@Eb: Not to nitpick, but... #4's wrong, lol.

It's "Money is the root of all evil". So women = evil.

Money fucks up everything.

EVERYTHING.

You know, every problem in the world, yeah, it's because of that.

I very much disagree.

Without boasting, I doubt anyone in this thread has studied economics/finance as much as I have, and I can only say that money solves a lot more problems than it creates.

The real root of the problem is twofold:

1) The structure of Capitalism is financial competition (or gambling, for short).

2) People.

Money alone is just a tool. It's how it's used that creates the problems. But I can assure you that the invention of (paper) money was a huge driver in the exponential growth of civilization as we've seen it... Gov'ts everywhere simply don't understand its fundamental nature and massively mismanage it, etc.

Anyway... *cough* ... [/Finance geek rant] :P

@sinder, l agree with everything you said, it's spot on with my thoughts on advice. new players are spoiled with this era of gaming. most games nowadays really lack the 'umph' and the challenge that older games provid(ed). it's all about unlimited lives, ez mode learning curves, and online. not to say that all new games are so ridiculously easy, but they definitely degraded the 'hard work' factor overall which leaves gamers with a mindset of every game needing to be pick-up-and-play.

in terms of netplay, no it shouldnt be taken as serious as offline but lets not rule out that netplay can be really good for communicating just as well as offline, albeit in a more detatched sense.

Bah this guy has social issues in his life that ooze through when he plays competitive games, that's all. He also has a huge inferiority complex by claiming that anyone who gets to high level play are born with that talent... way to discredit months/years of dedication. We don't need players with this kind of negative, thick headed mentality in our scene.

Whenever I beat someone in a game, I'll try to explain what I did and the options to get out of it because that's exactly how I learned to play myself : get beat down by more experienced players and have them explain to me what works, what doesn't and why xD

Also, kaeru, cinder and TD's posts are all 100% truth and awesome reads.

Sharing knowledge is always a good thing no matter what, I used to refuse to get help from others and only think about myself back when I just had started and this would make me stay stuck and stay at the same level. Heck, I may not be a top player but I sure do know my character very well and now that she has fallen in a dark side I've devoted myself more than ever to aquire more knowledge and share it with everybody and that alone makes me feel proud, if I can make someone else a shinning star it'll be my pleasure to do so. All that to say that I am not the only one like that and that his argument towards top players not being helpful and whatnot is completely false, he just simply never tried to ask for it or find his way in.

i want to report you sophist

you made me learn unwillingly

Lol, you can rest your fingers as I really didn't say much at all...

------

As for the learning process, I think it's good that we share info, but at the end of the day the individual must develop his own style and methods to beat the competition. These are the non-mechanical aspects of FG play that are untransferable and provide the necessary competitive edge to consistently win time and again.

So I'll play Devil's Advocate for a moment and say that as much help as you give someone to improve themselves it doesn't mean they'll ever find their groove. That's the frustrating aspect of competition, and also the reason why so many quit early. :(

economics and stuff

yooo, you really don't want to get me started on this here

although we really ought to sit down sometime and have an open discussion about this, as I think we could have a really good debate on the topic

Sure thing, hoss.

I'd rather have a written convo, though, if that's ok with you. It's simply a better medium to collect thoughts, find and present evidence, facts, etc.

For now, I'll just say I see where you're coming from in that companies/the rich/gov'ts/etc. fuck people over on a daily basis. Capitalism also has one big limitation to it. But overall, despite this, the financial system has been more beneficial than it has done harm.

His pointer finger circled my puckered love cave. “Are you ready for this?” he mewled, smirking at me like a mother hamster about to eat her three-legged young.

Since most were gone when I talked about this at the meetup, I'll post it here. I'm inviting you guys over Saturday the 28th, we can have a BBQ, drink, walk around in a calm, dangerless neighbourhood, probably even get at downtown TR, which is right next to the fleuve st-laurent for a nice breeze, etc. Manifestez votre intérêt, groupe!
