Okay, nevermind what I said btw about hitching a ride. Seeing as I'll have to leave early I'm not gonna ask anyone to take me there.

I was spoiled since I never had to pay a ridiculous price for a place to stay, but I'll give you a general idea.

The flight will run you anywhere from 1100-1400 round trip depending on the time of year and day you plan to leave and come back.

Hostels are cheap and run anywhere from $20-$80 (in Tokyo), but they probably average around $40 a night for a bed. You'd be better off asking someone else about this cost of the trip since I always stayed in someone's apartment the whole time, so I didn't have to pay much (if anything at all) per night.

For transportation, if you plan on traveling to a couple major cities I would suggest getting a rail-pass. This lets you use the Shinkansen (bullet trains) and slower and smaller commuter trains an unlimited amount of times to (almost) any destination you'd want to go to for an overall set price. The price changes depending on how long you want to stay in Japan for. I stayed for two weeks and it was somewhere around $480 for a rail-pass. You have to order your rail-pass before going to Japan, and you exchange the voucher they send you for the physical pass you will use at the stations.

For example, LK and I bought our rail-passes and a few weeks later we landed in Japan. We went to the office in the airport to exchange them and got on the NEXT train to Tokyo, which was covered by the rail-pass. While we were in Tokyo all we had to do was walk through the manned gate and show them our pass and they let us through. We never had to pay anymore fare to ride the trains that were on the JR-lines. It was very convenient. We wanted to visit Jiyuna in Nagoya, so we got Shinkansen tickets to Nagoya (which were also covered by the pass). Shinkansen tickets aren't very cheap. 1-way fares, depending on where you're going and range anywhere from $80-$150 bucks one-way. So if you wanted to visit Tokyo > Nagoya > Kyoto > Osaka > Hiroshima, or something like that, you're looking at a ton of money. With a rail-pass you're only paying a couple hundred and saving yourself lots of hassle and money in the process.

If you decide to not get a rail pass, the NEXT train from Narita Airport to Tokyo costs about $40 one way. There are a couple other trains that run to Narita as well but the price is comparable (~$25). The trains around Tokyo will cost you a couple bucks each time you get on, and the price changes depending on where you get off, IIRC.

Food prices are about the same as here: less than 10 bucks for fast food and there are convenience stores everywhere. If you wanted to get something better than cheap food you're going to have to pay for it of course, but I found beef bowls, ramen, and curry more than enough. I went out to eat at special places occasionally but I had a Japanese assist, so ordering was never a problem.

Total you're looking anywhere between $2000 - $3000+ depending on how much spending cash you want to bring and how expensive your hostel is.

My advice: save ~3K+ and get a rail-pass, this will give you tons of spending cash and cushion for yourself in-case anything unexpected happens. Stay in Tokyo for a bit but then visit the other majors cities (Kyoto, Naogya, Osaka) as well. Give yourself 2 weeks.

I might go again in the spring, but I'm not too sure yet.

Evereyone is probably going to Summer Jam, and then the next thing people will be going to is Justin's.

There is the Rokrew tournament soon though. I think next Friday at Eight on the Break?

The only thing that happens in Northern Jersey to my knowledge is local battles, which you already know about.

I guess you could try to get casuals with Mcnugget and Achzthen.

There is also team st1ckbug and big 2 at next level if you want to go to Brooklyn which isn't bad if you don't run into traffic.

Also I am down for casuals just send me a pm or whatever, I also have friends in the area that also play.

yes, next friday is Rokrew biweeklies. Hopefully it doesn't lose steam due to Salty Battles picking up P4A on Monday. The fact alone that it's on a monday night is kinda impossible for me to make it to though, so having this biweekly is good.

Also, Ril coming back home. Fuck yes. About time.

Ugh

The drive to dunellen makes it way less hype to me. Especially with stuff like tnc way closer. But the night for the rokrew (is this really a thing?) tournament is definitely better

Hokuto No Ken for the PS2 and Arcades. It's still played a lot to this day in Japan because it's fucking HnK, and it's fucking broken.

It's one of the major kusoge games that many people are referring to when mentioning the term kusoge.
