Things to watch out for:

  • 5B
  • INFERNO DIVIDAH!
  • 6A
  • j.C, j.B crossup
  • TK Gauntlet hades for overhead
  • Very high damage and safe normals.
  • 2B to 6B gatling
  • He does like double your damage in every combo lol.

Things you can use:

This matchup is pretty dumb. All of Ragna's pokes are faster and have more range than yours, so if he gets pressure it's pretty rough. If you get pressure it's pretty easy to bait inferno divider and such, but you won't keep pressure long so landing a hit is really vital. Super is pretty much the only way to keep him off. If you can successfully combo him a few times he'll be scared to rush down so charging shouldn't be too difficult once you push him away. 22series and 214series is good on him. Same with j.214 series, especially if you bait a uppercut and punish it. 236 seems minimally useful.

Anyone got any tips?

It's really a hard fight to consider. Both sides can freely punish, so you really have to stick to your safe mix ups and generally burn RCs to add more of a mix up value. In Tsubaki's case, it's probably better to save meter for Counter Assaults to prevent getting pushed into a corner.

The best advice I think I can think of at this moment is to learn Ragna block strings and know how to block against him. Your defense is going to be your best offense here since you need to push him away to get time to get a charge or two. Once you have that, apply pressure and make him think twice about reckless approaches.

Ragna don't need to jump in on tsubaki to hit tsubaki :V... Ragna makes tsubaki Jump!

only bad ragnas will just jump in on tsubaki's 2C range without thinking ~.~

I heard high enough Berial Edge can clash with 2C

+ jC max range > 2C cause 2C can't Anti Air it & it will whiff and put you in vulnerable state

The jump applies to Tsubaki as well though. Jump into Ragna, and you end up eating a DP or 6A. Either way, it SUCKS. Be selective in your jumps.

This is a pure footsies match up with a slight disadvantage on pretty much all moves. 2C is your friend.

I'll repeat what this guy says:

Ragna don't need to jump in on tsubaki to hit tsubaki :V... Ragna makes tsubaki Jump!

only bad ragnas will just jump in on tsubaki's 2C range without thinking ~.~

I heard high enough Berial Edge can clash with 2C

And it's not really slight disadvantage, everything will hit you clean or trade in his favor if you try to compete with him in a battle of normals.

Not really footsies if you're blocking 5B all the time lol. And in the air, you're probably blocking too, unless you manage to get a hit in.

Actually Blueyesdevil is right, its basically pure footsies... see all of that Ragna's 5B? ITS ALL OF HIS FOOT The foot is too long!

The match is basically you trying to outsmart the other guy and punishing on their predictable set of movements, and blocking a lot. Or that is how i feel it is.

*Goes back into hiding*

He also has some really good blockstrings, but once you know them they are really easy to recognize and react on them.

And watch out for that 2B into 6B overhead blockstring. That one catches a few times to many.

his 6B is the last thing to worry about, its those random Gauntlet Hades that are the main problems :V and the many variations that make it so silly ~.~

Is 2C fast enough to stuff GH after IB'ing the generic attacks before it? Also, I haven't gotten the chance to test this, but does dp.a stuff GH in the same situation, and maybe without IB'ing into it?

Tsubaki's dp A will probably trade in disadvantage. 2C isn't really reliable after IB, because Ragna can do the gauntlet hades from any moment in his blockstring pretty much. That and it's a huge risk for low reward.

Need more help on this match up since it's one of my worse ones. Should throws be used more frequently in pressure considering using long strings and charge canceling aren't that effective? Is is also smarter to avoid using the second hit of moves too often and stick to one hit at a time like 5B>2B>5C to be punished less by IBing?

Well, all I can really say is do what it takes to not get predictable, unfortunately most of those options lose to IB DP anyways. Tsubaki is probably blocking at least 60-70% of the time in this matchup imo.
