I just want to speak for myself, TO of St1ckbug tournies, that because SSFIV is not in the tournaments does not mean I advocate hating SSFIV or it's community. It's not there because it doesn't need to be there. It gets 50+ on wednesday nights at the same venue routinely.

In addition, many tournaments since last year in the area are IV+the game or 2 of the moment we feel like having. I wanted these games to not be on THE SIDE (but I guess GG has kinda taken over as the SFIV....but I try) but to be given the same level of attention.

Alright, well, I haven't been there and I don't know how you do things. As long as the SFIV people aren't staying home when SF4 isn't being played, I think we're talking about the same thing. I mean, if a person was purposefully doing keeping SF4 from being run all the time, that can still come off as elitism/favoritism, but it doesn't sound like that's what you're about. All I'm saying is that if you want to show somebody that a game is worth playing, they have to be there to play it, which means something has to bring them out, which means the game they're already playing, and you also have to not do things that would discourage them from participating, i.e. paying an entry fee for a game they know nothing about. Sometimes you even have to go beyond that and play their game as well so that they'll see it's cool to play your game. It sounds like you're showing everyone some love and it also sounds like you're seeing results. If that's true, then I don't think there's anything to worry about. I didn't mean to call you out or anything, it just sounded like some people were calling for a retreat from the rest of the fighting game community into our own little clique, when what we need to be doing is building relationships and showing people that superior mechanics contribute more to enjoying a game than a popular license and realistic* graphics.

Trust me when I say I'm not trying to be reclusive. I just think it's silly to be having more SSFIV tournaments when they're the #1 game attendance wise locally and nationally, have plenty of tournaments and players. I know most of the players and the TO's as well. I'm trying to expose these games more and I've probably had the most attendance at a regular tournament series that didn't have SSFIV in NY in forever.

I trust you, and I think your heart's in the right place, and yes if space and/or time is limited, something does need to be cut out, and SF4 shouldn't be exempt just because it's popular, but if it's possible to run absolutely everything people wanna play, why not? SF4 has a gigantic player base, and if you can redirect that into other games, I think it's a good idea. I still don't know if you're saying you're getting a good turnout despite SF4 players not being there or if you're saying the SF4 players are coming out even when SF4 isn't being played. If it's the latter, then great, but if it's the former, I think you may be missing out on a lot of potential community growth. I mean it does make sense, doesn't it?

Also I guess I should say that there's nothing wrong with hyping up other games. I'm not saying hype up SF4 and just sort of have the other games there, but you can hype up other games and sort of have SF4 there and what's the harm? Also, nothing wrong with having separate events for separate games, but I think it's a great idea to try and foster interaction between communities of different games so people can learn to enjoy something that isn't SF4.

What we are doing here in MI is like a combination of the ideas that you guys had about ranbats/bi-weeklies. We have BB/GG/MB seperate from the SF games, but it all takes place on the same day, and I am working with the SF community to help improve the whole experience from both ends, and I personally think cooperation between each scene will encourage more people to play games on both sides. On the topic of free ranbats, I decided to have free MB ranbats to help introduce more people to the game without the discouragement of knowing that they might lose money. I'm thinking of doing the same thing with GG as well, but BB will still cost money to get in, but I will explain more on that later.

While I think it is a good idea to work cooperatively with the SF community, I don't think it's a bad idea to have events without a SF ranbat, especially if your goal is to have GG or BB be the main event. Like you guys already said, the SF crowd dwarfs us on many occasions, so if you were planning to have a different game be the main event and have SF on the side, SF may unintentionally "take over" just due to the sheer numbers of their scene, so imo the best option is to have some events have the scenes cooperate, and other events be seperate.

Back to my reason for putting an entry fee on BB. I decided to do this so I could hold 10% of the total collected to be saved on the side, and then it could be used to help fund our scene. Some examples would be to help buy recording equipment or to fund someone's trip to a major (who would get this prize would be determined by who had the most points at the end of the season of ranbats, but our local community is tight-knit enough around here to give it to whoever needs it most out of the top scoring members). This also encourages our scene to both grow and go out to majors and support the scene on a larger scale. I look foreward to seeing some of you guys at tournaments in the future.

EDIT- @ doragonkoroshi: I will probably go to Frosty Faustings too, along with several others from MI. I hear it's got one of the better MB turnouts in the Midwest.

Ummm I meant people go on the STREAM asking for SFIV.

Those at the regular SFIV tournaments, a nice percentage of them (including TO's and most of the top players btw) know me. And we all know that the game is popular. Why do I need to over inflate the SSFIV tournament scene when people already complain about the price of entry, especially when they don't think they can win and cause competition between two different tournament series? (that's the harm) Why not just have a series for other games? The SSFIV players in NY tournaments aren't exactly 10 year olds who have no idea what other fighting games are. They play SF, that's nice.

Can we um... stop this shit?

this shit is like the sopranos. IT'S OVER. DEAL WITH IT.

Wasn't the sopranos good though?

Look. Do what works. If that works, do it. We have a lower population density than you and probably less total players. SF4, Tekken, and whatever players from here are telling me they want to learn GG. I'm into that. Whatever you think I'm accusing you of, I'm not.

How'd I do, Mac?

Zoogstin got 2nd in pool 2, so thats not true, considering we ate with him at like....11 at night at canes.

But the tourney was great, shoutouts incoming.

He might have meant pool 1. I got 2nd in pool 1 and my friends wanted to head out around 5:30. I kinda wanted to stay for casuals but I was overruled. I already heard Zinac say BB was only taking top 4 so I took that as the end of it. I'd have opened a salt mine myself if I heard they took top 8 after I had already left.
