Discuss the Tsubaki vs Hazama matchup here.

Things to watch out for:

  • Chains
  • 236236B super/Jayoku Houtenjin
  • 214D~B (flash kick)
  • j.2C overhead
  • 5B

Things you can abuse:

  • 2C if he tries to close in on you using chains.

Despite the fact we know the dp sucks, it beats out 214D~C, but if they do 214D~A (overhead kick?) and you dp thinking they'll do sweep, prepare to eat a combo since he moves past it unharmed. Pressure into 214D~A, repeat, seems too safe for my liking. I've noticed 5B takes him out of the overhead kick, and on reaction might end up trading so you can get neutral again.

If you IB 214D~A, you can punish it or interrupt his next move. And people normally wouldn't do 214D~C on block.

I probably wasn't fast enough when I tried to punish it. His 5B seemed to trade with anything I did normal-wise after 214D~A. Also, reason why I even mentioned 214D~C is because I've seen a few Hazama players trying to get lucky with mix-up. All except two of those who dared ended up failing at it, and the two that were quick with the luls rarely got their low or overhead to work anyway. /shrug/

A few things I picked up myself from playing against Hazama 60% of the time I was playing today.

j.D from the other end of the screen is probably as safe as 2D. If you're far enough, I believe you don't have to worry about the snake getting from any direction--as long as Hazama doesn't move closer. If you're far but within range for Hazama's long range snake, you'll have to rely on your reflexes to guard it.

NEVER use 236x unless you're quick enough to react when the snake disappears. If you use 236x too early and the snake is still there, you'll get hit. Otherwise, if you time it right, you can punish and close in as well.

5D is never safe in this matchup. Captain Obvious, over and out.

Screw this match-up. Just took a trip to the Video Threads and all the Hazama Video's show Tsubaki losing >_>

Anyways, I find the problem with this matchup is closing in. Seems like Every Time I charge I'm a Whole Screen away from Hazama. Of course, easy charging, but trying to close in on him is where my problems come in. Trying not to be predictable is hard. Airdash to j.B/j.C usually ends up with snakes in my face. 236C Usually catches them off guard, but I don't know anything to combo into it that doesn't shoot him (Or result in him being) across the screen.

Not to mention 3-4 Combo's and it's done. His Oki game is a beast to. In a Corner especially. Trying to decide whether to Roll Fowards, Back, or Neutral is hard. 50+ Meter and he has the advantage when anyone is on the ground.

The only positive thing I can find in this matchup is that any variation of D leaves him WAY open. 3C/Aerial Combo Galore. Too bad when that chain hits, I'm fidgeting trying to figure out whether he's gonna Cross up. Then his 5B always out prioritizes my 5A. Ugh.

LOL its like this matchup was designed to just be a piss take. The Chains >>>>>>>>>>>>>> J/5/2 D. The Chains >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Any form of trying to close in. The Chains >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Everything (lol). i just ifind against hazama with tsubaki, shes out paced pretty much 90% of the time, and is pretty much placed where ever hazama wants. And like Kinki said, sitting on the edge of your seat wondering if its a crossup or what, then even when you guess it right, 80% of the time, your still gonna be under some hard pressue.

Zeo deems this matchup. Gay.

You can 2d at full screen or max chain length and be ok. You can also IB chain and then 2c him if he tries to come in. It is super gay trying to catch him if he wants to run away though. Just try to keep pressure up if you get a combo on him until he has 50% and then be super fucking careful and treat him like Tager.

You can use the 22B to guard point the snakes, but I wouldnt usually advise it because if he follows up you're most likely in for it.

You can also use 236B with the right timing to beat his 5D and followup with combo.

But if i dont want to use 236b

Can i use 2C to punish him when he dash at me?

I think when you finish youre air combo, you can 236D(to keep him not attackin) and then make a 22D Unblocable and blam!A combo that make

3k damage.

Warning!Dont do it so much because he will try to predict it.try to 2A or even DP to make some change after 236D.
