Sometimes I have to wonder how does AH keep getting sequels and things. It seems like people don't care much for it even inside Japan.

People care about AH simply because it's in SBO every year because Examu puts a lot of effort into putting SBO in.

And it really depends where you go, I went to like 10 different game centers in Japan on my 2008 vacation and I didn't see anyone playing Guilty Gear let alone a GG machine, does that mean no one cares about GG in Japan? No, it just means those places didn't have a following for GG there.

If you base everything off the arcadia ranking, some of it is really iffy considering for example VF5 and all of its follow ups barely hold on anymore compared to VF4 days, but it's still up there when it comes to making money, for a lot of the newer games, you also have to take into consideration server costs for the network data, character cards, and in VF5's case possibly even the lease, since VF5 is only for rental and not for own in Japan. Also iirc arcadia mainly takes stats from the big box owned arcades, the Segas, the Namcos and the Taitos, and not necessarily the smaller mom and pop arcades. Who knows, I don't care for AH really and defending it is meh, but it's not all black and white you know for these type of things.

the rule of thumb for the average person is to just never teach anything below 3rd or 4th year, where only the people who actually care remain. Having a fairly unique specialization helps in this regard.

It's the rare person who can be a university 1st year instructor. In a lot of cases it's probably worse than elementary school since you are teaching a bunch of self-described unique snowflakes with an enormous sense of entitlement to, well, everything.

I was lucky in that i got to teach the older students coming back for a 2nd degree in my TAships; they actually cared about the course material and i could actually also talk to them as peers since they had the maturity the 1st years didn't.

Some reason I don't like volleyball anymore. It's probably because I'm good enough that I get frustrated playing with scrubs that don't know positions and plays, but not good enough to hang with the big boys who are really good. Gotta find a convenient place with a middle ground where I can play again. As well as train to get my vert back up to 3 feet. Get better Yuan. We'll play Beach volleyball in the summer.
