Any advice on this matchup? I played a decent Tao today and it was very hard to get her off me and set up steins. It seemed like I spent most of the match blocking more than anything. Try to zone her, she'll just speed towards you, and rushing her down is hard without stein support, especially with her evasion.

I haven't much experience with Mu as of yet, but this is a manageale matchup that just might be in Mu's favor. Ame no Totsuka wll be well worth risking here, if steins are spaced correctly. Tao also has no dp, though she cal slip through steinless pressure AND possibly punish.

l find j.c to be Mu's grace in this match if you need space. 236A may be useful too (finally) by stopping air approaches, though there may be better options.

Maybe 5 or 5.5 Mu's favor?

I say it's in Mu's favor but it's an annoying matchup. Just space your pokes correctly and she can't just charge to get near you. I don't even know how many times I punished Tao's from rushing in by punishing them with a FC 6C

If you cant get any space to Stein, you can always throw some out after hitting her in a combo, since most of her combo enders (and all her decent Counter Hits) give like a full second or two of hitstun across the screen.

She doesn't have a DP, but her Distortion is most definitely a very dangerous substitute. j.C is my friend here. Does anyone know if her Crawl goes over 6C?

I played a few rounds with a good Tao (XDest) and it appears that her crawl (3, 2A, 3C) goes under all of Mu's jump ins save the ridiculously slow and punishable j2C. Any suggestions?

Yeah i forgot about that. She can crawl poke and basically CH any air attempt you try with Mu, PERHAPS unless you try j.B. but im sure it wont matter.

Pretty sure Mu only has one jump in and that is j.B. Anyways match kind of reminds me of Lambda vs Tao, but not nearly as bad. It is still incredibly obnoxious and you have to watch her IBs so she doesn't crawl under your crap. I should check if she can crawl under 2c. This match is probably her hardest because you are playing a match at like 1/3rd a character. Ds are fairly useless and your long range pokes are crawlable. I really don't know how I would beat a really good Tao with her honestly. Just be random with your pokes and don't do too many steins. Never forget Tao has to come to you if she wants to hurt you, so make her life as difficult as possible trying to get to you. Don't try to zone her just try to run away from her.

63214c > Tao's approach

Even her crawl. This is a time where this move can be thrown out raw.

The hardest thing about Tao to me, is her jump ins on pressure. 6a does work, but she can also crossup. Mu's dp clashes like Rachel's 2c.... too much. And if that happens, she's eating 70% of your delicious life bar.

But as said, Taos must approach. Just play cat and mouse. Place steins in the air as you iad. l find random steins to also be cute in this match if you can't set them up right.

I've played this aggro tao a whole lot, even since ct, and for mu the most important thing you have to abuse IMO is the fact that tao only has 4 gaurd primers. when i get tao into an oki, the first thing i really want to do it snap off as many primers as possible. even breaking 2 is enough for the tao to get more defensive, and gives me more breathing room for stiens. if they do get in, i can usally dp through thier 6b mixups without IB'ing, and other than blocking low, get ready to break grabs. maybe im just used to the character by now in terms of how to block, but its not the end of the world to me if they get in.

i play the worst agasint tao though if i get too preocupied with stiens from a distance, and people are trying to quickly get in so i can't throw any, which basically makes them fall into rape. i dont see any use for 236a, and i kinda like expolosions for baiting thier drives right now, then punishing with sword of decimation. But tao has the tools to intellegently pressure you for a long time, you have to know how to block agaisnt her.

I think its going to end up being in her favor, seein she cant even block us for long if we take advantage of our primer breaking moves, and she can't really escape a "vortex" situaiton (dont know what else to call it, sry), added to her low health as well.

it may end up being 40-60 mu's favor IMO

btw, for crawling taos, you can try to set a stein very low to the ground with a fallling 2D. then explode it to shy them away from doing it if that's whats beating you.

Fun list of things:

Crawlable: 5A, 2A, 6A, 5B, 5C, 2C, 6C, j.A, j.B, j.C

Non-crawlable: 2B, 3C, j.2C.

This kind of sucks, now that I'm thinking about it. You just simply can't rush down. Spam 2B. It's all you've got.

So what are the holes in Tao's pressure? Her mixup isn't that great, but I feel like I'm kept blocking forever once she gets in.

Well, IB her C attacks (if you're not playing online of course). Be mindful of her 6B overhead (you can DP her while she is doing the somersault thingy I believe)...Also, while its true that she can keep you somewhat locked down, her mixup game is not that good. She can keep poking you with 2a/5b/2b->3c/ but at some point she'll either have to attempt a grab/overhead/D cancel. Pay attention to the drive cancel, a lot of taos love the d-b crossup but some of them will just 5D©->2D or flat out 5D(A)->poke. Quite a lot of taos will get predictable on their drive cancel shenanigans (I did back in ct....) so use that to your advantage.

I normally don't have too many problems with this matchup, but there's one major thing that accounts for almost all of my losses against Tao... How are you supposed to dodge her 236236C? Damn thing is pretty much a full screen command grab, and it seems to adjust its arc to always hit if you're any closer. What am I missing?

If you're on the ground, it's as simple as just ducking. You'll avoid it completely for a free punish...if you're in the air, it can be a bit trickier. She can still be hit out of it by pokes or projectiles, but if you're already committed to an attack with long recovery it might be too late.

Depending on how far you are from the corner it can lead to a 662b pickup > 5k~ fatal combo.
