Vyers Posted June 1, 2010 Posted June 1, 2010 Despite the long wait times and the frequent DQ's in GGAC, I had a great time at ECT2. So I wanted to say thanks to Sweet Johnny cage, and his assistants/staff for running it (and thanks especially for holding a GGAC tourney). I do have some suggestions that I feel would help ECT3 run more smoothly I think the decision to break the SSF4 bracket into 8 pools was wise, but the way it was implemented was frustrating. Calling out the players in each pool one by one, and one seed at a time, meant that some players had to wait over 4 hours just to learn what seed they were in (and avoid getting DQ'd). EVO's pool system works so efficiently because they only allow preregistered players to participate, they inform every player what pool(s) they are in before the event, and they let everyone know the schedule for each game/pool either before the event or at the start of it. Assuming that you don't want to make preregistration mandatory (EVO's the only tourney I know of that does), there are a few other ways to run the pools more efficiently. The first would be seeding and sorting out the pools of preregistered players beforehand, and implementing a system for players to find their pool(s) before the tourney. Players that register at the door could be placed in filler positions in pools (leave a few spaces empty in each pool), or if there are too many for that to work, extra pools set aside for walk-in players. (You'd probably need a website for preregistration with a login system to make this work). My second suggestion is to print out several copies of each pool as soon as they are complete (along with their starting time), and tape them to the wall near the registration center as well as by each individual pool's section/setups. By doing this, people will be able to check on their pools as soon as they're created, instead of waiting hours for their name to be called. It would also help to have a master list of all the players by game and seed on a laptop by the registration desk, so players can ask the staff to look up what pool(s) they're in. If you do hold GGAC next year (which I really hope you do), is there anyway you could let someone from the Dustloop community run it? The guy running it this time didn't know many of the players, which made it more difficult for him to track people down. He was also in a different tournament (3rd Strike I think?), and he kept leaving to play matches in that. There were no other staff available to run the bracket while he was away, which slowed down the tournament significantly. Often times he'd call out a player for a match, another player would go looking for the first player, they would come back only to find the bracket runner had vanished, and then the first player (who may not even know who he's up against) would get called up in SSF4 or MBAC while waiting for their opponent to arrive/waiting for the bracket runner to get back to report the winner/ waiting for an open setup. St1ckBuG (Alan) has a lot of experience running tourneys. He ran the brackets for GGAC singles at last years NEC, and, if he is willing to, he would do an excellent job running them at ECT3. If he can't there are others including: Mindgam3, HNH, and myself who have experience running tournaments that could do this. A member of our own community would know most of the players involved, know people from most regions they can ask to track down a player from their scene who is up in a match, and know other trustworthy players who can run the bracket when the runner is up in a match, in the bathroom, etc.
blueNINE Posted June 1, 2010 Posted June 1, 2010 Good games everyone. And a shout out to everyone who supported that Guilty Gear! This game is too gdlk. See you at Summer Jam!
DubiousCurvLoop Posted June 2, 2010 Posted June 2, 2010 I know I'm over a week late, but GGs to everyone I played, and to everyone who played in general. I with I could've got some casuals with you all Saturday, but by the time I was done with SSFIV, I had forgotten the room you all were playing in. Sunday made up for it though. I'm going to try my best to make Summer Jam, so hopefully I'll see you all there.
