That isn't exactly what he's saying. What he's saying is that they deliberately play in a carefully disjointed way designed to either suppress it or bait it out, thus discouraging defenders from freely using it by not giving them obvious patterns/moments to invoke it on. There's an old sentiment in 3S about how parrying makes people do weird things and play "random for the sake of being random". This doesn't mean that attacks never get parried, nor that attacks never get used, but that the strength of parrying changes how players attack each other. There's really never been a universal defensive option that is this powerful in GG in terms of its activation speed, what it's capable of stopping, and the rewards given to the defender for a single instance of success. Supers are much slower, more expensive, and don't grant the arbitrary knockdown/reset/whatever you can pick from the combo of your choice you land following a successful BS. -

Slashback cannot be used as a wakeup reversal AFAIK, and otherwise Slashback is much closer to a parry than BS is. When a BS catches a non-projectile attack, it instantly puts the opponent into the Rejected state. When SB catches an attack, it gives the defender faster recovery, but it doesn't put a stop to the attacker's current action, nor does it grant any temporary invulnerability. Trying to SB a multi-hitting move/projectile requires a timed input for every hit of it. SB costs much less tension to activate. The rewards for a successful BS are generally much, much higher than for a successful SB. I don't know if there's a minimum period for the Rejected state (e.g. is there a window in which they cannot counter BS while Rejected), but the stun period is very long and there is no proration. There's a very legitimate argument that without YRC OS techniques, it makes non-projectile oki feel really odd. -
Does this work with a sliding input (think FDC j.2k) or only with a simultaneous input? If it only works with simultaneous input, that means this only works when you don't have a burst?

The title of the thread is really misleading. It should really be "Two opposing view of GGAC", because that's actually what they disagree on.

236S is +3 on hit, which means it safely sets up the dumbest instant overhead Faust has ever had in GGXX: forward pogo hop YRC j.K

Considering how many strong options there were against reversals in prior GG games, I'm surprised that reversals needed nerfing. For how many characters in the past was wakeup DP actually a good idea? In Xrd the startup times for the DPs are still pretty similar to what they were in the past (5F for Chipp and Sol's fastest DPs, 9F for Ky), and now as the attacker you can even option select against the active frames of your oki attack whiffing with YRC. Not being able to mash out a reversal arguably makes the game more beginner-friendly for the attacker, because they can get away with sloppier wakeup games. Why learn safe jumps and the like when the other guy is going to likely a) not reversal and just block/mash throw, or b) fail his reversal and get hit anyway? Who knows, maybe there are even crazy weird option selects for the reversals that would be possible with a wider window that would result in infuriatingly safe defense. I think the "stuff needs to always be strictly timed so that there is a clear advantage to having solid execution" argument gets sloped into a case where all special moves should demand 1F strictness: it would clearly separate those who have that stable, ST-like execution from those that don't, but for the most part it'd just be a nuisance. I do wish there was something to help people practice reversals, though. With a window that is that tight, trying to practice it without a training mode visual to indicate what the right timing is means that it can be difficult to tell whether you are executing it too slowly, or executing it at the wrong time. We already had FRC timing display in training mode of all the previous GG games, and there's even a mission on safe jumping, so there's plenty of precedent for training of these character specific windows.

Arcadia's monthly tier list is out and it's fun to look at. Faust and Zato-1 are in Xrd's S tier in Arcadia's monthly ranking. Ogawa adds chipp to that. Clearly I should play Xrd. Potemkin's roids have finally worn off and now he's alone in bottom tier. After all those little changes, the top of USF4 is Fei, Cammy, Akuma. Something something ssf4 VF5FS having a "large gap" between upper and lower tier is hilarious. look at those poor low tier trash, being kept down by the glass ceiling Why is there a 3S tier list? It hasn't changed in forever, and the only change here is separating Chun from Yun, which some have done years ago. blitzkampf EE tier list hahaha The garou motw list is actually interesting. Kevin is a long acknowledged powerhouse, same with B.Jenet. Gato's good, but I think some disagree about him being as abusive as Kevin. But Kain and Grant being the same tier as Kevin and Jenet?! Dong Hwan and Jae Hoon being in the same tier? Wow, I'm really out of touch with the game. Yu standing alone in S+ tier in P4AUU dat mc power... actually, how often is it that story main characters are top tier in fighting games?

Will you be in town between the 26th and 31st? I'll be back in Vancouver during then. End of Mike's Apartment = end of an era best run we had T_Tm

Any particular kind of law? Contract law seems up your alley, but if you suddenly decided to become Phoenix Wright IRL I wouldn't be that surprised. UPenn recently got a new law school building (it finished building just before I finished up there), and is by all accounts a fine law school, usually a top 10 one. The Wharton business school is routinely ranked #1 in the nation, though being as such means having to have to be around a lot of MBAs if you choose to be there a lot. Being a very old school and one with a pretty solid reputation, the recruiting there is really awesome for business and engineering.
