Bolverk-GTM Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 Kazuki we should play today. I've been out of the game for too long and I need to get back in by playing someone I haven't fought yet. I was going to wait until my iNPiN arrives before I start playing KoF again, but I don't even care now.
Star-Demon Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 GG's Star-Demon. If I may, I think you should definitely practice jumping around in training mode a bit. Or just try it out in arcade or something, because I notice that you don't really jump a lot with any of your characters accept for Mai. Most of the time, the reason the other two were in the air was because of a special move put them there. I'm guessing that you just don't have a lot of confidence in jumping how you want consistently, but I think it would really help you out and give you ways of opening up your opponents. Speaking of which, despite the fact that all of our matches were close, I notice that you just couldn't "finish me off." This makes me think that you are currently having trouble creating situations to attack your opponent, and getting most of your damage just off of my bonehead mistakes (and believe me, I'm just a beginner too, so I make a lot of them, lol). Like I said, practicing your jumping would really help (just so you can get that basic high/low mixup and pressure), along with looking up/trying out frame traps for your characters (such as how I would try to pin you to the ground just a moment longer by using Kensou's fireball after his rekka series). Not that you didn't have any kind of pressure at all, but it seemed more special-oriented than it probably should be, if that makes sense. Thanks - I'm still getting used to normals on my characters (I think Mai and Mature seem to be my best in normals), and on Vice I just have a hard time understanding what to use when. I don't really know how I would learn the frame traps for my characters. on Mature's super, I would try to keep you cornered, but I'm not sure how. on Mai, I try to do as Litchi would, keep you cornered, but ryuuenbu has two versions, and I'm not sure which to use on which - maybe because they knock down and start up differently. I need a good mai and vice to learn from. Most good players that play them use them as anchors and I never see them. Everyone fucking plays Clark and Kula, instead, so they've been rolling the big tourneys. I was thinking of registering on Dream Cancel, but I'm not sure if I should.
Bolverk-GTM Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 on Vice I just have a hard time understanding what to use when. I know very well that someone already told you all you need to know about playing Vice. I'm sure if I read that info again, went into training mode and practiced with her for a couple of hours, I could play her decently. Vice is all about making people afraid to jump, but also afraid of getting command grabbed (which they want to jump out of). There's a few characters in KoF that are particularly good at making people too scared to do anything and Vice is definitely one of them. I don't really know how I would learn the frame traps for my characters. For starters, a universal frame trap in KoF is cr.B > cl.C. I'm pretty sure every character can do it. If you want to find more frame traps, then just go into training mode and do the jump test. If you don't know what the jump test is, it's measuring how much advantage a move has by setting the training dummy to jump after it blocks a move. Thankfully KoF XIII has an option in training mode that sets the dummy to jump after blocking an attack so you don't have to pause and set the dummy to jump after it blocks the attack you're testing. All you have to do is just throw out whatever move you're testing, then hold up. When both characters have jumped, pause the game and compare them. Whoever jumped first determines whether you have the advantage on block or not. NOTE: If it's not obvious, the move is + frames on block if your character jumped first and it's - frames on block if the dummy jumped first. Also I can tell you now that a really easy frame trap with Mature is staggering her rekkas. Keep in mind I said "easy" and not "good." I need a good mai and vice to learn from. Most good players that play them use them as anchors and I never see them. Can't help you with Mai, but I know a good Vice player. Problem is he's on 360. I could take my capture card and record some match videos of him one of these times I go over to his place for casuals (we usually have them weekly). I was thinking of registering on Dream Cancel, but I'm not sure if I should. It won't kill you. Nobody there bites or anything.

I'm sure if I read that info again, went into training mode and practiced with her for a couple of hours, I could play her decently. I'll go back and find it. If I recall it I think it TL;DRed into "combos, run up and grab, EX deicide" or something similar. I'll give it a more careful read, but I'll have ot put it to practice, somehow. I still can't get the jumpin starter to go fast enough.. Vice is all about making people afraid to jump, but also afraid of getting command grabbed (which they want to jump out of). There's a few characters in KoF that are particularly good at making people too scared to do anything and Vice is definitely one of them. Hmmm. Food for thought. Someone uploaded a series on Vice combos, I never got around to watching it while playing.
Star-Demon Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 Found the post, gonna try some things and play.
Star-Demon Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 Hah! I figured it out pretty quick. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-RA00hEozq4 It can just come right out, too.
kotokot Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 lol, i thought it was j.2363214ABC 2141236AC. And every char can do shown in video)
Star-Demon Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 Streaming some KOF tonight - http://www.twitch.tv/starsickle
NickExtreme1 Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 Ok so my main team so far is Shen/Kula/Maxima. I still haven't unlocked Saiki yet and really want to play as him. I always manage to find the worst times to try and complete Arcade Mode lol. Please tell me one of you has a 360 copy to play against me :/
Vulcan422 Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 I have it, but I'm waiting until online is fixed because unless I'm basically playing my neighbor, or someone within SoCal, it's laggy as hell and the game basically turns into Street Fighter 2.
Star-Demon Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 (edited) I'm not sure how I'm gonna max cancel with vice. I'm not sure what side she's actually on on the last hit or if the last hit is when I do it. I'll have to go find that video. Mature or Mai shouldn't be hard. EDIT: Figured it out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pp6MLXuT7EM Edited December 30, 2011 by Star-Demon
FormerlyUnknown Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 yeah you can tell what side vice is one because she's facing 'forward' in the beginning of the neomax. doesn't help if you've never seen the cancel, but that's why it's in the missions o3o edit: she turns around....is i guess an easier way to say that

Bolverk-GTM Posted December 31, 2011 Posted December 31, 2011 Yeah, I had to find the combo video, but once I saw that it didn't take long at all. now I just need to be able to move round and defend myself LOL and also learn combos into those supers and max cancels.
kazukifafner Posted December 31, 2011 Posted December 31, 2011 To that end, you should check out this video covering various HD tricks. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t3--8cnXsFU
Star-Demon Posted December 31, 2011 Posted December 31, 2011 and also learn combos into those supers and max cancels. Well, I've been learning little bits using deicide and mayhem. I'm doing Vice first.
Star-Demon Posted January 1, 2012 Posted January 1, 2012 48 more losses in a row. Awesome. There's some dude named Krizalid who's got like 2300 ranked wins. Crazy. He must really like this game.
FormerlyUnknown Posted January 1, 2012 Posted January 1, 2012 i have to say I'm quite impressed with your drive star, you are an example for all of us who are bad at these games (no offense meant) to keep fighting (~'3')~ i could never have handled 48 straight losses
NickExtreme1 Posted January 1, 2012 Posted January 1, 2012 Yoooooo Billy Kane is so godlike, dropping Kula for him now.
Konflyk Posted January 1, 2012 Posted January 1, 2012 48 more losses in a row. Awesome. There's some dude named Krizalid who's got like 2300 ranked wins. Crazy. He must really like this game. He's named after a boss character, I'm sure he loves this game. Sadly the netplay is trash in some aspects I can only play with people 3bars or higher with low ping. Glad I have a local scene that meets regularly to play with.

Star-Demon Posted January 1, 2012 Posted January 1, 2012 Will be streaming some KOF13 today. I've figured out a few things on vice and I need to tighten up my execution. What sucks are my fundamentals, though. I have no idea what to do other than press a lot of 292929272727 and just get faster reaction time (is this possible?). I don't get it.
FormerlyUnknown Posted January 1, 2012 Posted January 1, 2012 as much as i love mature (and god i LOVE mature), i can't do her rekkas at all D= let alone her EX rekkas. Is there a trick to this???
Star-Demon Posted January 1, 2012 Posted January 1, 2012 (edited) The trick to her rekkas is to be crisp. Use a crisp motion and get a rhythm. It gets chaotic in a match so it's very difficult to do it, but one you do one just remember that you DO have enough time to be crisp about the other two. Just like Fei Long, try not to do past the second one on block. Good guideline on rekkas, I guess. This game has a lot of rhythm to it, I think. Look at what I can do! I don't understand why it's green. Edited January 1, 2012 by Star-Demon
natearistata Posted January 1, 2012 Posted January 1, 2012 I am more surprised that the dude managed to find 2300 games to play in the first place
