LightningCancel Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 Beh, someone beat me to uploading it. XD I just got mine in today. XD Enjoy your soundtrack!
theria Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 Actually, Valentine got the headache as well, once that I've seen, in a short back-shot of her before Sol-tachi arrived in Illuria's capitol. My brother and I don't think she is a Gear, though obviously not a normal human either. [Several play reports have mentioned that apparently she came into being in the Backyard. And in the Epilogue, Raven and That Man supposedly mention that Valentine #2 and #3 have appeared...] Though it will probably only create more headaches, here was my stab at the dialogue in Battle #17 (I don't think I tossed this up before) which does touch vaguely on the Valentine topic. Sol: What are you planning with this? Ano Otoko: This (assault?)? Or our reunion? Sol: I don’t have the time to deal with your joking. The chain of incitement ties to that “Cube” you made. Sol: What are you planning! Ano Otoko: Everything, has suddenly occurred in the span of only these few several centuries. It can no longer be endured by the “Cube”. Ano Otoko: Everything in a rush, I think it is truly inexcusable to you. …however, now I would like you to concentrate on Valentine. Ano Otoko: If that (Valentine) comes in contact with the “Cube” core, …I fear that it is likely that humanity will be destroyed (extinct). Sol: Valentine… what is that? Moreover, that appearance… Ano Otoko: The evil consequence of “Compassionless Apocalypse/Revelation (Jihinakikeiki, 慈悲無き啓示)”… at its present phase, that has no consciousness. Simply, if touched, “something” will break. Sol: “Compassionless Apocalypse”? Ano Otoko: There is no time for explaining. Sol: Tch, if I kill Valentine, isn’t it just convenient/advantageous for you? Ano Otoko: ….fufu. Because….I am self-righteous (dokuzenteki, 独善的) Sol's "headaches" might be related to all of the non-conventional magics running around. He early-on referenced something called "Soul-Sinker", which in context seems to refer to an idea or theory of magic manifestation that has not been actualized to his knowledge.
KD Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 So is there any word of unlockables or possible downloadable stuff for Overture?
Zazz Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 So is there any word of unlockables or possible downloadable stuff for Overture? i know i heard someone mention before the release that daisuke was open to the idea of downloadable characters down the line but with its abysmal sales (lol 360), i don't think Arc Sys would want to sink more effort & money into this game and would just want to jump right back into profitable 2D fighters or just they could send it over to Aksys ( plz ) and have them localize it here and pretty much guaranteed to get atleast triple its japanese sales
Rift Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 Seriously, it's doing poorly in Japan? I figured it wouldn't do so badly, considering it's coming out after Lost Odyssey, which should have raised the 360 sales in Japan significantly. Well it seriously needs that NA release, I got the japanese demo, and it's pretty damn fun. The game's great, except that the controls are slightly awkward (push in left stick to RC? Weird). I will be buying this game if it's made available.

I figured it wouldn't do so badly, considering it's coming out after Lost Odyssey, which should have raised the 360 sales in Japan significantly. Its opening week of sales was a grand total of: 4,978 its second week is: 1,329 Lost Odyssey is doing better with a total of 57,920. Hell even the 360 ver. of Virtua Fighter 5 netted 12,529 this week. Overture just did awful in Japan. http://vgchartz.com/japweekly.php?date=39425&console=X360&maker=&disp=Japanese+Name&boxartz=3
Suzaku Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 Well, I am not surprised, though it's a bit sad to see. Maybe next time Ishiwatari will come up with a more palatable format. Nobody seemed to thrilled about it being for 360 or the change in genre. I mean, there's nothing wrong with doing something new, but... Yeah. Here's a bit of stuff I came across, I'm sure some people will be glad to have it. Translations may not be 100%, though. I'm not sure if the personality and backstory sections are official, something seems a bit off about them, to me. RAVEN (Seiyuu: Yasumoto Hiroki) Name: Raven Age: (He doesn't remember) Birthday: March 28th Bloodtype: A Height: 181cm Likes: People who make him feel malicious. People who make discoveries and inventions. Dislikes: Himself, who can love nothing. Hobbies: Prooving his own existance. Personality: Though far from a gentleman, he is nevertheless calm and unemotional, and speaks with an air of maturity. While he appears to be gentle, feeling pain awakens his memories of pleasure, and when he enters a state of high tension, his tempermant shifts from quiet to confrontational in hopes of coaxing out more pain. He seems to generally have good intentions, but his loyalty to That Man is unquestionable, despite his own reasons for participating in the incident being unclear. He has a strong interest in anyone who can give his emotions a big jolt. Backstory: One of the three associates of "That Man", who had previously lead the world into a period of fear. Due to an unknown trick, even if he is reduced to rubbish, his immortal body will regenerate back to full health. He agrees with "That Man's" actions, and is genuinely loyal to him, though his personal goals are unknown. THAT MAN (Seiyuu: Tomokazu Sugita) Name: Unknown Age: Unknown Birthday: Unknown Bloodtype: Unknown Height: Unknown Likes: Unknown Dislikes: Unknown Hobbies: Unknown Personality: Unknown Backstory: The mysterious man who's been constantly engaged in secret maneuvers throughout history, and who put the Gear Project into operation. He is the ringleader that spawned the living weapons known as Gears, and triggered the Crusades. His actions are influenced by the weight of the hatred of countless people which he bears, yet his purposes still aren't immediately evident. Sol was once an old friend of his, and the two share an especially deep, kharmic relationship.
Sephi_hatu Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 Well, I think putting a very japan centric game on any next gen console was a dumb move to begin with. Neither the 360 or PS3 has the market penetration to support mediocre titles in japan. And the Wii 3rd party stuff isnt exactly doing to hot in japan (No More Heroes (Which will sell in america, even if I have to buy 10,000 copies)). The game woulda had to have been the second coming of christ to sell well.
Suzaku Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 Oh yeah, and could someone please mirror that first video of Raven from Page 1? It's already been deleted from that Japanese uploader site.
Suzaku Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 As far as I know, the stuff in the X series seems to still count, I guess it just doesn't tie into the main story much. I guess. It's hard to get clear information on the game. Raven's role in the game seems pretty limited, actually. I'm not sure if the three associates (also translates a braintrust) still includes I-No, but the only one that appears is Raven.

Sephi_hatu Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 well there is that art of That Man and his 3 Friends: I-no, Raven, and third unknown one with the tall featureless mask Ya, the third one is unofficially 'KKK guy' cause he has a tall pointy hat. It was in lightning the argent. The pics floating around somewhere...
Suzaku Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 well there is that art of That Man and his 3 Friends: I-no, Raven, and third unknown one with the tall featureless mask I'm well aware of that, but there's also the Eddie-like thing hanging from the cieling, and I-no may have been decomissioned in XX, if the X series has any bearing at all on GG2. Which it may not. Well if anyone wants a second look at it: http://www.guiltygear.ru/images/gallery/ggxplus_sm_so3.jpg That's actually not the one we were talking about, but it's another example of the three, nonetheless. Still, at any rate, Raven's the only one to appear. PS, can anyone reupload that video, or at least post a decent screenshot of him? I need to revise my old sprite / make a new one with appropriate changes for his new look, and the boss battle video of him is nearly impossible to make out. Edit: Tracklist for Guilty Gear 2 Overture Original Soundtrack Vol.2 1. Keep Yourself Alive III (Sol Superiority BGM) 2. Ride on Time (Sin Superiority BGM) 3. Hiruandan* (Izuna Superiority BGM) 4. Diesel Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 i know i heard someone mention before the release that daisuke was open to the idea of downloadable characters down the line but with its abysmal sales (lol 360), i don't think Arc Sys would want to sink more effort & money into this game and would just want to jump right back into profitable 2D fighters or just they could send it over to Aksys ( plz ) and have them localize it here and pretty much guaranteed to get atleast triple its japanese sales Well, it's must probably gonna be the case, the downloadable characters I mean, remember that Guilty Gear and any other game is a business. Companies will want to gather some more money out of it, wether the game is bad or not. (Example: The making of Megaman X6-8) Either that can happen, or knowing how Arc System Works have done before, they might probably do a revision of Overture to include more characters (because in my oppinion, with only 6 playable characters, the game is gonna get boring pretty fast) and some other stuff. Or none of those things can happen, who knows. I'm still gonna get the game, gonna give it a try, I just hope the next GG in production is a 2D fighting game. =/ ----------- To Suzaku: Who's Dead Elf? Valentine? o.o
Suzaku Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 I'd have to assume so. The katakana is デッドエルフ (Deddo Erufu), by the way. I saw a couple people mentioning fighting "Izuna + Dead Elf" online in the 2ch thread, I believe, but haven't seen it anywhere else. Actually, I wouldn't rule out some downloadable stuff either. At least something dinky like alternate costumes (like their old costumes), or extra characters. Maybe even Raven and "That Man"... And maybe a port to a console people in Japan actually own. Make way for Guilty Gear 2: Encore, heh.
Sephi_hatu Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 Well, I just had a crazy idea. What if they ported this to the DS? Make it a top down (think 2d Zeldas) action RTS thing. It would be far easier to send your summons places with a stylus than with an anolog stick. It has the online function, so you could still play online. Plus they could get rid of the completely unneccassary dual movesets.
Suzaku Posted December 18, 2007 Posted December 18, 2007 Pretty sure that wouldn't constitute a "port". They'd pretty well have to rebuild it from scratch with a new graphics engine and all that. Really, I don't see it happening, and with how cluttered the game can get, I don't imagine it'd be that pretty with blocky, pixelated 3D characters on a small screen. PS3 or Wii would probably be more likely, I imagine, or maybe even PS2. Possibly PC, down the line. But with those dismal sales, they're bound to do something about it, nonetheless. I just don't expect it'll be a DS or PSP version.
Fugue Posted December 18, 2007 Posted December 18, 2007 Wii seems unlikely due to lack of internet and significantly lower RAM. DS seems unlikely due to not even having close to enough horsepower unless they basically remake the game. Basically, I'd expect a port to be either toned-down on the PSP, or PS3 or PC.
KD Posted December 18, 2007 Posted December 18, 2007 I'm just waiting on some news of a US release. Drastic story changes aside, the game looks fun. Honestly, it would probably sell better over here.

Dynasty warriors and Kingdom Hearts for the PS2 shatter your RAM argument. Its obvious that the game would have to be graphically toned down, but it should be able to retain all playability and gameplay. Dumbing down the textures, and lowering the poly count on the models/environs + removing any crazy mapping and everything should be good.
Suzaku Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 Are you seriously emplying that the PS2 hardware and DS hardware are even remotely in the same realm? FFIVDS's graphics amount to little more than FFVII graphics with texture maps, and even *that* has some slowdown in the battles, according to all the reports I've been reading. It wouldn't be a simple matter of "dumbing down" the graphics or clicking a button that says, "reduce polygons". They'd almost certainly have to rebuild the game from the ground up. I seriously cannot see Arc Systems possibly going through the difficulty of porting it to the DS. That's roughly equivalent to jumping back three hardware generations. Maybe, maybe PSP, what with it being close to PS2 quality hardware and having great sales since the Slim model came out... But PS3 and PC seem like the easier solutions to buffering their sales.

Well, I was implicating the PS2 and Wii. The DS isnt likely remotely possible as a 3d game. I was imagining it as a 2d one. Think perhaps FF12:RW. It would almost certainly have to be redone. Also, assuming they arent using a 'port friendly engine' (like capcoms Framework or Unreal Engine 3) they would probably have to create a mostly new engine for the PS3 anyways. Seeing that as the case, it would be easier to go PS2+PSP+Wii combo that Ubisoft did with a lot of there titles. And as an aside, I do know a thing or two about programming (wink wink, nudge nudge). Edit: It would also probably be better to use Prime Hunters as a graphical benchmark for the DS. Its a lot more impressive than the FF games, and is far more hardware taxing.
Fugue Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 Dynasty warriors and Kingdom Hearts for the PS2 shatter your RAM argument. No, they don't, at least not without further evidence. GG2:O was coded to run on a system with 512MB RAM. Those were programmed to run on a system with, what, less than 128MB? I'm pretty sure the Wii's below 128MB as well (they measure it differently just to be a pain or something). Unless GG2:O never really uses up more than a fourth or so of it's available memory, porting it would be more than just a matter of downscaling a few textures.

Unless GG2:O never really uses up more than a fourth or so of it's available memory, porting it would be more than just a matter of downscaling a few textures. You do realize that all that extra RAM is for the high def textures right and polygons right? Do you realize how high def these high def textures are? And perhaps the memory they take up? Of course the game would have to be re-coded to an extent to even work on a ps2, but its not like it cant be done. Toning down the graphics and effects would make it possible. And the reason I say KH2 shatters the argument is because of the '1000 heartless battle', in which there are 1000 AIs on screen which you and your 2 companions have to fight. Far more than whats going on in GG2O at any one time. Thinking about it more, multiplayer modes would have to probobly use 2 consoles LAN'd or online. I doubt it could handle the processing for both players at the same time (ps2). So ya, some stuff would have to be tweaked, but it shouldnt really effect the gameplay to much besides maybe having a unit limiter like starcraft. (Just to be fair, the kh2 battle probobly only has 3 or 4 different enemy types, I cant really remember an exact number. That would make a difference in the memory usage, how much I dont know.)
