Crosell Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 Werd, usually the statement of I love square soft, is usually followed by Enix ruined them. I did enjoy Square Soft, I miss games like Secret of Mana. Ah the good ol days of RPGs. Not to say I haven't been enjoying this generations RPG's

I did enjoy Square Soft, I miss games like Secret of Mana. Ah the good ol days of RPGs. Not to say I haven't been enjoying this generations RPG's I don't make statements like that unless I actually know what's up. Oh hey, you're the Makoto player I lost to at last NCI, right? What's up? How did you think I was when we played? I swear if you say FF12 or 13 were good games, I will fucking murder you :3 Nope, FF12's too boring, and you don't even need to play FF13 to know how bad it was.
Shining Aquas Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 (edited) I'm not gonna let you change topics! Everyone should get Dissidia012. In JP. Then you can play w/Yuji & me. Just got my copy in yesterday. I would, but I'm waiting for the NA release like a regular person. The difference is less than a month, why couldn't you wait? I swear if you say FF12 or 13 were good games, I will fucking murder you :3 Oh boy, here we go: I thought FFXII was slow, but I loved a lot of the storytelling and worldbuilding they used in the game. I had a lot of fun with FFXIII. While I didn't necessarily think the story was bad (it wasn't great), the way they told it was terrible. The gameplay seemed like an attempt to deconstruct the turn based combat system and turn it into something fun. It didn't work that well, but there's a lot of learning to be had from the experiment. More than anything, FF13 had some of the most amazing worldbuilding I've seen in a FF game, the whole universe for that game was fantastic. Get at me. Edited March 9, 2011 by Shining Aquas
Yggjrasil Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 I swear if you say FF12 or 13 were good games, I will fucking murder you :3 FFXI is the best game ever.
STenSatsu Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 I liked the combat for 13. Also liked the return to multiple main character story bits like 6 was. Hated how linear everything was and the story was meh imo. Never played 12. Star Ocean for life yall.
Crosell Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 (edited) I swear if you say FF12 or 13 were good games, I will fucking murder you :3 Haven't played either. BUt I really enjoyed Resonance of Fate, and The Last Remnant. And Valkyria Chronicles was the best SRPG I have ever played. Atelier Rorona was a fun game too, I'm eagerly awaiting for Totori to be release state side. And I have Tales of Vesperia awaiting to be played. @Stensatsu Hell yeah. I love Star Ocean. Too bad The Last Hope was stuck between being an actual game and just being fan service. Game had a lot of potiental and so did the battle system. Edited March 9, 2011 by Crosell
Tsubasa Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 (edited) Do I have to be able to read japanese well to properly navigate menus? Most of the pertinent text is in katakana, so it's really not that scary if you've taken a class of JP or self studied a little. Very seldomly have I hit a particularly difficult kanji wall. I would, but I'm waiting for the NA release like a regular person. The difference is less than a month, why couldn't you wait? The JP ver has an all star voice cast. Also, I have the original Dissidia in JP & I wanted to data transfer. FFXI is the best game ever. This. I personally thought XIII was alright. Certainly not an amazing game, but solid & worth my time to play through it. Never played XII, but it looks hype cause it's like XI, but offline. I'll definitely play it someday. On the subject of Star Ocean, I'm a fan of the series & I very much enjoyed Last Hope. The battle system is hype. Blind siding is mayhaps overpowered, but it was really fun & added a skill-based defensive option I felt like the game really needed. It really annoys me how blocking in Star Ocean games is stat based. I've played most of the Tales of series, so I'm really used to manual blocking, magic guard, etc. Star Ocean needs to step their game up & offer up some similar options. Crosell Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 I agree, I sort of liked what they did in Till the End of Time, minus that fact that running took away one fury so would have to stand there for a second to get enough to block. Which limited your options way to much. But yes, The Last Hope battle system was hype.

More than anything, FF13 had some of the most amazing worldbuilding I've seen in a FF game, the whole universe for that game was fantastic. Get at me. Ah see I enjoyed the story and designs of both games too. The Battle system was just atrocious though. 12 in particular. Why do I have kill 150 of the SAME thing for 3 hours just to get a chance at a rare drop? My only gripe with 13 was the battle system and the "level" system. Battles were just boring as everything boiled down to Auto Commands which was retarded. And they got rid of any need to grind in the game which sucks cause what the hell is an FF game without grinding? I also hated how linear 13 was. You could pretty only ever go one way and that was it...Why can't I explore?! Also the Tales series is hands down the greatest RPG series in existence. I wish I could read Japanese so I could play the World series or Graces. But Vesparia and Symphonia are more than enough fun for me :3
Honnou Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 First bi-weekly since forever this Thursday 8:15pm-whenev GG, marvel, whatever etc

blk_mage Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 First bi-weekly since forever this Thursday 8:15pm-whenev GG, marvel, whatever etc I might try to make it out to this. I'm going to be in SF on Thursday. And I only played FF XI for like an hour but I hated that you could level down.
Shining Aquas Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 Let's see how Thursday works out, I might be able to make it for once. I'm still on the fence about Marvel. I'm really pissed they didn't bring Megaman back, and I'm not that interested in most of the cast, but it could be silly fun maybe. I guess there's Tron Bonne/Zero/Amaterasu/Phoenix/maybe Dante left in the pool of characters I'm willing to play. Can you AdHoc JP and NA versions of Dissidia 012 with the opposing version?
Skubator Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 Thought I'd weigh in on the Final Fantasy discussion: -I liked 12. While some criticize the game for doing too much of the work for you, you don't have to use gambits, and the computer is stupid. -I didn't play 13, but I've seen maps of most of the dungeons in the game. LOOKS PRETTY HALLWAY IN HERE. -Fuck XI. Fuck it with a rake. -10 was alright. I didn't like the characters, but I liked the mechanics of it. Story was meh. -Didn't really play many Enix games; Dragon Warrior 3 on the Gameboy Color is about the extent of my experiences with Enix.
Tsubasa Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 Can you AdHoc JP and NA versions of Dissidia 012 with the opposing version? We'll try I guess. For that matter, I never actually tried adhocing between JP & NA versions of the first game. I just figured it wouldn't work. Also, I didn't have the JP Universal Tuning ver, which is closer to the NA ver of the game, so even less reason to believe that it'd work.
blk_mage Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 The na version dissidia had way more stuff in it (like more attacks for characters) so unless the jp version was patched I doubt you could play them with each other. I wonder if it'll be the same for duodecim, I'm still hoping for Vivi! :P
