. Tusbaki next. Maybe. *sigh*
Jugiatsu Posted June 2, 2010 Posted June 2, 2010 I was a Jam regular until I moved onto Axl and Venom. She became my tertiary choice. When BB first came out I figured Litchi would be a lot like Jam. And in a few ways she is, but not for my tastes. Then I found Nu and Noel and fell in love. Although I play a lot more Ragna nowadays.
Manta Posted June 2, 2010 Posted June 2, 2010 Sometimes it's worth at least studying some of the more extreme matchups to better beat them when you go up against them, because they have the potential to destroy you if you go in with a standard attack plan. And by extreme, I mean Tager, Carl and possibly Tao. Other people will probably diagree with the specific people. But needless to say, know your enemy.
Fugu Posted June 13, 2010 Posted June 13, 2010 The only problem with playing other characters is using playing as other characters as a substitute for playing against other characters.
bluerogue Posted June 26, 2010 Posted June 26, 2010 I'd recommend trying to get at least somewhat proficient with a character before learning others. I think I learn more about my character fighting other people that play him as opposed to fiddling around with him in training mode. Most of what you'll learn in blazblue other people will USE AGAINST YOU. You will get hurt by this stuff until you gain an intuitive grasp of what they're doing and when they'll do it and the best way to do that is to get your ass kicked. On the other hand though, in terms of learning your own character, I recommend you watch videos of good people playing your character while learning posted bnbs for your character. A cool thing about blazblue is that theres a lot of open endedness in terms of the combo system, and that you can pretty much invent your own setups / combos / traps when you start understanding the fundamentals of the game. After enough play and practice you'll be able to do your bnbs and more.
