stick woes

I like my stick and definitely feel like it's an upgrade from pad, but I really want something with a stick like the Sanwa JLF-TP-8YT, like that Arcana Heart 2 stick. I figured it'd be easier, and about the same price, to just buy a ps2 stick with the button/stick I want and sell my old stick instead of going to the trouble of modding mine, especially since the other ones typically have a wider base.

The good news is that there's tons of PS2 Hori sticks that used that. The problem is that they're fucking gone from the internet now, rofl. I checked e-bay/amazon/google shopping but couldn't find shit that wasn't $300 or something absurd.

However, there do appear to be some really good, $90ish Hori sticks that are also supposedly easy to mod, no soldering required to replace buttons/stick, but the problem is they're PS3/360 sticks like the HRAP 3. If there were converters that let you use a PS3 stick on 360 or vice versa that were reasonably priced and not laggy, this wouldn't be a problem, but as it is I'd have to buy two sticks to play on both consoles if I was to get a PS3/360 stick instead of a PS2 one.

So uh..anyone aware of good converters or something? I've heard before that my converter for 360 works with certain PS3 Hori sticks, but it didn't with the Tekken Hori stick Tomato had.

I played Mai, Andy, Mature, and Shermie in 2002, mainly interested in Whip, Leona, Li Xiangfei, Ramon, Daimon, Geese, Kasumi, Lin, Vice, Yamazaki, May Lee, and Angel, though I'm not very familiar with how Lin or Kasumi play and May Lee/Angel are somewhat difficult rekka-heavy characters.

Hmm, a $90-ish stick... I'm guessing you mean the Real Arcade Pro series.

The stick itself is a Sanwa with a square gate, and the buttons are all Hori. This isn't bad, but the good news is that they're all attached with a quick-detach lead and can be popped loose with a screwdriver easily, no solder required. If you want to go the serious route and swap the buttons for Sanwa and the stick for Seimitsu, this stick will let you do it pretty easily.

...I replaced the gate with a Sanwa Octagon and all the buttons with Sanwa. It took about 10 minutes and was completely painless.

So yes, as far as getting smooth parts, the most you'll have to pay for after the stick itself is like $30 or so for buttons (from LL) or you can buy some of mine if you want.

If possible, I'd suggest you get a PS3 stick with a 360 converter. PS3 had a firmware update that made a large number of 3rd party converters stop working. There's also dual-modding.

I'm aware of the firmware thing, though I only heard about it hurting PS2->PS3 converters, yet all the people I know who use such don't have a problem.

You missed the crucial part: I spent a lot of time before trying to find PS3->360 or 360->PS3 converters that work with sticks and aren't laggy and aren't fucking $80+. This is my main issue if I can't find a ps2 stick. That Hori sounds great, but if I can't use it on my 360, then lofsdalfdofld

also: ps3 stick wouldnt be useable for GG/MB if i ever tried to get into those, unless there actually are ps3->ps2 converters

so, i heard the ps2 pad and stick/ps3 pad->360 converter i have worked with certain ps3 sticks. i tried brandi's tekken stick on it, it didn't work. however, http://shoryuken.com/f177/converter-compatibility-thread-181187/#post6304229 says that it does work with HRAP 3, which is exactly what I want.

so i suppose I should get the PS3 HRAP 3 if Brandi confirms her tekken stick wasn't a HRAP2/3 which would mean that maybe my converters arreeee bald or something i dont know.

Never thought to use Amazon Japan. Ah well. Cheaper this way, plus I could practice MBAA by other means than PS2, and perhaps I could get GG to behave as well, and I doubt I'll have time to really get into GG any time soon.

I'm a bit worried that overall gameplay changes will matter more than character changes with regards to character balance, but I don't actually give that much of a shit, because essentially being a new game = awesome.

pretty sure all of us have square gates

most people use squares from what i know, i think you'd be hard pressed to find an octagonal, especially on arcade machines (the ones we care about)
