Mightfo Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 (edited) okay ive been doing A LOT of practicing with Saiki i have really grown fond of this character any tips anyone can give on him??? http://wiki.shoryuken.com/The_King_of_Fighters_XIII/Saiki has some good stuff, including frame data! i guess 2b, 5c, and 5d are your main pokes when you dont want to dedicate to a fireball(which is godlike, when pressuring with it be careful about rolls and jumps and reflects of course) his big damage is mostly in the corner,(otherwise, mostly attrition i guess?) he has some really sick juggles there note how his air command normals change his air momentum. his sweep is good but remember to special cancel it(remember, cds and sweeps are almost always whiff cancellable) dp super is really fast command grab super helps his mixup(and punishes) and he has some good normals for pressure sorry if that was too basic. :P i think there were some good practical saiki combo videos posted on srk recently? i dunno. check dreamcancel too. have fun with him, he didn't really click with me but he's cool~ Edited January 18, 2012 by Mightfo

BTW best combo so far with him j.HK HP 214LK(DC) 236HP 236LP 623LK(SC) 236236 LP/HP 214HK (HK teleport) 236236LK/HK dont know if this is the right notation for this game but this is how ima do it Edited January 18, 2012 by E3vE3 WAZ HEA
Haven Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 thanks man this should help a lot since im lost xbl today ill have plenty of time to practice offline and based on what my friend told me, athena makes a good battery as she can do decent damage without needing a lot of meter however for now i put them in order from my less exp one to the one i kno most (had the demo before the game so i have some sence of what im doing with kula) Yeah, make sure you have character order set up, Kula can seriously cover every role in a team so it's best not to worry about her position until the other two have been figured out :P
Star-Demon Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 I think Athena really depends on your style. I'm not even worrying about my order because I don't even know the characters yet.
AyaImmortal Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 Yeah, make sure you have character order set up, Kula can seriously cover every role in a team so it's best not to worry about her position until the other two have been figured out :P Actually she is probably better suited to take the lead because she builds so much meter. She can play every role sure but you probably should have her in front as she can build you a ton of HD meter and HC gauge. ps: Ex kyo is god tier pps: furix is free (hi furix)
furix Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 Haha 'sup, long time no see. :o I don't really even play this that much tbqh. I kinda got bored of it, I only play it when a friend comes over... But, I am too lazy to practice anything in it(Or most fighting games now days). I just stick to the same 3 characters I used in the arcade version. EDIT: Is the netplay still terrible and unplayable?
qwerty Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 If you play locally it's actually not that bad. Otherwise it's unplayable.

Yeah it has been a long time, I mainly play marvel now because I intend to go to evo this year. So im training hardcore. I like this game but I am just to into Umvc3. I love the game too much lol
furix Posted January 19, 2012 Posted January 19, 2012 Oh I see. Yeah, UMVC3 is nuts, but, I don't really play that either haha. Sad to hear netplay is still ass. I bet it will never be fixed(ATLUS said something about contacting SNK and they said they'll fix it... but c'mon! It's SNK! They can't get netplay right haha). Oh well, I do have a friend or two to play with offline still anyway. I don't need the netplay.
Starlight777 Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 This is a good game, the problem is I need friends to enjoy it.
Star-Demon Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 This is a good game, the problem is I need friends to enjoy it. This.
Vulcan422 Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 The problem is that this game has fucking awful netcode and no release date for the patch has been set because of SNK Delaymore.
E3vE3 WAZ HEA Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 Actually she is probably better suited to take the lead because she builds so much meter. Mightfo Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 They can't get netplay right haha They did it once with ngbc ;.; And i heard some other random kof port had good netcode..95 or something(Whyyyy one that nobody cares about?!)
furix Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 Oh, haha, that's so random... Hopefully they can find a way to... find what they did right during those games then. D:

I just wanted to make sure for a friend, which spot would Kim benefit the most from in a match?
AyaImmortal Posted January 20, 2012 Posted January 20, 2012 I usually do play her in the lead for that reason, it's just funny that I have seen her play every role so well. :P You are right though. I just wanted to make sure for a friend, which spot would Kim benefit the most from in a match? I would think last because his most damaging combos require a sizable amount of meter. If you learn his harder Bnb's I suppose he could be first but just run him last as he is a powerhouse
BladeDiva Posted January 22, 2012 Posted January 22, 2012 I need to start actually going online with this game. Came back to it yesterday and I'm still just derping around with Arcade/color unlocks. I think I wanna change my team up though. I'm using Athena/Yuri/Leona because I just threw my 3 favorites onto a team, and there's several characters I might want to swap in there. Leona is the character I'm most comfortable with playing, in the game in-general, and I've been accustomed to Yuri's general moveset from way back, but the team doesn't seem coherent or simple enough for a first-learning team. And yet Athena is by FAR my favorite, even though I'm not as good with her, so she WILL be on my team without dispute. If I switch someone it'll probably be Yuri, just because Leona seems so natural and effective for me compared to, well, the whole rest of the game, haha. People I'm considering swapping in there are Kyo, Ash, and King. I have EX Kyo and I'm still undecided which one I'd rather play. Saiki's moveset is absolutely delicious to me, but I hate his character. Which is oddball since my motivation to play Ash is mostly because I love the bastard so much. =P ...Any suggestions?

BladeDiva Posted January 22, 2012 Posted January 22, 2012 I keep seeing 3-bar connection rooms, that as soon as I enter become 2-bar. All of a sudden I can't pull off any of my shit. I mean, I entered a 3-bar room that got laggy enough that I couldn't perform Phoenix Arrow. Also, I really suck at this game. =P

Bolverk-GTM Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 (edited) AyaImmortal posting more than once on DustLoop within the last couple of weeks? What the fuck? I think I wanna change my team up though. I'm using Athena/Yuri/Leona because I just threw my 3 favorites onto a team, and there's several characters I might want to swap in there. blah blah blah... ...Any suggestions? As for you, I would say that as many times as I've changed characters throughout KoF, you are much better off just picking characters you like and then sticking to them, no matter what. Aside from the fact I entered KoF lacking a grasp of basic fundamentals, one of the biggest killing factors for me when I came into KoF was that I could never stick with all of my characters. I'd have a primary set in stone, but my other two characters would constantly change because I always felt one of them was my weakest link and I would attempt to fix the problem by switching them out for somebody else. For that, I would get my ass beat even harder because I was starting off with 0 match experience AGAIN with this new character being on the team. It wasn't until I started playing '98 and 2K2 on GGPO that I decided "Okay, I'll stick with...Kyo." So for every team I had, Kyo was always there. When XIII came out, Kyo was always on my team, no matter how I changed the team. To this date, Kyo has been on every single one of my teams in KoF XIII (though NESTS Kyo is technically considered a different character, it's still Kyo) and it shows a big difference between my gameplay on day one and now. Kyo was a very hard character for me to pick up and I couldn't play him to save my life at first, but unlike the rest of my ever constantly changing team, I gave him the light of day. I gave him time and allowed progression to kick in as I absorbed information and continued playing the game with him because I absolutely wanted him to click with me. For that, my efforts finally began to pay off no less than a month ago. I'll still change my team a little bit here and there, but the changes always stay within the same 4 characters I've been getting match experience with. As much as I want to play King, I'm waiting on picking her up until I become viable with what I have now. The summary of this giant post is basically what I said in the first paragraph. Just pick characters you like and stick with them, no matter what. Your efforts won't pay off in a day and they sure won't pay off in a week. Hell, they may not even pay off in 3 months. Regardless, your efforts WILL eventually pay off if you just stick to the characters you want to play. Edited January 23, 2012 by Bolverk-GTM
BladeDiva Posted January 23, 2012 Posted January 23, 2012 (edited) Bolverk: Thank you, although it's funny that you said what you did specifically. I went ahead and did Kyo -> Athena -> Leona, since I was looking for a good lead. Technically Athena and Leona ARE good leads, but that wasn't where I wanted them, lol. I went ahead and used EX Kyo even though he seemed harder to use/learn. For one thing, I really like RED Kick a lot more than normal Kyo's uppercut-kick equivalent. For another, I'm starting to like Goodbye Esaka more and more as I keep hearing it. =D (I almost picked Ash for lead even though he's like the worst lead-choice ever, just to have Second Joker as my 2P fight theme, no joke.) As far as sucking like hell goes, I actually wasn't doing too bad, especially with EX Kyo. I played 10 matches in the daytime and 10 at night yesterday, winning 1 each time. All 9 of my losses last night were against someone who had a decent connection, was just-enough better than me to face-wreck my team while still giving me room to keep trying, and didn't kick me. It was glorious. Kevin Kallback or something was the GT. I saved all 20 Replays; I need to record some of them and upload for critique. Several things I've noticed: 1) My composure tends to go to hell as soon as the actual match starts, and my fingers start flubbing. Any match where I'm actually performing inputs correctly displays a huge jump in competence. 2) While I do need to practice my hops, the netcode issues make 'hop control' a non-factor in most cases online. 3) I still need to watch the half-circle motions when I'm trying to do quarter-circles instead. 4) My aerial game is horrid, if not nonexistent. 5) I make much better use of my meter by using reversal supers than I do by using it for combos and EX-special approaches. I need to stop flinging EX moves to try to get in, so I have the meter ready for reversals. 6) There always seems to be that one move that, so long as you refrain from being completely predictable, a particular player will fall for every time. For the Kevin person it was Strike Arch, for example. 7) On that note, I need to learn where my own overheads are, particularly with Athena. Out of my team, I'm still playing worst with Athena, but doing the best with her, simply because no one seems to know how to play against her. =D Edited January 23, 2012 by BladeDiva
Bolverk-GTM Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 I went ahead and used EX Kyo even though he seemed harder to use/learn. For one thing, I really like RED Kick a lot more than normal Kyo's uppercut-kick equivalent. For another, I'm starting to like Goodbye Esaka more and more as I keep hearing it. =D He IS harder to learn. XIII Kyo is by far the easiest incarnation of Kyo yet. He has a history of being a pretty difficult character to use and EX Kyo brings that history back in XIII. He was and still is hard to play, but he is a BEAST when he's played well. Also, the arranged Goodbye ESAKA is my favorite track in XIII's OST. Generally I prefer EX Kyo over XIII Kyo, simply because I'm more comfortable with his move set and I don't mind having to work hard to get in. It's absolutely worth it when he does get in anyways. 1) My composure tends to go to hell as soon as the actual match starts, and my fingers start flubbing. Any match where I'm actually performing inputs correctly displays a huge jump in competence. I have this same problem every now and again. It happens to a lot of people that worry too much about the first impression they make on an opponent. I've gotten better at controlling myself with it though. I just kinda watch how they move around for the first match and I tend to play footsies until I can determine how to fight them. Every match after that is just trial and error on offense. Usually I have a player figured out within a few matches, but there's definitely some exceptions (AyaImmortal, a tough one to crack). Anything else I'm losing to is just a matter of not knowing how to deal with it. 7) On that note, I need to learn where my own overheads are, particularly with Athena. That's the best joke I've heard all day. Your only overheads with Athena are her jump normals. She's not a mix-up heavy rushdown character, she's a zoner.
BladeDiva Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 (edited) Here we go. This footage isn't exactly driving home the "most comfortable with Leona" idea. I did slightly better with her in the nighttime matches, but I think what really happened is that I spent so much time exploring for my 3rd member, and practicing them/Athena, that I hadn't been practicing with Leona at all, even for inputs. I couldn't even remember which direction my DM commands were, half the time. o_O http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WrkQgwoD1gQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G2pe8Mrz4V8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6pZqfvgAHdQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ou-W1gVSinc I have this same problem every now and again. It happens to a lot of people that worry too much about the first impression they make on an opponent. I think for me it's more motor-skill problems; if I get at all tense whatsoever, my fingers tend to lock up, etc. I'll fail a DP motion because my thumb didn't realize that it hadn't actually moved to push the button, and such. EDIT: Oh, by the way, does freakin' ANYBODY play Claw Iori on XBL? I saw both Kyos, and I didn't even see a lot of Kyo. Practically everyone I saw played Iori, though, and not once did anybody use the claw version. Edited January 24, 2012 by BladeDiva
