Mr. Kimura Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 Even I play Guilty Gear at times. You should get with it Lumin.
The Katz Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 Even I play Guilty Gear at times. You should get with it Lumin. You have taste (most of the time), though.
Prototype909 Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 Ever play Tsukihime? ;>.> The GG statement basically was you admitting that you have witnessed little-to-none of any character's story. You are disappoint. That, or your tastes are ridiculously specific, even more so than Luna. At least Luna is able to recognize what a real man is occasionally. Lumin is too fraaaaaaay to play Tsukihime
LuminAbyss Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 I haven't played it, but Axis practically explained things for me. I'm a sucker for girls who have had horrible pasts but then act like thaaaat D: I didn't know she was psychotic till later, but after I learned that, it was too late. Well, I admit I don't know the story well for GG, but I don't know, none of them appealed to me greatly. (Except Slayer) I bet if I did get into the story more, I'd be able to pick a character then. But I barely have access to the game as it is, so yeah. Real talk, when I first got BlazBlue, I was stuck between maining Jin or Bang. But then I played story mode and LOVED Ragna's story (And Bang's story made me lol), so I ended up choosing them to play as. My tastes are probably ridiculously specific xD (Also, in Naruto fighting games, I always picked Gai. For the same reasons I pick Bang)
LunaKage Posted March 9, 2011 Author Posted March 9, 2011 pwnt. I don't know what's worse: Being a netplaying scrub or getting "Fixed" by a netplaying scrub :3
Mr. Kimura Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 If you like fucked up girls, play Baiken like me.
LuminAbyss Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 If you like fucked up girls, play Baiken like me. Then we can have Baiken mirrors y/y?

Kohaku's a hater that got salty at the wrong people for being raped as a loli. It's also strange how you find that to be an appealing trait... I don't mind broken-bird characters, but there's such a thing as crossing the line. She still needs love, I guess, but doesn't do anything to deserve it besides existing. I don't fully see the point of picking a character based on their personality, or at least having it as a main driving force when making the decision. You'll most likely be watching their attacks and movements more than listening to them talk to their opponent. Game-play/fighting style seems mildly important to people as well, though I doubt you're good enough to be fitting into a preferred groove yet ;P For example on poor personality: Jin's a dick, but I still play him despite that. I can say "It's the police! FREEZE!!!" and reset people all day long while doing so.
The Katz Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 AXIS. STOP FAILING AT THE RANCE GAME. FULL CAPS FOR EFFECT.
LuminAbyss Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 -shrug- It's just how I am bro :/ Sorry D: ALSO: The reason Jin is a dick is what keeps me from playing as him, cause I actually like his style, but I don't like him ;w;

Hell even LK says that Litchi is his Waifu, srs.
LuminAbyss Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 well my mentality, I need to like the character to represent the character. Hell even LK says that Litchi is his Waifu, srs. Ya gotta have love for your character, to stick with them through different versions and buffs and nerfs and stuff |3 That's why in franchises I tend to play the same character every game Terry Bogard

Again: their personality is rarely brought up outside of story, so it shouldn't stop you from playing a character you like style-wise and possibly aesthetically.

Since we're all discussing our experience with fighters and such... When I first played BlazBlue, it was over at a friend's house, and I was mashing random, and picked Noel when one of the better players picked Jin or Arakune. Had enough fun that day to keep the hype going until Christmas. Later found out Noel's personality, after playing through her story mode... just couldn't play her anymore. The personality, goals, and values of a character affects how much I want to play them. If I don't like my character, it's like "Why am I even playing this character?". Though I don't particularly care for A.B.A either, so it can be overridden, I guess.

However, I feel that this case isn't very common :x Personally, I'd probably stray away from her a bit after first experience due to how pathetic she can be. She's cute in a way, but not enough for me. Earlier self-correction: I'm not saying that personality isn't an important factor, I just don't see it as being as important as looks or style. /shrug/ Like you said: personality can be overridden if you like the rest of the character enough.
Prototype909 Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 Noel would be tolerable if it wasn't for her personality always being hopelessly helpless, mindlessly retarded, or incurably depressed. I prefer my women competent.

Arguably, fighting style should be the most important, but if you're attached to your character like Luna is, you'll put more effort in, and possibly get better faster than those who might not care for their character. But yeah, I think you highlighted the main three (personality, looks, fighting style) that affect most people's main choices.
LuminAbyss Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 Del, pleaaaase get in avatar. It's starting to weird me out D:

The player would have less incentive to play another character, which would split their attention from their main, but I think that's as far as it goes when it comes to one's devotion to learning a character being affected by loyalty/attachment. I don't know anyone besides possibly Luna that ever had the "I love this character, so I'mma learn it no matter what, and try hard at doing so!" moment, at least publicly.
