rtl42 Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 (edited) "AAA" typically refers to games with very high or even near-unlimited budgets. It doesn't necessarily mean that they're as good as they cost, but it does mean that they are attempting to compete with other titles that have similar financial backing, and expectations of the title's quality are commensurate. Starcraft 2 is a AAA title. DA:O is a AAA title. Gears of War is a AAA title. Final Fantasy XIV, bad as it is, is a AAA title. See the games in Steam's "indie" category? None of those are AAA titles. Think about what "B movie" means in terms of expectations, and that's pretty much the idea of the scale. "B games" exist just as "B movies" do. thx! Edited February 24, 2011 by rtl42
Orikasa Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 Who wants to teach me MAHVEL?! I gotta drop off my stick for Ray soon. But fuck, it gon' be cold. FUCK YOU SCHOOL.
sweetvids Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 Marvel's the new Melty Blood. Easy as hell to learn. 20 minutes in the lab and you'll look like you actually know what you're doing.
MrDolphin Posted February 24, 2011 Posted February 24, 2011 It helps that the vast majority of the character's bnbs are conceptually the same. String to launcher, air string to S, OTG to relaunch/hyper.
ghostgoodboy Posted February 25, 2011 Posted February 25, 2011 shit why is it gotta be so cold? well at least it makes my frozen shift like a cake.
geogaddi Posted February 25, 2011 Posted February 25, 2011 friday and not a single boss in sight AWWWYEAAAAAAAAAAAAa

BagLunch Posted February 26, 2011 Posted February 26, 2011 wtf Aquapazza in this year's SBO i don't know what to think
BagLunch Posted February 26, 2011 Posted February 26, 2011 If you haven't already read it, Iwata Asks with Ono is hella interesting. Both had engineering background back in the days when stuff was all done in assembly language (Ono's really got a lot of diverse skills!), and Ono talks about one of his failure projects (not CFJ).
BagLunch Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 I haven't enjoyed making a powerpoint slide so much in recent memory.
geogaddi Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 wow. this weather is truly mvp. its not that much snow but not dunbar nor 49h is plowed at all. as i was coming down dunbar the bus was just crawlimg along. in the distance i see the 49bus..parked. i think to myself tat im fucked as it leaves. as i get off at dunbar FIVE number seven busses follow the one i just got off. then a 48swings by again not even stopping om side of the road. it just parks in the middle and lets us on. this dude tells me how he waited for two hours or a 41 bus fucking storm but most of all fuck vancityworks. cant even handle like barely two inches of snow
BagLunch Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 snowstorm so fierce that posting from vancouver has stopped THE ICE STORM
sweetvids Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 Everyone forced into their labs for the day.
BagLunch Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Sadly, I didn't get to attend Winter Brawl. jwong's She-Hulk/Ammy/Tron team is impressive. Really strong vs. Sentinel, and She-Hulk has incredible mixup/reset abilities. Tron flame tech trap wtf Haggar blowing people up was awesome
sweetvids Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 People starting to figure out his Wolverine combo, which was super deadly, but that She-Hulk team I think is even nastier in certain aspects.
ghostgoodboy Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Fear is something that's hard-wired into us from an evolutionary standpoint. It heightens the senses, gives us a burst of adrenaline and helps us react to fight or flight situations. So why then, does all of this kick in when we're playing a video game? We're not actually being attacked by monsters for real. We're not in any genuine imminent danger. In fact, the truth is, it’s all about immersion, and making you feel like you are there. In Dead Space 2, there's always this all-pervading sense of peril and the ever-looming threat of death lurking around each and every corner, and it still feels real, even if it isn't because of the believable world and moody atmosphere that Visceral has created. Suffice to say then, that Dead Space 2 is bloody terrifying. I can' count how many times I have jumped off my chair with highest volume in my ears in my dark cubic overnight, also how many times Issac died.
rtl42 Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 did you actually write that Ray, or did you just cp from somewhere else lol. the style is too... journalistic.
nagai Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Dead Space 2... so good that it makes Ray write like a journalist. I just ordered my copy now... hoping it'll be even scarier than the 1st
ghostgoodboy Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 yes it's too good that makes me wanna write a professional brief about it. Though the jumping part is probably a little bit trolling because I'm vet and shit don't hit me that easily anymore. Nevertheless, they spiced up the game more by implementing some diversified maneuvers which I really like it, as well as some dynamic(!!) tackling with the Necrosis and a few new "mutant" types. too bad Long you're a PSN, otherwise we should definitely bro up online.
MrDolphin Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 I didn't think Dead Space 2 was scary at all beyond the first 3 chapters. Once you get used to the BLAURRGGH MONSTER IN YOUR FACE AND LOUD SOUND and realize Issac is armed to the motherfucking teeth, then the fear kinda disappears. If you want a truly terrifying game go play Amnesia. Also Ray I thought you couldn't go online because your box is modded.
geogaddi Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 If you want a truly terrifying game go play Amnesia Fucking this. Horror-based games are nothing unless you truly cannot do anything but run and hide. It's kind of the reason why games like DOOM and FEAR are nothing to play and experience, whereas shit like Fatal Frame is more psychological and fucks with you, but there is still a way out (via PEW PEW PEW CAMERA SHOT). But Amnesia is like a perfect blend, implementing odd puzzles with weird ambiance to induce psychological horror and coupled with the fact that your character honestly has no weapons? Fuck me. First I played Penumbra and that was ok. Then I played Amnesia. Then I didn't play Amnesia.
BagLunch Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 The problem with instant-death games like Siren, Amnesia, etc. is that since you can't do anything but run the hell away it makes death this sort of par-for-the-course thing. After awhile, I find that I just get deadened to the dying, and it turns into an experience where the trial and error become glaringly apparent. When instant death games pop stuff out at you, I find that my first course of action is to walk right up to it to find out whether or not it's going to kill me instantly so that I can figure out whether or not it's actually going to block my way as quickly as possible. I think that I'm exposed to horror stuff little enough that grotesque imagery and SCARY BOOGIEMAN NOISES still kinda works on me; it's funny, I've played so many games that the interactive/game component of horror just doesn't work on me, but the basic horror imagery does. I have to say that I like the near-pastiche style of horror in RE5. Things are just TOO AWESOME to be legitimately scary, with the horror setting providing an entertaining backdrop for awesome adventures (motorcycle riding zombies swinging chains is so 80s awesome that it can't be scary).
ghostgoodboy Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 I tried to install Amnesia on Chang's PC, didn't work lol. Wu you have it on steam? spread that fear. Yuan, it's more like I'm lazy to get another 50 feet e-cable and tape-skywalk it through the living room ceiling to hook up to my XBOX and the gay and tediously long membership cancellation formalities I get when I'd like a break from live. Still I can go online with any legit copy.
