TsukiBaka Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 Great session guys. Hope you all can come next week too!
Ichipoo Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 Just made it back home safely. Although it was hot, stuffy, and disorganized, it was also a lot of fun. It was cool seeing a number of you guys make it out and supporting P4A and I'm starting to get an idea on what I need to improve on, I just need to go do some research and have countless more matches with you guys, online or offline so that I can get better. And a big shoutouts to B-RAi for inviting us, we should also try to make it to TTF as well. Oh and shoutouts to Roa for going out of his way to purchase a $20 HDMI cable for his setup since he left his at home.
Watermelonz Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 Lots of people were there today. I can't imagine what it would've been like if they didn't have those fans there for air.
shtkn Posted August 14, 2012 Author Posted August 14, 2012 so i can't host this friday, a friend of mine is coming to town so i'll be hanging out with him. as such you guys will need to find a new place for this friday. will the saltmines place be available on friday nights? probably less stuffy if it's just dl ppl.
B-RAi Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 (edited) Thx guys for making it out tonight! For those that dont know or didnt get my name i was playing mitsuru with standard color but artemesia with the black/gold color. We had 3 P4U setups. THAT IS AWESOME. More setups than AE haha :P (ugh. long lines for ae........) and many marvel setups........ (i dont like marvel. that game is to dishonest for me) . I saw ALOT of new faces today which is very good. The TTF crew (south san diego community for capcom games, and p4u if it picks up), 8WR (soul calibur crew of sd), Dustloop, and a bunch of other people ive never seen before made it out to support the opening night of the san diego saltmines! I personally like the venue. its a nice change from peoples houses (not that thats a problem). And theres alot of room out in the bakery to chill and take a break. I dont like the parking though. However I do have some concerns if this venue will actually hold up or not (as in consistent attendance). And ill list a couple reasons why. -The organization I was actually there fairly early at about 5:15ish to check out the area. It seemed that the crew running the the setting up the locations of the tables tables and chairs kind of just went in there and put things where they felt like it. The tables with the outlets to the side of room where a nice a idea but it was rather difficult to move in the backbecause the tables placed in the middle and the back and little to no walking room. So if you wanted to play whatever was there then getting there would be tough. I also noticed alot of unused space to the right side of the room (when walking in through the doors). Which honestly could have been utilized more effectively. Perhaps to widen the walkways in between the setups and what not. -Reliance on people bring their own setups. It isnt necessarily a bad thing at all. But for a public venue it could be. It would mean that waiting in line to play games might be longer if the attendance drops. The crew themselves only really had 1 dedicated setup for running their tournaments and the rest were brought out by the players. Monitors would be more than okay. Like at TTF theres alot of monitors laying around with chairs and its a whole lot easier for people to bring just their consoles. Lots of people feel inclined to bring out their consoles but not many people own a monitor that can be easily carried out. It's like this at frubble as well. They have 2 donated ps3 setups and a bunch of asus monitors in the store room. Same with Comic Odyssey on saturday night fights, they have 1 console and 3 monitors already ready to be used at the location. -Tournament organization. They only ran a marvel tourney and not street fighter aswell so i didnt answer. but i talked to a few of my friends and the ttf crew about what was going wrong. They made the matches a 3 out of 5 set made the tourney long for no reason. They could not get the stream equipment to work properly and only streamed off a PVR (it basically records whats on the monitor and archives it on the laptop. then they would stream the feed running from the monitor to the laptop to the internet. Its not ideal because there is a huge lag time). They also didnt know how to run the stream equipment properly so i suppose matches were held or delayed and what not til they found a fix. The tiered system they are using to make the brackets simply just wont cut it (more info about it is at the SRK page). It basically pays the top 3 of an adv, int, and beg tier. Its stupid because theres not enough money going in to pay out the people with equal increments (like, 1st place in all 3 tiers in get equal pay or w/e). And people could just sand bag as well to stay in a lower tier. Whos to say this system really judges how good someone is? It doesn't AT ALL. And theres alot of players that are simply the best players not not necessarily when it comes to a tournament environment. Most importantly though its not fair to someone whos obviously invested more hardwork and time into the game than someone who didn't. Their excuses for it is as quoted on srk ,"whats the point if dios x wins marvel all the time). First off. He does'nt. Theres alot of good players that can beat him and DO in tournament. They just arent nationally known or anything. and 2nd but most important!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! isnt the point in playing in tournaments is to play people, get hungry/stay hungry, and get better all at the same time?! to win? to aspire to become stronger? whats the point of hosting tournaments if their given off mentality for it is to hinder what i just mentioned in the last sentence. If they really wanted to encourage people more why not just do a top 6 or top 8 payout? Itll enourage newer players to try and get better and at least have some goal to shoot for. -The TTF crew impressions. (not all of them of course. but i suppose the general opinion right now) We dont know for sure if we will see continued support from them. They dont like the disorganization from the crew at all. And the tournament system mentioned above. If the crew hosting the SD saltmines is willing to cooperate and take input from the TTF crew then maybe they will keep showing up. It would be a shame because its a big community and support from anyone and everywhere in the FGC is a plus. All in all they will give it a chance. but if things are running as they are now i would expect to see dropped attendance from them and what not. Overall though i did have an enjoyable experience. what i mentioned above are my opinions of if attendance drops at this new fighting game venue and why. some people kind of forget that the venue fee is FREE. yeah they dont know how to run it properly yet but would it hurt to help some lending hands? Our SD fight scene should be able to grow provided that the support is there. why shood LA and norcal be the only ones with 100 man weekly brackets? why not sd too? shoutouts to ALL of you guys for coming out! i know some of you might have not been able to make it but the support from you guys just by simply showing up shows. it shows that you care. so thank you and i look forward to playing some more P4U with you guys! P4U is so much fun! -B-RAi sry if this post is a bit long and i dont expect people to read the whole thing really. but if you did great! its jus that i really care about our FGC as whole. and we should all grow together as a whole to get more people to start coming out and what not. i feel that this information shoulkd be out there to discuss if people would like to. that is all~ Edited August 14, 2012 by B-RAi
B-RAi Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 so i can't host this friday, a friend of mine is coming to town so i'll be hanging out with him. as such you guys will need to find a new place for this friday. will the saltmines place be available on friday nights? probably less stuffy if it's just dl ppl. i think they are doing the meetings once a week on mondays :/. i dont think its necessarily open for us to use to our convenience as was frubble was. there is a venue fee but the saltmines crew paid it off out of their own pockets. but even so frubble had different things going on each day too right? like box on tuesdays, dustloop on fridays, and open mic night on thursdays and so on. i guess it doesnt hurt to ask though :]
TsukiBaka Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 I agree with what you say, but its Mahvel. It has always been like that, especially within smaller communities. They won't go into tournies that cost money, knowing they wont win at all. Its a game where only money is involved now. Most of the FGC aside from Anime Fighters, play for the money as far as I know (I guess you can kinda exclude SCV? Although i dont know about 3d Fighters). As for the Organization, its first day, as it opened, and they maybe didnt know that there was going to be THAT MANY people. And they may need help by having people's opinions given to them like you did but instead of DL Forums, directly to them. If people addressed it, Im sure they'll be doing best out of 3, except for Losers and winners finals. Reliance on setups is the same no matter where you go. Frubble was lucky that they had donations also, its quite difficult imo to gain them. Dustloop at the very least, have the same people that are pretty much dedicated to bringing their setup. Roa, Shtkn, and Wallice especially (if they do come) Ichipoo can as well but no monitor, I can provide it; so long as he notifies me beforehand. Shoutouts to these guys for being so awesome!! At the very least, I'm happy that there is even a venue we can go to. Saltmines is paying it out of their pockets so, honestly, I'd rather just let them do their own thing. If our community/yours want to give them some advice etc, so its more to your liking, I think you should go for it.
B-RAi Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 (edited) yep i agree. reliance on setups is the same anywhere. but my worry is that if the attendance drops then the setups drops. and with less setups maybe more people will be less inclined to show up. its happened before. and yeah thats thing with some tournaments now. whatever happened to staying hungry? losing and wanting to get better to body the guys that basically took your money in tourney? the mentality is still very much like that at TTF. Playing to get stronger, better, bodying that guy that beat you in tourney, and then maybe winning some cash in the end. But most of all having fun. but i suppose as long as people are continuously playing and showing that be fine too. They'll get it eventually. they are paying the venue fee out of their pockets which is beary fanastic! i just dont want to see their efforts go to waste is all if people end up dont showing up in the end :c. the great news is the saltmines crew is very open to input from these communities, TTF, DL, dreamcancel, 8WR and etc. Lets hope that we can cooperate with them to make this weekly session grow as a whole. i just want people to actually show up. droughts in the SDFGC has happened before and its quite depressing actually....... like this one time the box arena tuesday casuals went from a full house down to 8 people until they decided to stream weekly and what not. And its happened at TTF too. i know the dreamcancel community and 8wr are having a hard time atm which sucks :c welp. lets makes sure that doesn't happen again ;] Edited August 14, 2012 by B-RAi
DonnieRye Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 My only problem with not making it out to places too far away is that my car is missing its entire back windshield and a tail light is out. So I try to bum rides off people until I can afford to get it fixed. Also, there is a LAN center in convoy called LAN Diego. That could be a potential place for us but I haven't really checked it out myself and I havent contacted their owners. Maybe someone can check that place out?

And anybody want to play online tonight? I need to keep losing playing to get better fundamentals. Edited August 15, 2012 by Ichipoo
unprotectedS3X Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 (edited) thats a cool write up brai but who did you talk to about the ttf crew point of view? not to sound like a dick to the "crew" but thats not my opinion on the salt mines and i dont want them to think of me talking down to them or having anyone else from ttf think so, but a lot of what was said was true i think the venue is great and it was there first event so of course there will be mistakes and not just me but other organizers or people familiar with the scene could but there input the tourney format has to go and as many set ups they had they could of had an ae tourney on the side i mean i run 2-3 tourneys at once its not hard and i do that by myself saltmines has a team of people working for him right so they can organize and have a staff running a tourney i will be there next monday and for the record if you had an ae tourney there might of been a bigger turn out for it that day than marvel lot more ae heads than marvel that monday Edited August 15, 2012 by unprotectedS3X
TsukiBaka Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 Fuck I cant sleep. Shoutouts to Ichipoo for this: http://imgur.com/a/XG8O3 You even got my Labrys going for the Kill #Kappa
shtkn Posted August 15, 2012 Author Posted August 15, 2012 i look so bored in my photo haha. for me, it was tuesday monday
MasterDana Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 Been a bit out of the loop lately: what meet-ups are we making/attending?
Ichipoo Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 (edited) Well currently we know that shtkn can't host this Friday and we're not sure if Roa can host again this Friday, although most likely no since he said he can't host every week which is understandable. Tomorrow, I'm going to be looking into this place that Donnie mentioned called LAN Diego and see if we can simply show up there and play some P4A. And I might drive up to Temecula next Saturday around noon to play some P4A at bellreisa's house assuming nothing comes up. Anybody down? Edited August 16, 2012 by Ichipoo
TsukiBaka Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 If I'm not busy I am so down Ichi. Although I'd have to ask if its alright if you would pick me up ._.
Agni Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 Well, the chance of me getting to meet up with you guys is incredibly thin, but nonetheless, I'm in San Diego right now to meet my uncle. Maybe I'll see you guys or something, I dunno. I'm gonna be here for like...5 days, I guess?
MasterDana Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 Ha, damn. I can't make next Friday, so I was really hoping to get a session in before class. I'll keep my eyes open for events I can attend in the meantime!
Jigoku_Roa Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 It's mostly unlikely I can host since I have to work late Friday.
Ichipoo Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 Guess this means we'll take a break this Friday? Couldn't get a hold of LAN Diego, I even posted on their Facebook page but still, no reply.
Jigoku_Roa Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 Well I can host Friday, but I'm going to be late to host it around 8 hopefully. Same as before if you don't know where I live, PM me.
Spidey Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 I can also sub host for Kevin should people want to come. I have a couple friends coming over anyways who are learning the game. I also live with some very good gg players who are fairly proficient in Labyrs and Chie already. I live in Oceanside so it might be a bit out of the way. Let me know if there is any interest and I will post address and phone numbers etc.
Watermelonz Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 I'll skip on this week's meetup, I have midterms for my summer classes next week.
